Children from the most marginalised groups face insurmountable barriers to accessing a quality education, while many of those who are in school are not learning. This essay highlights the findings of a 2018 longitudinal mixedmethod explanatory sequential design study conducted at a large research institution with this purpose in mind. The study explored incoming honors students’ beliefs about online courses and how beliefs changed after the first semester of college coursework. Beliefs about online courses were deconstructed using the Community of Inquiry framework (Garrison, Anderson, and Archer 88), a questionnaire aligned with this theory (Arbaugh, Cleveland-Innes, Diaz, Garrison, Ice, Richardson, and Swan 135), and semi-structured interviews. Tracheostomy airway patient safety errors are a global, yet preventable problem. Unrecognized tracheostomy airway complications lead to patient deterioration, resulting in hypoxic brain damage and death or permanent disability. The majority of preventable tracheostomy events occur after patient discharge from the intensive care setting. These catastrophic events are attributed to deficiencies in competent and safe nursing care. Prelicensure nursing students have few clinical opportunities to learn tracheostomy management and may enter nursing practice lacking the clinical competency (CC) to recognize a tracheostomy airway problem. This qualitative study examined teachers’ perspectives about their implementation of differentiated instruction in an effort to support district-led professional development programming. Differentiated instruction is based on well-considered goals and thorough analysis of students’ achievement, progress, and instructional needs, combined with formative assessments and progress monitoring (Van Geel et al., 2019). An initial questionnaire was administered to all K-5 teachers in a suburban school district, followed by individual interviews with three teachers who expressed that they often use differentiation in the classroom. Each of the three teachers participated in two interviews lasting 45-60 minutes each over the course of several weeks. …

This phenomenological qualitative study sought to understand reasons contributing to Black or African American students’ initial stop out, the decisions that led them to return to college, and the processes used to facilitate their return to college after being away from college for one year or more. This research was guided by the following questions: What experiences contributed to the student’s withdrawal from the institution? What experiences contributed to the student’s return to the institution? What retention strategies and programs were used during the withdrawal and re-enrollment processes? Throughout this thesis I confront inequity in its pervasive and far-reaching form of American K-12 school finance. By analyzing the inequitable school funding practices of funding formulas and debt repayment structures, I explore how past and present-day school funding practices have evolved through the values and modes of racial capitalism and more recently, neoliberalism. Through Critical Action Research, I challenge the hegemonic hold racial capitalism and neoliberalism have on school funding by critiquing the educational practices and relations it helps produce. To create the crosswalk between the InTASC and Georgia performance standards, each faculty member used a spreadsheet with rows containing 174 InTASC indicators and columns containing all 75 CAPS indicators. Faculty members worked independently without consulting each other to consider the 15,640 points of alignment between both sets of standards and their indicators. After a complete review, the group met as a whole to discuss the alignment, eventually agreeing on 674 points of alignment between the two sets of standards and their indicator. Additionally, the team found 10,455 points of alignment with the MAP assessment and 3,145 points of alignment …

During that time, computers were introduced into schools across America with big promises, in turn creating big dreams.
