William Shakespeare wrote his plays for box-office profits at the theater, not for a reading public. When his old colleagues John Hemings and Henry Condell published his plays seven years after his death, they too were looking for financial profit and "packaged" the dramas -- as well as the dramatist himself -- to boost income by appealing to a new market of readers, thus making Shakespeare the subject of literary studies ever since.

Science Fiction In The Spanish University: The Boundaries That Need To Be Broken, Sara Martín
Alambique. Revista académica de ciencia ficción y fantasía / Jornal acadêmico de ficção científica e fantasía
The aim of this article is to trace what Rosi Braidotti calls an ‘accurate cartography’ as regards the limited space that science-fiction occupies in the Spanish university. SF has not yet overcome in Spain what Brian Baker has called its ‘crisis of legitimation’. Teaching this genre and doing research on it is, hence, still conditioned within our national borders by boundaries broken in the Anglo-American university many decades ago. Another main barrier, as I argue here, is the lack …

21st Century Shakespeare, Evelyn Gajowski

Why do Shakespeare's texts resonate so powerfully for us at the outset of the twenty-first century? Why is Shakespeare more popular today than ever before? What are the various ways in which we consume Shakespeare's texts 400 years after he produced them? Professor Gajowski aims to suggest answers to these questions by elucidating the current state of the art of analyzing Shakespeare

On July 10, 2016 Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump tweeted, “The media is so dishonest. If I make a statement, they twist it and turn it to make it sound bad or foolish. They think the public is stupid!”[1] On August 10, 2016 Trump’s campaign released a statement titled, “Trump Campaign Statement on Dishonest Media.”[2] The statement itself had nothing to do with media dishonesty, but rather the statement clarified some remarks the candidate made during a speech about gun control. Both of these statements were made due to Trump’s feeling that his words had been twisted and …
