Theodore Morrison (b. 1938) was involved with music at a very young age as singer, organist, and choirmaster. As his musical career prospered he grew as a teacher, conductor, and composer. His compositional output includes several large works for chorus, soloists and orchestra, and a substantial body of shorter works. The smaller works encompass an overture for wind ensemble, chamber pieces for woodwinds and strings, a sonata and a set of variations for organ, several works for chorus and organ, an a cappella mass, three song cycles, and numerous choral pieces and songs. Dave Brubeck (b. 1920) is best known as a jazz composer, pianist, and bandleader, but he has also composed dozens of works that reach beyond the realm of jazz. His Chromatic Fantasy Sonata represents a milestone in his compositional activity, artfully fusing elements from European art music and the American jazz idiom. The work's subtitle ("inspired by J. S. Bach") makes clear the influence of the Baroque master, but gives no hint of the thoroughgoing jazz influences Brubeck also included in the piece. Michael McGlynn, Irish composer and director of the choral group Anúna, is a fresh and engaging voice in the world of choral music. This paper delves into the sacred and secular works of Michael McGlynn to yield a clearer understanding of the style of this unique composer and the performance issues inherent in McGlynn’s Celtic Mass, an extended work for chorus, strings, harp, and percussion. Correspondence with the composer and examination of a representative cross section of his works revealed a number of influences, from Medieval music to the traditional music of McGlynn’s Irish homeland. Music educators interact with a wide range of students with varying levels of abilities. Numerous research studies outline a variety of teaching models and methods aimed at creating a successful classroom environment for all children, regardless of their capabilities. This survey research investigated current practices in which special education teaching methods pertain to elementary music educators in Iowa and the relationship of these practices to the current research literature. The thesis project, 'A Collection of Original Music', is a creative/performative project comprised of composing, rehearsing, performing, recording, and notating original music. Designed to be completed as a collaboration between two musicians, Kelsey and I worked together during each of the tasks of the project. Consisting of four original pieces for piano/voice, and ukulele/voice, the compositions were performed at a live concert/thesis presentation, recorded at a later date, and transcribed for posterity.

The area of classical trumpet performance has been primarily regarded as a masculine profession and many are surprised to be informed of or stumble upon some of the great female trumpeters of our time. Since the gender of trumpet players is seemingly one-sided, it is important to note to what degree, if any, gender impacts this profession. This paper summarizes our history with designing coherent real-time processing algorithms within Kyma that enable the spontaneous processing of acoustic instruments using the Capybara-320 and Pacarana synthesis engines in interactive real-time performance. Compositional and performance issues for the current work, System of Shadows, are examined, discussed, and performed during the demonstration, focusing on the composer’s Kyma processing algorithms and the musical score used by both performers. We posit relevant data surrounding the interactive performance issues involved in a complex real-time processing work of this nature, and discuss our collaborative creative process. The human mind assimilates information and experiences quickly and constantly, and is aided by mental systems that we rely on to function. We classify the input of our lives with extreme efficiency. Our notions about the things we encounter in the world are learned from past experiences, and these expectations help us file the data of our lives. My work is composed to create pause.
