Purpose: Academic accommodations in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) have been explored via university websites and surveys of clinical educators, but little is known about CSD faculty attitudes toward accommodations in higher education. This study explored the types of accommodations faculty report and the benefits and barriers they encounter in doing so.

Method: A cross-sectional, mixed-methods study design was used to survey CSD faculty and instructors about the types of accommodations used by CSD students and the benefits and barriers associated with accommodations. The selection process for health sciences programs such as occupational therapy is complex, involving a combination of academic and non-academic selection criteria as entry requirements. This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of entry requirement variables on academic performance during the first and second year of an undergraduate occupational therapy program in South Africa. A quantitative, cross-sectional design was utilized, and the sample included 129 first- and second- year occupational therapy students. Data was collected retrospectively through educational data mining of university records and institutional dashboards. This research question guided the current study: What expectations and experiences influenced program directors’ development and reform of a wardship-centered campus support program? This research focused on the role that Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) play in the lives of today’s college students and how protective factors may increase a student’s level of resilience. This study examined participants’ levels of resilience, what ACEs they experienced prior to entering college, and what role protective factors played in mitigating the impacts of ACEs on resilience levels. Results indicated that older students scored higher in resilience than their younger counterparts. The findings indicated protective factors coupled with resilience play a role in the success of college students. Implications for practice suggest institutions of higher education should examine …

Seaside High School is located on the Central Coast of California and is home to 1,119 students. Bullying has many negative effects on high school students. Some consequences of bullying are suicide, depression and anxiety, and increased likelihood of dropouts. At Seaside High School, a survey was conducted to see if there was a need for a peer mentor program. This qualitative study examined how a provisional admission program (Gateway) at a mid-sized institution in the rural Midwest impacts students' college self-efficacy. Participants were five students who were successfully released from the Gateway Program at the end of the 2016 - 2017 academic year, and were in their sophomore year at time of study. Data was collected from one-on-one semi-structured interviews. The findings suggest that the program's services, with a high emphasis on intrusive advising by program advisors, positively impact students' college self-efficacy. The researcher conducted five one-on-one interviews with students of varying backgrounds and involvements and found that participants experienced pivotal moments while attending their mid-sized, mid-western, public university. Participants described pivotal moments through helping others, working towards their future goals, and experiencing leadership opportunities that caused them to grow as a student. The Freshman Connection: Implementing And Assessing A Plan To Increase Student Success, Pamela Downing-Hosten

The purpose of this practicum was to develop, implement, and assess a plan for reducing the number of freshmen at the high school who failed the grade, with failure being defined as the inability to earn 4 credits within 1 year. From the 1993-1994 school year until the 1997-1998 school year, an average of 17.7% of the 9th-grade class had to repeat the grade. Through the year-long implementation of the plan called the Freshman Connection program, the researcher hoped that the failure rate of 21.9% in 1998 would be reduced to 10.0% in 1999.
