The Peer Mentorship Program was developed during a pandemic to meet the ever-growing needs of the first-year students at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM). While all transitions into graduate school are difficult, this is especially true during a time of such uncertainty, where every change is magnified by something out of students’ control. To combat the frustration and isolation experienced by this group, a completely virtual program was set into motion in September of 2020.

Past research has found that participation in high school newspapers and yearbook staff is often the pathway for students to consider careers in journalism. This qualitative research study investigated the perceptions of support during the college choice process of former CTE dual-enrollment students at one technical college campus. In addition, it examined the types of support participants received as they progressed through the three-stage college choice process (predisposition, search, and choice). Interviews were conducted with eight former CTE dual-enrollment students from a technical college campus. Each participant completed a demographic survey and was asked 15 interview questions that coincide with the three stages of the college choice process. Finally, the data was analyzed and coded to develop a thematic findings structure.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought restraints into people’s activities. Consequently, during the pandemic, the school guidance and counseling services should be conducted online. Therefore, this study seeks to identify the types of online media frequently used by school counselors in classical guidance and individual or group counseling, as well as the rationale. This descriptive quantitative study involved 106 school counselors and used an Online Media Usage questionnaire to obtain the data. The research employed research and development design proposed by Borg and Gall model, which includes identifying aggressive needs and problems, drafting a hypothetical product, and expert and user assessment of the product. The data analysis technique used descriptive analysis to describe the level of aggressiveness. Children’s relationships with their teachers are a potential resource for enhancing developmental and academic outcomes. The effects of positive or negative teacher–child relationships can be either beneficial or detrimental to students’ academic progress, behaviors, and emotions. In the current study, we utilized a qualitative research design to examine 18 pre-kindergarten to fourth-grade teachers’ perceptions of teacher–child relationships, student behavior, and classroom management. Analysis of in-depth interviews yielded five major themes: (a) beliefs in children, (b) teaching strategies, (c) acknowledging individual differences, (d) challenges, and (e) relationships. Academic advising in institutions of higher education lack consistent assessment and evaluation of practices impairing the ability to define the role, objectives, and methods utilized. Over-reliance on student satisfaction surveys for evaluating advising reinforces this phenomenon. To break the cycle, this study used survey responses from a nationwide sample (N = 156) of faculty advisors from public and private 4-year colleges and universities to examine the relationship between and among the constructs of a working relationship, shared power, cultural consciousness, and student learning outcomes. Given the well-documented inequities in health care outcomes by race, ethnicity, and gender, many health career pipeline programs have focused on supporting the development of a diverse and inclusive workforce. The State of Utah, is vast, but sparsely populated outside the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. More than 96% of our nearly 85,000 square miles is designated rural (<100 people/square mile) or frontier (<7 people/square mile). The Salt Lake City area is home to the Hunsman Cancer Institute, the only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the region, also noted the limited diversity in the biomedical cancer research workforce. Our primary objective was to increase the number of underrepresented trainees who pursue higher education with the goal of a career in cancer research. PathMaker is a regional, competitive pipeline program that nurtures high school or undergraduate trainees from historically underrepresented backgrounds towards a career in cancer research.
