Perceived Barriers To The Implementation Of Web Enhancement Of Courses By Full-Time Tennessee Board Of Regents Faculty., Thomas Barron Wallace Iii
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to examine faculty reluctance to providing students with access to course resources via the Internet. The study explored known barriers to the use of technology and the Internet within educational settings and provided opportunity for new barriers to be presented. Personal and professional demographic factors were collected to determine if certain characteristics were identifiable as predictors to web enhancement.
An online survey was designed to collect data to address research questions in the study. The survey consisted of 48 questions, including areas for comments and remarks from faculty members. One thousand two (1002) faculty, …

The Professional Development Of Academic Librarians: How Should Institutions Contribute To The Process?, Gregory A. Smith
The Professional Development Of Academic Librarians: How Should Institutions Contribute To The Process?, Gregory A. Smith
Faculty Publications and Presentations
Professional development is universally recognized in education and librarianship as imperative for ongoing effectiveness. Most—though not all—academic libraries support professional development through financial assistance and release time. However, while funding and release time are necessary to professional growth, they are not sufficient. The role of the leader as a steward of organizational culture suggests that academic library administrators should concern themselves with fostering an environment conducive to their subordinates’ professional development. Innovative professional development programs in place at a number of academic libraries stand as a corrective to the seemingly haphazard practices of many libraries and librarians. Further research on …
The Effects Of The Use Of Dynamic Geometry Software On Student Achievement And Interest, Heidi B. Hansen
The Effects Of The Use Of Dynamic Geometry Software On Student Achievement And Interest, Heidi B. Hansen
Mathematics Graduate Theses
This study examines the current research that exists on the effects that the use of dynamic geometry software has on student achievement and interest level in mathematics. Additional questions examined are whether using dynamic geometry software has a greater impact on high or low achievers, and what current methods of implementation are suggested by the research. A review of the relevant literature indicates that the use of dynamic geometry software does have a positive effect on student achievement, particularly achievement in areas of high-level thinking. Insufficient research has been done on the effect that the use of dynamic geometry software …

Issues In Conceptualising And Assessing Emotional Intelligence, Jennifer Bryce
Issues In Conceptualising And Assessing Emotional Intelligence, Jennifer Bryce
2004 - The International Test Users' Conference
The author is in the process of developing a construct of the ‘emotional intelligence’ needed by novice workers. Driving this research is a belief that emotional intelligence is valued in today’s workplace particularly because of the need for flexibility and adaptability in terms of career prospects and because today knowledge is so readily accessible and constantly changing that young people need to have strong generic skills that will help them to keep learning throughout their lives. The intent is to develop a robust construct that will form a basis for rigorous high stakes assessment. It will be argued that some …

Developers, Users And Consumers Beware: Warnings About The Design And Use Of Psycho-Behavioural Rating Inventories And Analyses Of Data Derived From Them, Ken Rowe, Kathy Rowe
2004 - The International Test Users' Conference
Psycho-behavioural rating inventories are used routinely by psychologists and psychiatrists as assessment instruments to assist with the evaluation and ‘diagnosis’ of children and adolescents. They are also used in epidemiological studies to obtain normative/prevalence estimates of children/adolescents with psycho-behavioural ‘problems’. Advantages entailed in their use include ease of administration and the convenience of obtaining estimates of normative behaviours from large numbers of informants. However, serious decisions are frequently made on the basis of ‘measures’ obtained from such instruments, including the labelling of a child as ‘pathologic’, subsequent referral to intervention therapy services, and prescription of medication by a physician. This workshop …
