Fragmenting Kill/Shot, Rachel Washington

In "Fragmenting Kill/Shot", I will explore how my play Kill/Shot changed over the course of the rehearsal and production process. I will explain and defend stylistic choices I made for this play, including how the others on the production team interpreted those stylistic choices. Finally, I will explore how changes to the script can help protect the play from being misinterpreted in the future.

The Theatre Department's production of Kurt Well's Street Scene was a platform of the project. In this paper, I explore the dramaturgical process and the connection of the production to American Studies.

The term Zwischenfach has been described in a small number of papers, with the emphasis on its paradoxes and its lack of research. However, in none of these papers is there concrete evidence that the Zwischenfach should be considered a separate voice category rather than simply an “in-between” Fach. The goal of this paper is to explore the thesis that the Zwischenfach should be considered a separate and distinct Fach. Supporting evidence includes studies on tessitura, range, vowel usage, and the orchestration of roles, as examined in the arias of five characters in the operas of Wagner and Strauss. Establishing …

The bass clarinet of the twenty-first century has come into its own. Composers often treat it as a solo instrument and clarinetists are more often expected to play bass clarinet. In the last half of the twentieth century, the amount of literature for bass clarinet has grown and the quality of the instruments have improved exponentially. Still, most university studios focus primarily on B-flat clarinet. This document is intended as a pedagogical guide for the inclusion of the bass clarinet in the clarinet studio. How can classical ballet adapt to a world that is in an ever more rapid state of flux? By uncovering an example of the kind of interdisciplinary artistic collaboration that contributed to the thriving artistic environment of the early twentieth century, a model for artistic success emerges. By examining modernism and Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in relation to Christopher Wheeldon’s groundbreaking 2011 ballet Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, a correlation between the success of the Ballets Russes and the success of Wheeldon is exposed. This thesis is the culmination of the scenic design for the play, The Skin of Our Teeth by Thornton Wilder, performed in the Howell Memorial Theatre during the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film’s 2014-2015 University Theatre season.

Virginia Smith directed The Skin of Our Teeth, leading a creative team comprised of both graduate and undergraduate students. This thesis contains the entire scenic design process including initial meetings, conceptualization, renderings, paperwork, the tech process, and production photographs.

Using Solo Drama To Make The Teaching Of Social Studies Engaging For Students, Michael Kemeh

Social studies is a major subject taught in schools in the United States. Research shows lack of interest in the subject by most school children. The author reflects on how he prepares teachers in a graduate drama course to use solo drama as another instructional option to address the problem. The paper also examines integrated solo drama projects by four students in their respective classrooms as case studies. The findings are synthesized to demonstrate the efficacy of this drama strategy for classroom teachers and teacher educators to adopt in making social studies meaningful and engaging for learners.

The eleventh-century Tibetan female ascetic, Machik Labdrön (1055-1153), developed a Vajrayāna (Tantric) Buddhist meditation method called Chöd (Tib. gCod, Eng. “to cut”) and associated ritual practices as a means of eliminating “self-grasping,” which is defined as the mistaken instinct of regarding one’s “self” and all phenomena as intrinsically, or independently, existent. Her musical-meditation method became renowned across Central Asia during her lifetime, and Chödritual practices and liturgies have been transmitted from teacher to disciple in unbroken lineages until today. “…And Finally Examining Some Implications”: (Mis)Use Of Evidence In Informative Speaking, Ben Walker, Hilary Rasmussen

National Forensic Journal

In 1983, Bob Frank published his critique of evidence use in Persuasive Speaking at the 1981 NFA championship tournament. While many similar critiques have been done since then, this analysis attempts to update Frank’s critique in the light of modern informative speaking. The authors analyzed the 2011 NFA Informative Speaking final round speeches, examining the use of evidence. This article presents those findings and offers points of discussion for the forensic community.
