Honoring the Chinese burial grounds of Boston’s Mt. Hope Cemetery has been the signature focus of the Chinese Historical Society of New England (CHSNE) for two decades. Throughout that time, students from the Asian American Studies Program and the Coalition for Asian Pacific American Youth (CAPAY) at UMass Boston have been deeply involved with service-learning, documentation, and education projects to connect younger generations with the site’s historical importance and contemporary meaning.

The Mass. Memories Road Show is an event-based public history project that digitizes family photographs and stories shared by the people of Massachusetts. We work with local communities to organize free public events where everyone is invited to bring photographs to be scanned and included in the archives at UMass Boston.

To date, the Mass. Memories Road Show has digitized more than 5,000 photographs and stories from across the state, creating an educational resource of primary sources for future generations. Over time, we plan to visit each of the 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts.

Clark, Camp Nolin, Hardin County, Kentucky, to his aunt, Elisabeth Thompson, East Nottingham, Pennsylvania. He describes the setting up and moving out of a camp; estimates there are about 40,000 to 50,000 troops in the area; and mentions Simon Bolivar Buckner’s presence in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Godby relates world conditions of that time period and records brief data about time spent in the Pacific Theater as a U.S. Army Air Corps sergeant. Godby did not see action on the fighting front.

A group of students and community members trekked up the hill from the campus, resting on Oak Hill at the base of the Eternal Light Peace Memorial to hear myself and Janet Riggs, the college's President and a fellow alum. Speed was originally from Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky, and was called the “Pennyrile Poet Laureate.”

The writer relates that their carnival was very successful and that their production of Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch was quite a “unique feature.” Picture on postcard is of the cast and scenery of the play.

His regiment was stationed in southeastern Kentucky, then Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He describes his company’s activities in preparation for the Battle of Mill Springs and with Felix Zollicoffer’s forces at Johnson’s Island, where he died. Other items include war records and photographs concerning Dean and Johnson’s Island cemetery.
