Con Fe Te Vere Otra Vez, Edwin Perez-Hernandez 2025 Northern Illinois University

Con Fe Te Vere Otra Vez, Edwin Perez-Hernandez

Student Projects

"Con Fe the vere otra vez" is a photographic series that documents the struggles associated with immigration. How it causes a divide in the familial construct as one member separates themself to build a better opportunity while sacrificing the opportunity to live a life with the family they were raised with. This work focuses on showing how though separated they still find ways to connect with each other. This series also serves as a way to connect and comfort immigrants and individuals whose family immigrated and remind them they are not alone. In a political climate where Mexican and Mexican-Americans …

“Something To Be Involved In”: Fostering Intra-Campus Community Through Zine- Making And The Potentials Of A Zine Library At Binghamton University, Autumn Jacobs

Library Research Scholars Program Spring 2025

Zines encompass a wide variety of works broadly defined as self-published print works that are not made with profit in mind. They have long fostered community networks for marginalized groups and fringe interests. In recent years, they have increasingly been used in academic contexts, through class assignments, student organizations, and library programming. While there have been a number of zinemaking initiatives at Binghamton University, there has been little institutional support for this work and it has been incredibly fragmented. This project aims to bridge the gaps between zinemakers and administrative support through the creation of a campus zine library. During …

Mobile Hyflex In Product Design Studios, Ceri Almrott

Case studies: Digital Education

Studio 201: Design Process is a year 2 design studio module which looks to teach students the iterative design process and is typically structured around active learning and problem-solving in physical studio spaces. Historically the primary learning occurred during a 4hour studio session with an additional 2-hour supervision session occurring later in the week. For the 2024-2025 academic year this model was flipped with active studio activities taking the whole of the early week, 4-hour session and the more theoretical and knowledge transfer activities occurring in the shorter session via Hyflex delivery. The goal of this session was to take …

Using Generative Ai To Procedurally Populate Assets In An Ascii Level, Tianxing Jiang 2025 Southern Methodist University

Using Generative Ai To Procedurally Populate Assets In An Ascii Level, Tianxing Jiang

Level Design Theses and Dissertations

This study focuses on how to make use of generative AI in game level development by procedurally populating assets at a code-based level in a video game. The researcher aims to enhance developers’ efficiency in aesthetic milestone by adapting a pipeline in which generative AI handles decoration process that has less impact on gameplay. Consequently, the researcher creates a pipeline outlining the best practices for conducting the pipeline using generative AI. The researcher constructed a game level in Left 4 Dead 2 to explore the effectiveness of this pipeline. Testers play the level and provided feedback regarding their experiences, especially …

Alvar Aalto: Past. Present.Future, Matthew Collins 2025 Western Michigan University

Alvar Aalto: Past. Present.Future, Matthew Collins

Interior Design Capstones

Alvar Aalto serves as a timeless guide for architectural and design principles. These principles are not of universal rigidness but are flexible based on the givenconditions of site, culture, and people. His traditionalmethods of sketching and drawing create a hand to mind connection to the design process. This process, much like his work, develops a mindful and thoughtful outcome of decisions. With computer technology become more increasingly apart of our lives, it is important that we not forget the human point of view rather than purely a rational mode of thinking. This capstone project address how it is possible to …

Architecture Of Union: Exploring Community-Supported Wedding Venues, Erica Keillor 2025 Western Michigan University

Architecture Of Union: Exploring Community-Supported Wedding Venues, Erica Keillor

Interior Design Capstones

Weddings, as deeply symbolic rituals, often rely heavily on the venue to set the tone and enhance the emotional resonance of the event Yet, the rising cost of wedding venues often excludes couples from lower-to-middle income backgrounds, creating a barrier to access for many. This design project explores the potential of a community-supported greenhouse wedding venue—a model that not only offers affordability through shared community investment but also enhances the symbolic resonance of weddings through its nature-integrated architecture. The design investigates how intentional spatial planning within a greenhouse structure can serve both the practical needs of wedding ceremonies and the …

Perspectives On Gaming Throughout The Years, Noh Fekre 2025 San Jose State University

Perspectives On Gaming Throughout The Years, Noh Fekre

ART 108: Introduction to Games Studies

Video games are a lot younger of an art form compared to other mediums like books or movies which means how they fit into our culture isn’t really set in stone yet. They have existed for a while but got their first big boom through arcades and home consoles. I want to look at how video games present themselves differently to other mediums and how that might have affected their perception amongst the general populace while also looking at how that perception has changed over time due to how games have changed themselves.

