This change of focus expanded to include principals and required school leaders to possess instructional leadership qualities beyond managerial skills. In 2010, the West Virginia Board of Education enacted the Standards of Professional Practice for West Virginia Superintendents, Principals and Teacher Leaders (WVBE Policy 5800) to guide West Virginia educational leaders toward instructional leadership. The purpose of this study was to gain West Virginia principals’ perceptions at all grade …

Feedback In The Lesson Observation Process: What Guides A Teacher Towards Development, Lina Kerbelyte
MA TESOL Collection
Lesson observation is a very common practice all over the world. However, rarely does it look at personal and interpersonal aspects that are needed in feedback in order to develop autonomous and successful teachers. This thesis does not look deeper into what constitutes a good lesson, nor what methods are most suitable for students. Instead, it seeks to look deeper into the phenomenon of lesson observation feedback through the eyes of a teacher in order to see what aspects of lesson observation are useful and guide educators towards their development. A Phenomenological Inquiry Into The Racialized Experiences Of Southeast Asian American Community College Students, Varaxy Yi Borromeo
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Southeast Asian American (SEAA) (e.g., Cambodian, Hmong, Lao, and Vietnamese) students' educational realities are often masked by assumptions that all Asian Americans are model minorities. However, SEAA students have also been racialized as deviant minorities to explain disparities faced by the community. Relatively minimal scholarship has explored how race and racism shape their experiences. In this study, AsianCrit provides a framework for exploring the racial realities of SEAA students in community college. Qualitative research methods were employed to explore in-depth the ways they experience race and racialization. Specifically, this study is a phenomenological exploration of their lived racialized experiences and …

Fostering Future Leaders Through A Holistic Approach To Discipline, Jennifer-Maple Loew
Fostering Future Leaders Through A Holistic Approach To Discipline, Jennifer-Maple Loew
Leadership for Sustainability Education Comprehensive Papers
Western public school systems are in crisis of failing our students through a funneling effect that punishes students for punitive matters rather then empowering students to learn to be active citizens. Dominant systems of education have produced results such as the marketing of schools, school-to-prison pipeline, harsh zero-tolerance policies and so on. With further staff training and a shift in the school culture, the top-down structure can turn towards a more engaging and meaningful educational environment for students to thrive in.

Perspectives On Time Commitment To Fundraising By Community College Presidents, G. David Gearhart, Michael T. Miller
Journal of Research on the College President
All types of higher education institutions have come to rely on some element of revenue diversification, and fundraising from private sources has become increasingly common and popular among community college presidents. Yet despite the growth in attention to fundraising, community colleges collectively only garner 2% of all philanthropic support to higher education. With the growing demand for private funds, community college presidents must understand how they are using their time for fundraising, and ultimately, the consequence of these fundraising efforts. The current study explored the time commitment of college presidents, finding that they spend as much as 30% of their …
What College Presidents Need To Know About Adult Learners In Higher Education, David Deggs
What College Presidents Need To Know About Adult Learners In Higher Education, David Deggs
Journal of Research on the College President
American higher education has undergone a metamorphosis over the past three decades that has resulted in the emergence of new paradigms for academic program content, modalities for instructional delivery, configuration and delivery of student services, and expansion of outreach models. Central to this metamorphosis is the adult learner in American higher education. Once thought to be the minority in American higher education, adult learners now comprise 74% of all undergraduate college students in the United States (Radford, Cominole & Skomsvold, 2015). This marked shift in the student demographics has caused many American higher education institutions to reconsider the mission, purpose …
