Valerie Lucus-McEwen CEM CBCP
Emergency management is an established system to prepare for, respond to, recover from and mitigate the consequence of disasters. Natural and manmade disasters have increased public interest in the systems and organizations that have evolved to protect the public from their effects. The Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) was developed as a method to evaluate and accredit emergency management programs. Between January 2003 and December 2004, with funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, EMAP conducted
baseline assessments of 35 U.S. state and territory emergency management programs.
This study was designed to analyze the results of those EMAP baseline assessments. …
Principals' Implementation Of Exclusion Policy In Tennessee Public High Schools, Clarence Steve Moser
Principals' Implementation Of Exclusion Policy In Tennessee Public High Schools, Clarence Steve Moser
Doctoral Dissertations
The exclusion of students from school has been a last-resort response that principals have chosen to correct inappropriate student behaviors. The purpose of this study was to examine student exclusion policies and principal policy implementation practices in Tennessee’s public high schools. The students considered were not suspected for any disability that would require consideration under IDEA or Section 504.
A questionnaire containing nineteen disciplinary scenarios of inappropriate student behaviors was completed by one hundred and ninety-two of Tennessee’s public high school principals. The disciplinary scenarios represented exclusion policies that would warrant the student being suspended from school.
The findings revealed …

Teachers’ Experiences Of Learning Science: A Case Of Autobiographical Reflection, Nelofer Halai
Institute for Educational Development, Karachi
This paper analyzes the experience of learning science in school of 34 teachers enrolled in a science methods course in the M.Ed. programme offered by the Aga Khan University, Pakistan. The participants were expected to write their reflections after recalling their experience of learning science in school. The findings reveal that the majority of teachers recalled negative experiences of learning science and that the teaching style of their teachers influenced the way they feel about science even to this day. It follows that if teachers are helped to recall their own experience of learning science in the classroom, it opens …
Citizenship Education In Pakistani Schools: Problems And Possibilities, Bernadette L. Dean
Citizenship Education In Pakistani Schools: Problems And Possibilities, Bernadette L. Dean
Institute for Educational Development, Karachi
A critical aspect of education that is often overlooked or inadequately addressed is the preparation of school students for citizenship. This paper assesses the current state of citizenship education in Pakistani schools. It draws on the findings of two research studies: an analysis of the social studies curriculum and textbooks and a review of teaching and learning practices in schools. The findings indicate that the curriculum and textbooks do not distinguish between Islamic education and citizenship education and promotes exclusionary and passive citizenship. They also shows that while Pakistani students acquire knowledge and learn some important values in schools, they …

Haitian Creole, Marc E. Prou
Haitian Creole, Marc E. Prou
Marc E. Prou
Haitian Creole, also known as Kreyòl, is a member of the French-based creole language groups with a considerable part of its lexicon coming directly from seventeenth century French. Its grammar differs from French, however, and reflects closely the West African languages, such as Ewe, Fon, Yoruba, and Ibo. Kreyòl is similar to the creoles spoken in the French overseas departments of Martinique and Guadeloupe, as well as in Dominica, Saint Lucia, and parts of Trinidad.