When The Audience Takes The Controller: How Streaming Is Changing The Way We Play Games, Lea Wilhelmer 2025 San Jose State University

When The Audience Takes The Controller: How Streaming Is Changing The Way We Play Games, Lea Wilhelmer

ART 108: Introduction to Games Studies

For decades, video games have been understood as solitary experiences. A player would sit alone or with a small group, controller in hand, navigating digital worlds where every action, decision, and outcome was shaped by their own input. At its core, gaming was personal. The lines between the audience and player were clearly drawn. The player was the one actively involved in the game, while everyone else was an observer, watching from the sidelines. This traditional model has seen significant transformation in the last decade, as the rise of streaming platforms like Twitch, YouTube Gaming, and other similar services radically …

Redefining Fun: How Realism And Effort Engage Players In Video Games, Marsel Abdullin 2025 San Jose State University

Redefining Fun: How Realism And Effort Engage Players In Video Games, Marsel Abdullin

ART 108: Introduction to Games Studies

In the current era of video game development, the gaming industry frequently pursues instant gratification, creating a landscape for immediate and empowering rewards. Current trends clearly show that experiences allow players to become superhuman or extraordinary beings with very little difficulty, satisfying a common desire for escapism and power. This suggests that “fun” is commonly associated with ease, speed, and constant positive feedback. However, my counter-argument is the emergence of games such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Red Dead Redemption 2. These games operate with a different game design and philosophy. In fact, they embrace slowness, hardship, and the detailed …

The Evolution Of Video Game Collectibles And Marketplaces, Leland Lee 2025 San Jose State University

The Evolution Of Video Game Collectibles And Marketplaces, Leland Lee

ART 108: Introduction to Games Studies

Digital Collectibles such as weapon skins, avatar skins, emotes, and in-game art were created as a playful surprise for the video game experience. Many years later, it has produced a multibillion-dollar economy in the gaming industry and is also responsible for the high demand for intriguing in-game collectibles. Although these cosmetic features were initially meant for looks, they have evolved into something of actual value that has completely changed the landscape of games and how they are played. As a result, this has created an intricate environment where players are able to buy, trade, and sell in-game collectibles in both …

Nothing Is Off Limits, But Not Everything Is Done Right: Exploring Ineffability, Alejandro Maciel 2025 San Jose State University

Nothing Is Off Limits, But Not Everything Is Done Right: Exploring Ineffability, Alejandro Maciel

ART 108: Introduction to Games Studies

Games are capable of addressing absolutely anything. No topic is too big, too controversial, or too emotional. but not everything is done well; the problem isn't the subject, it's always the delivery. When the developers approach heavy topics without care, they risk doing harm. bwhen they do their research and consult communities and write with purpose, the result can be transformative. Representation, when handled with attention, isn't political correctness; it's simply good storytelling. it's how games become more than entertainment. They become tools for empathy, education, and more valuable connections

The Cost Of Creative Freedom: Comparing Aaa And Indie Game Development, Andrei Morgunov 2025 San Jose State University

The Cost Of Creative Freedom: Comparing Aaa And Indie Game Development, Andrei Morgunov

ART 108: Introduction to Games Studies

The independent development model provides developers with creative freedom and personal fulfillment because it enables them to learn through hands-on experience while creating distinctive experiences and developing diverse skills. It provides them with both long-term ownership of their work and the chance to achieve remarkable success through their own efforts while allowing them to maintain direct communication with players who appreciate their creative output. The choice between AAA and indie depends on individual career goals, but developers who view games as more than just products of entertainment can find greater meaning in the indie path, Long-term triple-A developers who want …

This anthology not only offers us a window into their individual practices, but also provides a glimpse of the spirit and camaraderie that underscores their experience as a cohort. The very making of this anthology is a reflection of that collective spirit, and you will find many traces …

Teaching Video Composition And Digital Rhetoric In The Youtube Era: Analysis And Research Of Academic Video Essays In The College Composition Classroom, Carmen Ollila

All NMU Master's Theses

As video-based communication has gained popularity across sites like YouTube, it is essential to represent this type of rhetorical communication within the college composition classroom. Using video and filmmaking to communicate information in the classroom is not new, as academics have explored such media as aids to writing since the 1970s, following the popularity of news broadcasting in the 1950s. In the 21st Century, teaching students video composition and digital rhetoric in an era where a platform such as YouTube has made it easier to share information to a large audience. The freshman college composition classroom should provide the tools …
