Journal of Educational Leadership in Action

This article presents the findings that investigated the relationship between a principal's practice in resource allocation and how it promotes a school’s collaborative culture.

Participants of the study were New York City (NYC) Department of Education (DOE) school principals who scored a four or above on the NYC Survey School Measures of “Effective School Leadership.” The independent variable was principal practice defined as resource allocation. The dependent variable, collaborative school culture, was defined as scoring 90% or above on the “Collaborative Teachers” measure of the NYC School Survey. Recent educational research has focused on the Covid-19 impact on students, both educationally and emotionally. Researchers have even begun studying the impact of the pandemic on teachers with virtual instruction; however, very little research exists on the Covid-19 impact on principals. Communities throughout the United States were devastated by the COVID-19 virus. For instance, the mortality rates are higher within Black and Latina/o communities compared to the overall United States population. The pandemic represents another problem that will contribute to anxiety disorders and depression among Black and Latina/o students. How we combat these issues is important. During the 2020-2021 school year millions of students returned to schools and some struggled to adjust because of the traumatic experiences associated with COVID-19. Higher education administrators are tasked with supporting and retaining students with increasing needs. These needs often include emotional and mental health issues but can worsen to include suicidality and violence toward others. Traditional campus approaches for supporting students and intervening for violence, such as counseling and campus safety, have been reactionary rather than proactive. Behavioral Intervention Teams (BITs) have emerged as a mechanism for heading off violence before it occurs while also supporting students who may never engage in violence but need support. First-year seminar (FYS) courses tend to focus on preparing students for successful academic and social integration into the college environment. Many of the studies on FYS courses focus on measuring outcomes such as college grades, retention, and graduation rates. While there is notable documentation of several different types of FYS courses, relatively few studies compare the different types of FYS courses. Promoting Civic And Community-Based Teaching Practices: An Exploratory Study Of Collaborations Between Faculty Development Centers And Civic And Community Engagement Centers, James Morgan Lewing, Lisa M. Bunkowski

eJournal of Public Affairs

The current study sought to provide an initial exploration into collaborative efforts between faculty development centers and civic and community engagement centers related to the promotion of civic and community-based teaching practices. Chief Academic Officers of public institutions supportive of civic and community engagement were surveyed, and findings provided initial evidence that such collaborations do exist and can be effective. However, the partnerships may often be episodic and informal. Implications for practice and future research are discussed.

When COVID hit, Syracuse University needed a solution to process multi-step approvals – fast. That meant thinking creatively and out of the box because when time, accuracy, and error-free routing are critical, traditional submission systems aren’t ideal. That’s precisely why Syracuse turned to InfoReady. And what the InfoReady platform did so powerfully in streamlining limited submissions also turned out to work well for research travel applications, visiting scholar requests, research identification, and essential research approval.

Through collaborating closely with the admissions office to develop a sound financial plan for incoming students, one institution’s student financial services office helped to recruit record numbers of students for the 2021–22 school year.

Through strategic communications and personalized service, accounts were resolved faster, aid was processed quicker, and the traditional stress and rush of fall orientation evaporated into just another workday. Heart-Led Behaviors Of Exemplary Unified School District Superintendents, Sepideh Yeoh

Purpose: The purpose of this phenomenological study was to describe how exemplary K-12 school district superintendents lead from the heart using Mark Crowley’s four principles (building a highly engaged team, connecting on a personal level, maximizing employee potential, and valuing and honoring achievements) to accomplish extraordinary results in their organizations.

Methodology: This study utilized a qualitative phenomenological inquiry methodology to study the behaviors of eight exemplary K-12 school district superintendents in Southern California. Open-ended semistructured interviews were conducted utilizing a virtual platform. Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students

Studies by the United States Department of Education have shown that non-traditional students steadily grow within college campuses' enrollment rates. The National Center for Education Statistics defines that "most often age, especially over the age of 24 has been the defining characteristic for this population. The direct impact of social class (Bambe & Tett, 1999; Quinn, 2010), gender and age (Merrill, 2014), and ethnicity (Bron et al., 2014) on the individual academic lives of the students.
