'In The Weave: Bhutanese Textiles And National Identity' Exhibit Logo And Panels, Anne Giangiulio
'In The Weave: Bhutanese Textiles And National Identity' Exhibit Logo And Panels, Anne Giangiulio
Selected Works Temporary Series
'In the Weave: Bhutanese Textiles and National Identity' logo and informational wall panels designed for the exhibit at the Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Visual Arts. The photography used in these panels was taken by 2008 Guggenheim Fellow and New Mexico State University Professor David Taylor. I isolated and monotoned all the hand-painted Buddhist symbols used in the panels from a single shot of Taylor's taken of a Bhutanese temple wall.

Building A Bosque: 10 Years Of Habitat Restoration At Rio Bosque Wetlands Park, Anne Giangiulio
Selected Works Temporary Series
Designed and installed the exhibit 'Building a Bosque: 10 Years of Habitat Restoration at Rio Bosque Wetlands Park' at UTEP’s Centennial Museum. This exhibit celebrated a 10-year collaboration between the University's Center for Environmental Resource Management and other local entities in caring for the Wetlands and helping restore it to the plant and wildlife habitat it once was prior to the channelization of the Rio Grande in the mid-1930s. Beck Show Poster, Anne Giangiulio
Beck Show Poster, Anne Giangiulio
Selected Works Temporary Series
Designed a gig poster for the September 25 Beck show at the Abraham Chavez Theatre. The downloadable file here does not depict well that the poster was screenprinted with metallic gold ink on speckletone brown French paper. A photo of me with the poster appeared in Vanity Fair online in an article about Beck's "secret" show he played after the scheduled Abraham Chavez performance. See the online article at: http://www.vanityfair.com/online/culture/2008/09/29/becks-secret-show-in-el-paso-tx.html
Pitch Black, Anne Giangiulio
Pitch Black, Anne Giangiulio
Selected Works Temporary Series
'Pitch Black' by Anthony Horton and Youme Landowne is a graphic tale I designed. Published by El Paso's Cinco Puntos Press, 'Pitch Black' was honored by the American Librarian Association as one of 2008's top ten graphic novels for young adults. The book also received a rave Kirkus review on September 15, 2008 noting its design “...and the fluid black-and-white sequential panels tell it well.” Finally, on October 7, 2008, The New York Times did a feature on the book both in print and online in its 'City Room' page: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/10/07/rules-for-living-in-subway-tunnels/?hp Please be patient when downloading as file is 6.6 …

To The Ends Of The Earth: Utep At The Poles, Anne Giangiulio
Selected Works Temporary Series
I designed the exhibit 'To the Ends of the Earth: UTEP at the Poles' at UTEP’s Centennial Museum. This exhibit displayed the photography and research findings of the IPY-ROAM (International Polar Year–Research and Educational Opportunities in Antarctica for Minorities) program hosted by the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), especially as they pertain to global warming. For more information about the program and this exhibit, go to: http://ipyroam.utep.edu/ The exhibit was also the featured cover story of 'UTEP Magazine's Winter 2008 issue. For a Flash version of this issue go to: http://utepmagazine.utep.edu/winter2008/

Documentary Film Presentation Local Colors: Natural Dyeing In A Milas Carpet Weaving Village, Ulara Tamura, John Wells
Documentary Film Presentation Local Colors: Natural Dyeing In A Milas Carpet Weaving Village, Ulara Tamura, John Wells
Textile Society of America: Symposium Proceedings
This documentary, filmed in 2006, examines the process of naturally dyed carpet production in a village in the Milas region of Muğla Prefecture in southwest Turkey, a region well known as a traditional Turkish carpet production area. In large numbers of villages of this region, carpet weaving is the household based work of every woman who lives there.
In this paper, I aim to add more detailed information and discussion specifically on the colors and dyes of the carpets shown in this film. First I will introduce the varieties of the natural dye materials the villagers use one by one. …
The Evolution Of A Tourist Landscape: Wet Plate Collodion Photographs Of The Wisconsin Dells In The Twenty-First Century, Nick Olson
Lawrence University Honors Projects
A modern traveler of Wisconsin most often experiences the landscape through the windows of a car: shut in, listening to the latest hits on the radio, traveling at 70 miles per hour through rolling corn fields in the central part of the state. In this state of mind one cannot learn in-depth what potential experience the landscape has to offer. Of course the experience of an asphalt path flying by underneath is a reality in itself but other possible ways to experience the landscape exist. Along all roads, a plethora of billboards distract the traveler from the space through which …
On Green Technology, Julia Butterfly Hill
On Green Technology, Julia Butterfly Hill
SWITCH
In this article, Hill shares a reflection on how humanity has lost its sense of connection with the Earth and each other, a disconnection she calls “Separation Syndrome.” Hill explores how technology can either harm or help depending on how we use it. She encourages artists and creators to approach technology and the environment with connected consciousness, using creativity for healing, sustainability, and transformation.

Mural, Painting And Art Education Project With African Refugees And The African Community Center Of West Michigan, Carrie Schoenborn, Jill Eggers
Student Summer Scholars Manuscripts
In starting the project at the African Community Center, we spent time getting to know the center, the people who use it and how it is used. We began by simply being at the center and helping with whatever needed to be done. We answered phones, met people who came and cleaned the donation closet. Yaka, the director, brought us to visit many of the families that use the center and we talked to both the refugees and Yaka about the experiences these individuals had coming to the United States; the difficulties they faced in Africa, on their journey to …
