Vitamin C has some effects on the etiology of periodontal disease, however, it is still controver- sial. There are some studies demonstrated that high level of vitamin C was deposited in the high potential tissues. But there is almost no report about the gingival tissue which is expected to have high need of this vitamin. Therefore, the ascorbate concentration of 65 gingival biopsies and 27 plasma samples from 37 periodontal patients was assayed. Twenty five of nutritional records were also reviewed. The mean gingival ascorbate concentration was 10.32 ± 3.70 mg % which was approximately eight folds higher than plasma …

Diphenhydramine hydrochloride (DPH) is an antihistamine which possesses local anesthetic properties. The efficacy of DPH was tested as a local anesthetic for tooth extraction in allergic patients. The onset, duration and depth of anesthesia of DPH were less efficious than that of lidocaine. Out of 33 cases of tooth extraction using DPH, 60.6% produced profound, 27.3% satisfactory and only 12.1% produced unsatisfactory anesthesia. There was no statistically significant difference in blood pressure and heart rate before and after injection of DPH. Neither severe adverse reactions nor allergic reactions could be found in this study. The results indicated that the use …

Job Satisfaction Among Three Different Dental Hygiene Occupational Settings, Ruth Halstead Hull
Dental Hygiene Theses & Dissertations
A survey was conducted to determine differences in job satisfaction which may exist among dental hygienists employed in private practice positions, public health positions, and dental hygiene education positions. A modified version of the questionnaire developed by the Washington State Dental Auxiliaries Project was mailed to all public health dental hygienists, all dental hygiene educators, and a randomized sample containing ten percent of private practice employed dental hygienists residing in North Carolina for a total of 334 participants. From a 76 percent response rate, results indicated that dental hygiene educators feel more satisfied overall than private practice dental hygienists and …

Survey Of Attitudes Of Licensed Dental Hygienists Toward Continuing Education In A State With Mandatory Continuing Education Versus A State Without Mandatory Continuing Education, Katharine Reeves Behroozi
Dental Hygiene Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this research was to compare attitudes of licensed dental hygienists toward continuing education (CE) in two states: Kentucky, a state with mandatory continuing education (MCE) as a requirement for dental hygiene re-licensure and Virginia, a state without MCE for dental hygiene re-licensure. A self-designed, 28-item instrument, Continuing Education Attitudinal Questionnaire, was mailed to a stratified and random sample of 400 licensed dental hygienists in Kentucky and Virginia. Employing the chi-square test for independence, analysis of results revealed that Kentucky participants responded more affirmatively than Virginia participants to attitudinal statements regarding CE, particularly in areas of MCE, benefits …

A Study Of Deep Overbite Correction With Lingual Orthodontics, Randall K. Bennett
A Study Of Deep Overbite Correction With Lingual Orthodontics, Randall K. Bennett
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The purpose of the present study was to cephalometrically evaluate the bite plane effect associated with deep overbite correction in cases treated exclusively with the Ormco-Kurz™ lingual orthodontic appliance, and to evaluate whether differences existed between dolichofacial and brachyfacial facial types. Variables involved in the bite plane effect; incisor intrusion and proclination, as well as molar extrusion and mandibular rotation were measured. Fifty-nine cases were evaluated by means of computer digitized tracings of pretreatment and posttreatment lateral cephalograms. Mandibular incisor proclination of 4.5 degrees, mandibular incisor intrusion of 2.3 mm, lower anterior facial height opening of 1.3 mm and maxillary …
