The purpose of the study is to describe various conditions within selected institutions that are affecting adjunct faculty instructional performance as perceived by adjunct faculty themselves.

This study used a survey methodology with a descriptive design. Results from four community colleges and one university were collected …

Examining Formative Leadership Experiences Of District Science Coordinators Using Collective Case Study, Khushbu Singh May 2024

Examining Formative Leadership Experiences Of District Science Coordinators Using Collective Case Study, Khushbu Singh

All Dissertations

Leadership in educational institutions can significantly impact the quality of education and student outcomes (Ferrell & Garner, 2023; Leithwood et al., 2008). District Science Coordinators (DSCs) play a pivotal role as district-level leaders responsible for enhancing science education (Whitworth et al., 2017). Despite increased attention from researchers and policymakers, a knowledge gap persists regarding DSCs' formative experiences in their leadership roles and their impact on teachers and students (Whitworth & Chiu, 2015). This dissertation focused on two research questions: first, the challenges and/or supports that DSCs encountered during their formative years, and second, the knowledge, practices, and attributes they considered …

Diving Into Pre-Columbian Art: Expanding The Uri Curriculum, Emilia Zeyl May 2024

Diving Into Pre-Columbian Art: Expanding The Uri Curriculum, Emilia Zeyl

Senior Honors Projects

Many art history programs at universities across the country continue to follow a Eurocentric format of ‘modern’ art history that came about in the eighteenth-century. These curricula largely exclude any art history of entire regions, notably Asia, Africa, South America, and Oceana. I was made aware of this issue from my art history professors who are actively working to change this pattern at URI. I wanted to assist in this effort by creating a course that would complement the Latin American-focused subject matter I had engaged with in courses on art history and anthropology, courses that initially sparked my curiosity …

Curriculum For All: An Introduction To Calculus, Maggie Scott May 2024

Curriculum For All: An Introduction To Calculus, Maggie Scott

Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)

Math is one of the only subjects that builds upon itself throughout a student’s educational career. Progressing through each course, students are taught concepts that build upon each other year after year. The content is engaged with itself, yet, it’s historically taught in a non-engaging way. Through my research of math education and my experience as a math teacher, it’s apparent that the most successful math classrooms are the ones that elicit student thinking and allow for self-discovery. (Azad)

Most people have very polarized views of math. Some love it, and some hate it, but almost all students can remember …

Student success was measured by the DFW rates, which refers to the number of students who received a grade letter of D, failed, or withdrew from the course, before and after the implementation of OER resources in various courses. At the individual course level, students’ …

Getting Comfortable: Delegating Authority While Positioning Students With Agency In Elementary Mathematics Classrooms, Mary Ramos-Duke

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

This multiple case study explores how two elementary mathematics teachers made themselves and their students comfortable with the teacher delegating authority to students while also positioning them with agency. I conducted three Video-Stimulated Recall (VSR) interviews and pre- and post-semi-structured interviews with each teacher to understand their practices and thoughts about moments in their teaching related to authority and agency. The presented theoretical framework focused on three factors possibly contributing to the comfort of teachers and students when teachers delegate authority to students while positioning them with agency: getting to know the students by (a) understanding students’ thinking, (b) accounting …

A Performance-Based Exploration Of Vocal Anatomy And Pedagogy: Maximizing Technical, Stylistic, And Physiological Frameworks For Superlative Vocal Technique In Artistic Function, Michael J. Civitano

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

This study investigates the influence of specific frameworks in performance and vocal pedagogy on artists' capacity to enact evidence-based learning outcomes, with emphasis on vocal physiology and educator-performer relationships. Employing an experimental design, five philosophies that support capacity-building were tested across two trial settings, varying in intensity. The participant utilized narrative reasoning, diversified methods, and mentorship from specialized educators to apply frameworks. Findings indicate that, in practicing evidence-based learning and maximizing anatomic foundations of the voice, substantial developments in artistic capacity ensued. Educator-performer relationships mediate this process through reciprocal collaborations that foster capacity-building. Performers display optimal artistic capacity by effectively …
