Effective Partnerships Between Campus Police And Student Affairs, Michael Dipalma

This study examined partnerships between campus police and student affairs. The study specifically analyzed the essential elements, benefits, and best practices and programs of partnerships between campus police and student affairs. Participants were a Chief of Police and Chief Student Affairs Officer from large public research one institutions in the Northeast and Southwest. Participants were selected by evidence of a strong partnership between campus police and student affairs on their campus. Data was collected from four one-on-one semi-structured phone interviews. Findings suggest partnerships between campus police and student affairs are beneficial to creating a successful educational environment for students.

The code of conduct process at small institutions can be difficult to manage. The purpose of the study, using a qualitative approach, was to research residents' and Conduct Officers' perception of the resident housing code of conduct process at a small private institution. Research participants included three residents who participated in the conduct process and three Conduct Officers who were involved in the hearings. Results revealed that residents who were sanctioned found the process to be inconsistent and too long. As a result, the impact of the sanctions varied. In this case, a high school vice-principal encounters tension and anger when she rewrites a staff member’s report card comments without his knowledge. The case narrative examines the conflict that arises when, under time constraints and pressures to produce student reports, the vice-principal acts on a decision she believes is ethically correct only to find that she incurs a significant setback with staffing relationships largely due to wavering of trust. The acquisition of early childhood literacy skills is a predictor of academic success in elementary education. In a local school district, 22% of children entering kindergarten were assessed as having a gap in their reading readiness skills (RRS) based on their pre-K scores on the Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning (DIAL-4).
