Background : There is no previous report regarding normal lumbar interspinous distance in Thai subjects. The measurement of the lumbar interspinous distance is made based on the magnetic resonance imaging images. Os odontoideum is a small round or oval corticated ossicle with a smooth cortical border and no body union to the body of the axis. Posttraumatic injury of the cervical spine is one of the etiologies. We reported a 28-year-old man patient with os odontoideum presented with a trivial hyperflexion cervical trauma. He developed neurogenic shock and central cord syndrome. This case supports the theory that previous trauma is the etiology of the abnormality. Surgical management alleviated his symptom. Occipitocervical fusion with C1 laminectomy was successfully achieved in this case. Odontoid nonunion is a potentially a serious situation. Patients can …

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาประสิทธิภาพของสารต้านอนุมูลอิสระต่อความแข็งแรงพันธะของสารยึดติดระบบเซลฟ์เอทซ์ 2 ขั้นตอน (เคลียร์ฟิล เอสอี บอนด์) กับเนื้อฟันบริเวณผนังโพรงเนื้อเยื่อในภายหลังการฟอกสีด้วยไฮโดรเจน เพอร์ออกไซด์ความเข้มข้นสูง (โอพัลเลสเซนส์ บูชท์) วัสดุและวิธีการ ใช้ฟันกรามน้อยบนสภาพสมบูรณ์ ไม่มีรอยโรค และไม่เคยได้รับการบูรณะใด ๆ มาก่อน โดยตัด รากฟันออกและแบ่งครึ่งส่วนตัวฟันในแนวด้านแก้ม-ด้านลิ้น ใช้หัวกรอกากเพชรทรงสอบกรอผนังโพรงเนื้อเยื่อใน เพื่อลอกเลียนขั้นตอนการเปิดทางเข้าสู่โพรงเนื้อเยื่อในในการรักษาคลองราก จากนั้นแบ่งชิ้นฟันทั้งหมดเป็น 4 กลุ่ม ทดลองได้แก่ (1) กลุ่มควบคุมซึ่งไม่ทําการฟอกสี (2) กลุ่มที่ทําการฟอกสีด้วยโอพัลเลสเซนส์ บูชท์ (3) กลุ่มที่ใช้ สารละลายโซเดียมแอสคอร์เบทภายหลังการฟอกสีฟัน และ (4) กลุ่มที่ใช้สารละลายคะตะเลสภายหลังการฟอกสีฟัน บูรณะวัสดุเรซินคอมโพสิตบนผิวเนื้อฟันด้วยสารยึดติดผลิตภัณฑ์เคลียร์ฟิล เอสอี บอนด์ เก็บชิ้นงานไว้ภายใต้ ความชื้นสัมพัทธ์ร้อยละ 100 ที่อุณหภูมิ 37 องศาเซลเซียส เป็นเวลา 24 ชั่วโมง ก่อนนํามาทดสอบความแข็งแรง พันธะเฉือนระดับจุลภาคของสารยึดติดกับเนื้อฟัน ตรวจสอบลักษณะพื้นผิวของชิ้นงานภายหลังการแตกหักด้วยกล้องถ่ายภาพในช่องปากร่วมกับโปรแกรมแสดงภาพผ่านระบบคอมพิวเตอร์ รวมทั้งตรวจสอบลักษณะผิวเนื้อฟันของกลุ่มทดลองต่าง ๆ ภายใต้กล้องจุลทรรศน์อิเล็กตรอนชนิดส่องกราด ผลการศึกษา จากการวิเคราะห์ทางสถิติพบว่ากลุ่มที่ไม่ได้ทําการฟอกสีมีค่าความแข็งแรงพันธะเฉือนกับเนื้อฟัน สูงที่สุด (p < 0.001) รองลงมาเป็นกลุ่มที่ใช้สารละลายโซเดียมแอสคอร์เบท และกลุ่มที่ใช้สารละลายคะตะเลส ภายหลังการฟอกสีฟัน (p < 0.001 และ p < 0.007 ตามลําดับ) ส่วนกลุ่มที่ทําการฟอกสีฟันและบูรณะด้วยเรซิน คอมโพสิตทันที มีค่าเฉลี่ยความแข็งแรงพันธะเฉือนน้อยกว่ากลุ่มทดลองอื่น ๆ อย่างมีนัยสําคัญ (p < 0.0035) ซึ่งส่วนใหญ่พบการแตกหักของชิ้นงานภายในชั้นสารยึดติดหรือเรซินคอมโพสิต นอกจากนี้ในกลุ่มทดลองดังกล่าว ยังพบการหลุดของเรซินคอมโพสิตจากชิ้นงานก่อนการทดสอบถึงร้อยละ 40 การตรวจสอบด้วยกล้องจุลทรรศน์อิเล็กตรอนชนิดส่องกราดพบว่าชั้นสเมียร์และสเมียร์พลัคของทุกกลุ่มทดลองที่ผ่านการปรับสภาพด้วยไพรเมอร์ ของสารยึดติดผลิตภัณฑ์เคลียร์ฟิล เอสอี บอนด์นั้นถูกละลายออกไปเป็นส่วนใหญ่ รวมทั้งพบการเผยของเส้นใย คอลลาเจนได้อย่างชัดเจน สรุป สารละลายโซเดียมแอสคอร์เบทและสารละลายคะตะเลสสามารถเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพการยึดของสารยึดติด ผลิตภัณฑ์เคลียร์ฟิล เอสอี บอนด์กับเนื้อฟันที่ผนังโพรงเนื้อเยื่อในภายหลังการฟอกสีด้วยโอพัลเลสเซนส์ บูชท์ได้ แต่ไม่เท่ากับกรณีเนื้อฟันที่ไม่ได้ทําการฟอกสี โดยสารละลายโซเดียมแอสคอร์เบทให้ผลที่ดีกว่าสารละลายคะตะเลสอย่างมีนัยสําคัญ (ว ทันต จุฬาฯ 2555;35:79-92)

