In this work, we reflect on our successes and failures teaching ecofeminism within various topics and in different settings. Abstract for An Unexpected Study

This essay review interrogates the polemical style of rhetoric in Holly Ordway’s Tolkien’s Modern Reading. It critiques her use of a fictional narrative to represent an adolescent Tolkien, her intertextual criteria, and her dating of Victorian fantasists and their historical moment. It questions her claims about entrenched notions concerning Tolkien, her use of evidence, and her assumptions about her audience. It concludes that Ordway is less interested in Tolkien’s contemporary reading and more interested in creating a new narrative about Tolkien the author.

Despite his own high level of literacy and education, the Venerable Bede (672/3–735) inhabited a world in which nearly all personal, social, educational, and political discourse was conducted orally. A thorough understanding of his works will require an understanding of this discourse, but attempts to apply broad theories of “orality” derived from other cultures to early medieval England have repeatedly foundered. In this paper, I shall be trying to investigate the nature of the English Renaissance drama through two prominent examples: Thomas Kyd's The Spanish Tragedy (1556-1857) and Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus (1588-1593). In order to carry out this aim Kyd's play (probably performed 1586–7), will be looked at as the first successful English example of tragedy, for its force and originality was widely acknowledged, and Marlowe's play (probably performed 1592) as an artistic expression of the Renaissance spirit, a recreation of the Faust legend. This paper is an attempt to apply Brown and Levinson's (1987) politeness theory on Lady Macbeth's speech in Shakespeare's Macbeth. By analyzing her dialogues in the play, the researchers try to find the politeness strategies in these dialogues, and the reasons behind preferring the use one strategy over another. After classifying the analyzed selected parts of the play and arranging them according to Brown and Levinson’s (1987) politeness strategies, the researchers found that power, status and distance play the biggest role in preferring one strategy over the others. The evangelical upbringing of Agnes, as the daughter of a clergyman, plays significant role in developing her strong and selfless character and inspires her to sympathize with the poor. The author defines meaning as the outcome of a confrontation between a set of possible interpretations and a situation. First of all, by exploring both Peirce and Wittgensteins's contributions, he recalls the foundations of such pragmatic semiotics. Then, from Whitehead's notion of "event", he separates out the concept of "semiotic situations". Next, he defines the grammatical, syntaxic and interpretative elements that compose semiotics. DISCOVERING CAROLINE is the script for an ensemble, a feature-length supernatural drama, set in 1899. Caroline, presumed dead at birth, returns forty years later to the scene of that tragedy, a university nursing school training hospital, where her birth mother still works as a lunch lady. Surrounded by a dozen other characters (thirteen if you count the pig), played against a backdrop of a handful of supernatural events, this script explores familiar love, romantic love, inappropriate love, truth, deceit, death, and the consequences on others when these life events intertwine throughout seventy-seven scenes. This thesis encourages the intentional and explicit integration of the best practices in media literacy education within the first-year composition classroom. The nature of FYC, which incorporates such content as research skills and source evaluation, provides an ideal opportunity to address the online misinformation and disinformation that have resulted in growing political polarization and cynicism.
