The Kalman filter is the minimum-variance state estimator for linear dynamic systems with Gaussian noise. Even if the noise is non-Gaussian, the Kalman filter is the best linear estimator. For nonlinear systems it is not possible, in general, to derive the optimal state estimator in closed form, but various modifications of the Kalman filter can be used to estimate the state. These modifications include the extended Kalman filter, the unscented Kalman filter, and the particle filter. Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT), a conducting polymer, has been used since
the 1990s for the cathode of tantalum capacitors, which have a tantalum anode, and a layer of
tantalum pentoxide as the dielectric. Such capacitors are referred to as Polymer Ta capacitors.
The first method, an in situ polymerization technique, used to deposit the polymer resulted in
capacitors with a significant leakage current and breakdown voltages near 50 V. The second
method, a pre-polymerization (pre-poly) technique, resulted in capacitors that have a much lower
leakage current and a higher breakdown voltage than the in situ capacitors.

This work proposes a piecewise linear network model to approximate structures observed in an image. An energy function is used to capture the characteristics of the structure. The energy function consists of two parts: the prior energy term and the data energy term. The prior energy term is calculated using prior information about the structures of interest. The data energy term is calculated using observations made from the image. The energy function is minimized using Reversible Jump Markov Chain Monte Carlo (RJMCMC) to get the approximate centerline of the structure. The algorithm was tested on a database of $150$ images …

Bridge decks deteriorate over time as a result of deicing salts, freezing-andthawing, and heavy use, resulting in internal defects. According to a 2006 study by the American Society of Civil Engineers, 29% of bridges in the United States are considered structurally deficient or functionally obsolete. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a promising non-destructive evaluation technique for assessing subsurface conditions of bridge decks. This dissertation is divided into four self-contained chapters. In Chapter 1, a new estimator using a single calibrated camera mounted on a moving platform is developed to asymptotically recover the range and the three-dimensional (3D) Euclidean position of a static object feature. The estimator also recovers the constant 3D Euclidean coordinates of the feature relative to the world frame as a byproduct. The position and orientation of the camera is assumed to be measurable unlike existing observers where velocity measurements are assumed to be known. Spectrum access protocols permit secondary users to transmit on frequency bands that are not being utilized by the primary owners. A cognitive radio that wishes to transmit in a band must first decide if the band is available (i.e., not being used by the owner) and then it must periodically re-evaluate the band's availability once it begins transmitting in the band to ensure that a signal from a primary owner has not emerged. The waveguide invariant in shallow water environments has been widely studied in the context of passive sonar. The invariant provides a relationship between the frequency content of a moving broadband source and the distance to the receiver, and this relationship is not strongly affected by small perturbations in environment parameters such as sound speed or bottom features. Recent experiments in shallow water suggest that a similar range-frequency structure manifested as striations in the spectrogram exists for active sonar, and this property has the potential to enhance the performance of target tracking algorithms. The system clock has been omnipresent in most mainstream chip designs. While simplifying many design problems the clock has caused the problems of clock skew, high power consumption, electromagnetic interference, and worst-case performance. In recent years, as the timing constraints of synchronous designs have been squeezed ever tighter, the efficiencies of asynchronous designs have become more attractive. This paper deals with the problem of damping inter-area oscillations in wide-area bulk power systems using unified power flow controllers. Dynamic placement and signal selection are two important issues when FACTS devices are deployed in the system. in the paper both problems have been investigated using a Most Dominant Branches table calculated based on modal analysis which shows the influence of active powers of the branches on inter-area modes of the system. based on the principle of divide and conquer, in this paper we propose an efficient traceback protocol for mobile ad hoc networks, the protocol is capable of detecting a hotspot where the attacker resides. It works by dividing the forwarding path of every packet into multiple interweaving fragments and each reachable fragment is individually reconstructed during a traceback process. through simulations in theoretical mobility models as well as real mobility traces, we show that each traceback of our scheme can attribute to a very small hotspot and the attacker can be accurately identified after a number of traceback operations. © …

Their unifying principle is the measurement of electrical impedance for the detection and analysis of biological materials. Impedance measurements have long been employed and studied in scientific fields, and the dissertation begins with a summary of historical methodology, applications, and terminology. Utilizing impedance measurements for microscopic imaging is the driving motivation for Scanning Impedance Imaging (SII). This paper presents the design and test results of a standalone computational radiation sensor system based on a single chip solution. A low-power sensor front end with a charge sensitive amplifier and an event driven analog-to-digital converter is integrated on the same chip as a dedicated microcontroller to process and bin the data from the neutron detector diode heterojunction according to pulse height. This combination effectively implements a single chip multichannel analyzer with the capability to do further processing of the data in software. We present several techniques for maximizing the contact time between low Earth orbiting satellites (LEOs) and a ground station (GS). The GS comprises an adaptive array of electronically steered space-fed lenses (SFLs). Each SFL is manufactured as a low-cost printed circuit with the result that it exhibits scanning loss. By differently orienting the boresights of the SFLs in the adaptive array, the SFL's scanning losses can be made to optimally complement the path loss of the LEO, thereby reducing the cost of the GS while maximizing the download capacity of the satellite link.