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อเปรียบเทียบการสึกและความหยาบผิวของเรซินคอมโพสิต 4 ชนิด หลังการแปรงด้วยยาสีฟัน เพื่อฟันขาว 4 ผลิตภัณฑ์ วัสดุและวิธีการ เตรียมชิ้นตัวอย่างเรซินคอมโพสิตชนิดนาโนฟิลล์ (ฟิลเทคซี 350 เอกซ์ที) นาโนไฮบริด (เฮอร์คู ไลท์อัลตรา) ไมโครฟิลล์ (ดูราฟิลวีเอส) และไมโครไฮบริด (ฟิลเทคซี 250) ชนิดละ 64 ชิ้น จากแบบหล่อโลหะ แบ่ง ชิ้นตัวอย่างเรซินคอมโพสิตแต่ละชนิดออกเป็น 4 กลุ่ม กลุ่มละ 16 ชิ้น ตามชนิดของยาสีฟันเพื่อฟันขาว 4 ผลิตภัณฑ์ ได้แก่ สปาร์คเคิลไวท์ ฟลูโอคารีลเฮลท์ตี้ไวท์เทนนิ่ง คอลเกตแอดวานส์ไวท์เทนนิ่ง และเซ็นโซดายน์ไวท์เทนนิ่งวัดปริมาตรและความหยาบผิวโดยใช้เครื่องโปรไฟโลมิเตอร์ก่อนและหลังการแปรงด้วยเครื่องแปรงอัตโนมัติ เมื่อใช้ แรงในการแปรง 300 กรัม ความเร็ว 90 รอบต่อนาที จํานวน 20,000 รอบ วิเคราะห์ผลการทดลองที่ได้ด้วยสถิติ ความแปรปรวนแบบสองทาง และสถิติแทมเฮนที่ระดับนัยสําคัญ 0.05 ผลการศึกษา หลังการแปรงด้วยยาสีฟันเพื่อฟันขาวทุกผลิตภัณฑ์พบว่าดูราฟิลวีเอสเกิดการสึกและความหยาบ ผิวต่างจากเฮอร์คูไลท์อัลตรา ฟิลเทคซี 350 เอกซ์ที และฟิลเทคซี 250 อย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ (p < 0.05) เซ็นโซดายน์ไวท์เทนนิ่งทําให้เรซินคอมโพสิตทั้ง 4 ชนิด เกิดการสึกมากกว่าสปาร์คเคิลไวท์ คอลเกตแอดวานส์ไวท์- เทนนิ่ง และฟลูโอคารีลเฮลท์ตี้ไวท์เทนนิ่ง เซ็นโซดายน์ไวท์เทนนิ่ง สปาร์คเคิลไวท์ และคอลเกตแอดวานส์ไวท์เทนนิ่งทําให้เรซินคอมโพสิตเกิดความหยาบผิวมากกว่าฟลูโอคารีลเฮลท์ตี้ไวท์เทนนิ่ง สรุป ดูราฟิลวีเอสเกิดการสึกและความหยาบผิวมากที่สุดหลังแปรงด้วยยาสีฟันเพื่อฟันขาวทุกผลิตภัณฑ์เซ็นโซดายน์ ไวท์เทนนิ่ง สปาร์คเคิลไวท์ และคอลเกตแอดวานส์ไวท์เทนนิ่ง ทําให้เรซินคอมโพสิตส่วนใหญ่เกิดการสึกและ ความหยาบผิวมากกว่าฟลูโอคารีลเฮลท์ตี้ไวท์เทนนิ่ง (ว ทันต จุฬาฯ 2555;35:105-18)

Objective This case report showed the alternative management of anterior spacing by the use of orthodontic elastomeric ligatures to redistribute the spaces at the maxillary anterior teeth of one patient and followed by closing all the spaces between teeth with composite resin restoration. Objective To present techniques to mask discolored teeth before porcelain veneer cementation using resin-based color modifier as a subopaque layer in severely tetracycline-stained teeth. Materials and methods A female patient had severely tetracycline-stained teeth on both upper and lower anterior teeth, and space between teeth #11 and #21. Her oral hygiene was good. Spacing in the esthetic area results in an unconfident smile. To solve this problem, many alternative treatments can be used with multidisciplinary knowledge: for example, orthodontic treatment and restorative treatment. The treatment plan should be performed under conservative consideration, while the esthetic outcome should persist in the