The Knowledge-Based Analysis On Medium Resolution Images Of Remote Sensing To Extraction Information Land Use Type Scs-Cn, The Case Study On Grompol Watershed, Puguh Dwi Raharjo, Totok Gunawan, Mohammad Pramono Hadi

Makara Journal of Technology

Remote sensing imagery Landsat-8 is one image that has a good temporal resolution; in addition to the availability of data, this image can be obtained free of charge. Land cover type SCS-CN is part of a unit of land that affects runoff. The use of medium resolution imagery in reducing the SCS-CN land use type is considered relatively difficult, and it yields less good accuracy. Limitations on multispectral classification only rely on facts derived from spectral reflection, so that the two data are the same since different characteristic results are not so good. This study aims to determine the accuracy …

Characterization Of Cfs Framed Diaphragm Behavior, American Iron and Steel Institute 2016 Missouri University of Science and Technology

Characterization Of Cfs Framed Diaphragm Behavior, American Iron And Steel Institute

American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) Specifications, Standards, Manuals and Research Reports (1946 - present)

Knowledge of the in-plane response to loading of cold-formed steel (CFS) framed diaphragm structures is essential for seismic and wind design. The information available specific to diaphragm design in the North American CFS design standards (AISI S240 & S400) is based on limited experimental work and the extrapolation of design methods developed for the wood industry. To address this shortcoming a test-based research project was performed in the Jamieson Structures Laboratory at McGill University focusing on the characterization of the behaviour under in-plane loading of CFS framed - wood sheathed diaphragms. This research was a complementary study to a research …

Lattice Boltzmann Methods For Wind Energy Analysis, Stephen Lloyd Wood 2016 University of Tennessee, Knoxville

Lattice Boltzmann Methods For Wind Energy Analysis, Stephen Lloyd Wood

Doctoral Dissertations

An estimate of the United States wind potential conducted in 2011 found that the energy available at an altitude of 80 meters is approximately triple the wind energy available 50 meters above ground. In 2012, 43% of all new electricity generation installed in the U.S. (13.1 GW) came from wind power. The majority of this power, 79%, comes from large utility scale turbines that are being manufactured at unprecedented sizes. Existing wind plants operate with a capacity factor of only approximately 30%. Measurements have shown that the turbulent wake of a turbine persists for many rotor diameters, inducing increased vibration …

3d Multi-Scale Behavior Of Granular Materials Using Experimental And Numerical Techniques, Andrew Michael Druckrey 2016 University of Tennessee, Knoxville

3d Multi-Scale Behavior Of Granular Materials Using Experimental And Numerical Techniques, Andrew Michael Druckrey

Doctoral Dissertations

Constitutive modeling of granular material behavior has generally been based on global response of laboratory-size specimens or larger models with little understanding of the fundamental mechanics that drive the global response. Many studies have acknowledged the importance of micro-scale and meso-scale mechanics on the constitutive behavior of granular materials. However, much knowledge is still missing to develop and improve robust micromechanical constitutive models. The research in this dissertation contributes to this knowledge gap for many potential applications using novel experimental techniques to investigate the three-dimensional (3D) behavior of granular materials. Critical micromechanics measurements at multiple scales are investigated by combining …

Mechanical And Thermal Evaluation Of Different Types Of Pcm-Concrete Composite Panels, Dervilla Niall, Oliver Kinnane, Roger West, Sarah Mccormack

Conference papers

ABSTRACT: Thermal mass indicates the ability of a material to store and release heat and is a function of the heat storage capacity of a material. The thermal mass of construction materials can be used to reduce the energy required for heating and cooling buildings. The heat storage capacity of concrete can be increased by incorporating phase change materials (PCMs) into the concrete and hence providing additional latent heat storage capacity. Research was carried out to compare the thermal behaviour of two different types of PCM/concrete composite panels. The first type of panel was formed by adding microencapsulated paraffin to …

Integration Of Structural Health Monitoring And Intelligent Transportation Systems For Bridge Condition Assessment: Current Status And Future Direction, Sakib Mahmud Khan, Sez Atamturktur, Mashrur Chowdhury, Mizanur Rahman 2016 Clemson University

Integration Of Structural Health Monitoring And Intelligent Transportation Systems For Bridge Condition Assessment: Current Status And Future Direction, Sakib Mahmud Khan, Sez Atamturktur, Mashrur Chowdhury, Mizanur Rahman

Publications

Recent catastrophic bridge failures clearly indicate the urgent need for improving interval-based bridge inspection procedures that are qualitative and subjective in nature. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) can mitigate the deficiencies of interval-based inspection techniques and provide real-time diagnostic information regarding the bridge structural health. SHM is not flawless however; the variability in the vehicle characteristics and traffic operational conditions makes it prone to false diagnosis. Recent advancements in the integration of SHM with intelligent transportation systems (ITS) demonstrate the successful use of ITS devices (e.g., traffic cameras, traffic detectors) in the analysis of bridge responses to multimodal traffic with varying …

Evaluating The Two-Stage Ditch As A New Best Management Practice, Andi Hodaj 2016 Purdue University

Evaluating The Two-Stage Ditch As A New Best Management Practice, Andi Hodaj

Open Access Dissertations

A two-stage ditch involves modifications of a traditional drainage ditch to resemble more the features of a natural stream. The idea is to create or simulate extended benches on both sides of the ditch that would develop naturally over a period of time in a stream because of geomorphological processes. Previous research in Indiana and Ohio has shown that two-stage ditches offer the potential to reduce sediment load and extend the interaction time between water and vegetation on the benches allowing larger uptake of nutrients from the vegetation on the extended benches, and increasing the denitrification rates in the bench …

Algorithms For Lidar Based Traffic Tracking: Development And Demonstration, Vamsi K. Bandaru 2016 Purdue University

Algorithms For Lidar Based Traffic Tracking: Development And Demonstration, Vamsi K. Bandaru

Open Access Theses

The current state of the art of traffic tracking is based on the use of video, and requires extensive manual intervention for it to work, including hours of painstaking human examination of videos frame by frame which also make the acquisition of data extremely expensive. Fundamentally, this is because we do not have observability of the actual scene from a camera which captures a 2D projection of the 3D world. Even if video were to be automated, it would involve such algorithms as RANSACK for outlier elimination while matching features across frames or across multiple cameras. This results in algorithms …
