Parody And Mis-Unda-Stendings In Comics Art World: Bridging The Gap With New Criteria, Yannis Koukoulas

SANE journal: Sequential Art Narrative in Education

The word parody and its many cognates such as appropriation, adaptation, pastiche, travesty, forgery, homage, tribute, swipe, etc., have often been at the centre of fierce debates within the traditional Artworld and various criteria have been proposed for the critical evaluation of visual and literary works. In particular, parody as a dominant practice in postmodern art is a concept that is subject to misunderstandings as to its content and meaning. (When The Dust Settles), Dominique F. Ellis 2025 University of Nebraska-Lincoln

(When The Dust Settles), Dominique F. Ellis

School of Art, Art History, and Design: Theses and Student Creative Work

I use photography to explore absence, where sediment in melting ice helps create a visual record of the ice’s existence. I begin by harvesting ice from nearby Antelope Creek, transporting it to the studio, and placing it on photo-sensitive paper or film. The natural traces of dust frozen in the water remain visible on the surfaces after the ice melts. Ice thus becomes an entropic medium to index, translate, and record what is left behind when the ice melts, water evaporates, and floods subside in the midst of drought conditions.

I have developed two techniques, cryogrammetry and cryography, to visualize …

Weaving Freedom: A Sustainable And Autonomous Approach To Community Development In Rural Argentina, Caroline Johnson 2025 Utah State University

Weaving Freedom: A Sustainable And Autonomous Approach To Community Development In Rural Argentina, Caroline Johnson

Student Research Symposium

AWANAY is a boutique weaving company. AWANAY’s mission is to support dignity and provide continuous opportunity for rural weavers. The project aligns with this mission for community-centered development in rural regions.

Home to AWANAY’s skilled artisans, Blanca Pozo, Argentina faces environmental pressures, including extreme heat, flooding, and limited access to electricity and fresh water. Drawing on the history of Argentine architecture and global sustainable design principles, this project proposes solutions tailored to the local climate and culture. Through this approach, this design meets immediate challenges and fosters resilience and prosperity for generations of weavers to come.

Kosher Kitchens: A Balance Of Faith And Function, Kirra McEntire 2025 Utah State University

Kosher Kitchens: A Balance Of Faith And Function, Kirra Mcentire

Student Research Symposium

Jewish dietary regulations (kashrut) are followed as a religious practice derived from the Torah, teaching what food one can eat and how to prepare it. The customs require the separation of meat and dairy, the consumption only of specific beasts, and the adherence of ritual slaughter (shechita). Being kosher is a way in which Jewish individuals can be spiritually trained and obey God's commandments while generating a sense of sanctity within daily life.

Aside from religious significance, keeping kosher also emphasizes ethical eating and cultural heritage. The practice promotes humane treatment of animals, cleanliness in food handling, and enriching Jewish …