long term. Tourette’s Syndrome (TS) is a neuropsychiatric disorder, with onset in children. It is characterized by multiple motor and phonic tics. The pathophysiology of TS is not well understood. Previous studies suggested the etiology involving the abnormal dopaminergic neurotransmission, abnormalities in basal ganglia-related circuits and genetics in TS. In 2010, Ercan-Sencicek G, et al has identified a rare functional mutation in the Histidine Decarboxylase (HDC) gene in the family with high density of TS. Streptococcal infection is a major problem in intensive tilapia farming. This study was conducted to investigate the antimicrobial activity of mucilage, distilled water- and 70% methanol-crude extract from Butea superba Roxb. against Streptococcal bacteria. The antimicrobial activity using disc diffusion assay showed that B. superba Roxb. had a broad antimicrobial range against twelve isolates of streptococcal bacteria: Streptococcus iniae (n=2) and Streptococcus agalactiae (n=10). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the 70% methanol-crude extract varied between 128 and 512 µg/ml depending on the tested streptococcal strains. The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
This study investigated the causes of relinquishing the dogs adopted from animal shelters. The subjects were the adopters of public animal shelters in Taiwan in 2003~2005. Random sampling was conducted upon 10% of the population. This study collected data by telephone survey, and 1,185 calls were made, with 626 valid samples. According to this investigation, when being adopted, most of the animals were below one year old (71.7%; 449/626); among 626 dogs investigated, 229 were relinquished (36.6%; 229/626). In January 2010, we examined the prevalence of Salmonella in the rectal swab of 66 swine on 8 farms and in 25 pork products at 6 meat retailers of Sa Kaew province. Salmonella was isolated from 3%(2/66) of swine rectal swab samples and 96%(24/25) of pork samples. In rectal swab samples, both S. Weltevreden and S. Dumfries were isolated from one sample, and S. The objective of this study is to establish a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) laboratory for detection of multidrug resistance1 (MDR1) mutation in Thailand. Blood samples were collected from 67 dogs, namely 16 Collies, 9 Shetland Sheepdogs, 5 Border Collies, 6 Shih tzus, 13 German Shepherds and 18 mixed breeds. Genomic DNA was extracted and PCR was performed to amplify 341 and 577 bp fragments to detect homozygous wild-type (+/+) and homozygous mutant (-/-), respectively. Time of the first cleavage has been used as an indicator to determine developmental rate and quality of embryos in many species. The aim of this study was to examine effect of time of the first cleavage on cat embryo development and blastocyst quality. After in vitro fertilization, embryos were observed twice at 27 and 42 hours. In this study the reproductive and dairy