Academic Effects Of Looping On Elementary Students, Debra Lynn Jones
Academic Effects Of Looping On Elementary Students, Debra Lynn Jones
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Purpose With the No Child Left Behind legislation, schools are considering nontraditional ways of looking at teaching and learning to determine what is academically the most beneficial for all children. Looping is a two year placement of students with the same teacher. This classroom configuration offers an opportunity for teachers to build a community and develop a trusting long term relationship with students and parents. This study compared the academic achievement of third grade students in looping and non looping classrooms. Research Questions ( 1) Is there a difference in academic achievement as measured by IS TEP between looping and …

Qualitative Analysis Of Aaup Principles And Ihep Benchmarks And The Policies Of The Six U.S. Regional Accrediting Bodies On Distance Education, Julia Ann Hypes
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study strives to identify the differences and similarities among the accrediting policies on distance education of the six regional accrediting agencies for two-year and four-year institutions. Levels of incorporation of the American Association of University Professor (AAUP) principles and the Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP) benchmarks regarding distance education are identified and listed as either detailed, partial, or none. The growth of distance education programs in higher education must have direction and focus and the distance education policies of the accrediting agencies provide that guidance. The method employed in the gathering of data was a qualitative document analysis. …

Honors Program Theses
Majoring in elementary education, I have spent time in classrooms through field experiences, volunteer activities, and tutoring opportunities. I have learned about and seen teachers implement lessons and curriculum, and I even had the opportunity to lead a few of my own lessons. ln classes, I have written collections of lessons that made up thematic units. Y et I never had the opportunity to develop and implement curriculum unit. I did not know if my plans would actually work with a group of students, nor did I know if the students would meet the lesson goals. The purpose of this …

Is It Simply A New Language Or Is It A Learning Problem?, Lynda M. Warner
Master of Education Program Theses
English Language Learners (ELLs) have been over-identified for placement into special education classes for more than 20 years. Causes include a lack of precisely defined constructs for disabilities, funding methods used by states, failure to follow federal legislation, weak prereferral systems to special education in schools, a huge influx of non-English speaking students to the classroom, and a lack of training amongst teachers. Correctly identifying ELLs who also need special education is difficult, but teachers can safeguard against improper identification by taking into account the social, educational, cultural, and language aspects of students' special circumstances, i.e., the needs of the …
