Digital repositories most often collect traditional materials, such as theses, articles and images that do not require unique workflows or practices. While these types of items are common, repositories can also expect to encounter non-traditional materials that can challenge the knowledge and experience of the repository manager. Whether because of new file formats, visual effects or certain aspects of performance art, there are certain items that require unique expertise and innovative design. This is a case study of the implementation of an institutional repository (IR). It is written for academic librarians who are looking for a primer on how to create an IR for their campus. Based upon Marshall University’s research and experience with this process, we present the essential elements needed to construct an institutional repository. ERAU Scholarly Commons, the institutional repository of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), debuted to little fanfare but great hope on May 30, 2013. The implementation team had worked for five months with bepress, the vendor, to construct a home page that reflects the unique aerospace concentration of the university. From the outset, Scholarly Commons has proven to be an important university resource for faculty and student research as well as for the creation of new journals and the home of conferences and events. The need for a tailored textbook for a distance class of PhD nursing students led to a collaboration between a College of Nursing faculty member and librarians from academic and health sciences libraries. The partnership incorporated new and existing library services in the “Research with Diverse Populations” class. Librarians provided curriculum support services and facilitated the creation of an eTextbook authored by class members. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine recent trends that have affected University Presses. The increased reliance on digital resources and fiscal constraints within higher education has forced University Presses to re-evaluate their position with the scholarly communication system. Responses include an increased focus on partnerships, new forms of publication, changing business models, and better meeting customers’ needs.

Design/Methodology/Approach – The authors have reviewed publications on University Presses from the last five years and added their viewpoints on current and future trends.

Unlike traditional scholarly journals, Wikipedia and open access journals do not ask contributors to sign away their rights. Contributors to these venues retain the right to copy, distribute, and reuse their own words and works. This presentation takes a careful look at the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (used by Wikipedia) and the Creative Commons Attribution License (used by many open access publishers).

We present an analysis of the articles published in the Journal of Management Studiessince its inception to assess to what extent JMS has: maintained its leading international ranking; maintained its founding mission as a broad based management journal; and remained a broad based management journal compared to other general management journals. In terms of its impact factor and citations despite reaching a low point in 2001, we find that JMS today ranks higher than it has ever done throughout its 50‐year history. This slideshow covers different ways of answering the question “Why open access?” It reviews the knee-jerk reactions many people have when they hear about open access, describes the many benefits of open access, invokes @openaccesshulk’s strategy of SMASH, and discusses what arguments work best with different populations (students, faculty, administrators, etc.). Finally, it addresses why librarians should try to talk about open access without resorting to constant use of the term “open access” and describes a few ways to sneak open access advocacy into other conversations.