performances of swamp buffaloes under intensive farm conditions were evaluated. The data of reproduction and milk production were collected from forty-eight swamp buffaloes during the period of 2001 to 2010. The reproductive and dairy performances were analyzed as mean±SD of each index. The age at first calving was 47.1±8 months and the gestation period was 321.4±11.3 days. The service per conception was 3.5±2.5, with insemination by both natural and artificial mating. The calving interval and the days open were 486.2±75.02 and 166.2±69.7 days (n=99), respectively. The objective of the present investigation was to ascertain the prevalence of antibiotic resistance amongst E. coli strains obtained from broiler chicken in two different poultry farms against antibiotics that have a limited or no use in poultry and to advocate a probable mechanism of antibiotic resistance transfer between strains. A high resistance rate was seen against azteronam (100%), streptomycin (88-92%) followed by amoxicillin (68-76%), ceftrioxone (60-68%) and cefepime (56-68%). However reasonably lower levels of resistance were seen towards coamoxiclave (40%), ciprofloxacin (24-28%), and ofloxacin (36-40%). Meropenem emerged as least resistant (16-28%) antimicrobial agent. Three female mongrel dogs were cytologically diagnosed as transmissible venereal tumor (TVT) and had clinically developed resistance to vincristine treatment. One dog was treated with four treatments of 10,000 IU/m2 body surface area of L-asparaginase combined with 0.025 mg/kg body weight of vincristine sulfate every two weeks while this combination was administered to the others once a week for four weeks and only vincristine sulfate once a week for four treatments. Both treatments resulted in a complete remission. Side effects such as gastrointestinal upset, diarrhea, depression, and decrease in appetite were observed in the dogs administered with the later protocol. …

This study was designed to investigate the pathogenesis of infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), a new variantgenotype and QX-like IBV, isolated in Thailand. Sixty, 28-day-old, female broiler chickens were divided into 3 groupsof 20 chickens each (groups 1-3) and sixty, 1-day-old, female broiler chickens were divided into 3 groups of 20chickens each (groups 4-6). The seroprevalence of Leptospira interrogans serovars in cattle was determined by analyzing 385 serum samples from 8 Rural Development Districts (RDD), in Tamaulipas, Mexico. A microscopic agglutination test (MAT) including 9 serovars of L. interrogans as antigens was used. Serum samples were considered positive when 50% or more of agglutination in a dilution of ≥ l:100 was observed. A total of 70.4% animals were reported positive for one or more serovars. The most frequent antibodies reported were those against serovars tarassovi (53.25%) hardjo (23.64%) and canicola (15.32%), whilst serovar bataviae (0.52%) was found at lower frequency.
