The objective of this research is to examine the effectiveness of Drug Courts and what makes the courts more effective than the traditional probation process. A systematic review of studies conducted to assess the impact of drug courts on stated outcomes indicates that the policy is an effectives means of reducing negative outcomes between drug courts and drug offenders. In addition, this policy reduces the incarceration number of inmates due to the rehabilitation style treatment that the offenders receive.

My research aims to show the older generation of Disney princesses' problems and how they are changing the narrative to give girls more agency. In some research, I have learned that 'Disney Princesses represent salient, powerful, attractive characters who tend to be portrayed as conforming to gender stereotypes and are rewarded for their gendered behavior' (Coyner, para9). Most girls identify with older princesses like Snow White or Cinderella than newer ones who give women more agency. Moral panics have ensued in the past over various qualities of the genre, and there is still residual stigma to be found today, much of which is based upon misperceptions of cause and effect.

The Car Ride Home explores the coming of age of a young boy into a queer man, searching and sifting through the trauma of home life, and realizing his mother’s addiction affects more than just herself, but an entire family. This realization coincides with views of masculinity, as he carefully watches the men around him. He internalizes these depictions of masculinity when exploring his own confusion and investigation of his own sexual identity and queerness. English dominance considers the status of English as a lingua franca in academia. In A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, respectively, Betty Smith and Maya Angelou vividly paint the places, people, and customs that contextualize Francie and Marguerite’s growth. In fact, the societies to which both the protagonists and the authors talk back contribute greatly to how they express themselves. The interplays between past and present and between personal and public all inform how Smith and Angelou describe and develop the stories of their younger selves. The Last of Us and The Walking Dead video games deploy father-daughter relationship pairings between their main characters in ways that disrupt the hegemonic patriarchal understandings of those very roles, though in different ways. The Last of Us and The Walking Dead utilize paternal mentorship in ways that subvert patriarchal ideology’s established patterns for gendered behavior through role-switching and alternative models of masculine care respectively. Where video games too often still cater to an audience that is heterosexual, white, and male, these games feature narratives that challenge the heteropatriarchal messaging common to this medium. Harper Lee’s novels To Kill a Mockingbird and Go Set a Watchman emphasize the struggle of mid-twentieth century Southern identity as Southerners searched for security, and she does so particularly in her main character, Jean Louise “Scout” Finch. Throughout the novels, Jean Louise fights to find a balance within herself as she learns to decide what to accept or reject from her Southern culture.
