I designed this poster for the annual Chalk the Block event which will hopefully take place in October of 2020, as it has the past 10 years, in downtown El Paso. For the art vendors component of the event, I organize a group of students from my 'Graphic Design 4: Typography' class at The University of Texas at El Paso. Their posters are judged and selected to be on sale in a downtown outdoor booth for the weekend event. All proceeds from the sale of the posters go directly to the student designers.

I was asked by the women of the C.L. Sonnichsen Special Collections Department of The University of Texas at El Paso Library to design this cover for El Paso Women's History Coloring Book Cover, Volume 2, A Women's Sufrage Centennial Project. The coloring book will soon be distributed to schools and libraries around the city of El Paso. During this process, I learned that the colors of the U.S. women’s suffrage movement were white, purple, and gold!

I designed this cross stitch with French knots in response to the #StayHome mandate at the start of the Corona Virus pandemic hitting my city around the middle of March, 2020. Using graph paper and Adobe Illustrator, I designed the layout that I later implemented on 14-count Aida cloth. The point of using an age-old craft technique for this poster is due to how much time counted cross stitch takes, something that staying home with nowhere to go makes possible. Its title is a spoof of communication thinker Marshall McCluhan's famous phrase, "the medium is the message" introduced in his …

Currently my work consists of designing characters from the ground up and slowly turning them into a form of entertainment for people to watch. My work creates happiness, joy, and a new sense of escape from everyday life. From backgrounds to small details of a storyline, I hone in on the details of the characters personalities and their emotions to keep the story and characters consistent. Seeds of Doubt is a two-dimensional (2D) animated film that explores how anxiety can stifle personal growth. The film demonstrates how accepting and coping with this anxiety can help you return to a place of calm and allow you to blossom. Roma, a young witch, struggles to use her magic to successfully make her crops grow. Her lack of confidence leaves her stuck inside the greenhouse until she is ready to move on to the tomato fields outside. She must first re-center herself and overcome her self-doubt before it consumes her completely. This idea is sourced largely from my own …

My work addresses the importance of self-identity within the Black culture of the United States of America through the depiction of an African American boy who must look into himself to overcome a difficult bullying situation. Animation as a medium is an ideal tool for interrogating the Western perspective of identity through cinematic storytelling. Using established animation methods, I created a visual narrative to portray the impact self-identity has on an individual's actions in certain social conditions. Noah’S Ark And Burning Sodom: Woodcuts In The Psu Codex Fasciculus Temporum, Amber L. Shrewsbury

Fasciculus Temporum

Early printed books were illustrated by means of woodcut block illustrations. These illustrations frequently depicted well-known biblical events or stories and cities, and the woodcuts were frequently reused, sometimes within the same edition.

The focus of this paper is two woodcut illustrations in PSU’s 1490 edition of Werner Rolewinck’s Fasciculus temporum: Noah’s Ark and the destruction of Sodom. Comparisons are made between these two illustrations and relevant woodcuts in other editions of the Fasciculus temporum, as well as those found in a 1493 edition of the Nuremberg Chronicle by Hartmann Schedel.

Special Collections

In 2020, LSU Libraries Special Collections presented the exhibition “Louisiana’s Natural Treasure: Margaret Stones, Botanical Artist” at Hill Memorial Library, featuring selected original watercolor paintings and archival materials related to the Native Flora of Louisiana project.

A native of Australia, Margaret Stones (1920-2018) achieved an acclaimed international career that spanned three continents. Commissioned by LSU and funded by private donations, more than 200 watercolor drawings of Louisiana plants produced by Stones during the 1970s and 1980s are among the most treasured holdings of LSU Libraries Special Collections.

The Native Flora of Louisiana project was grounded in a long historical tradition …
