Abstract

The study investigated the awareness and use of Big Data management systems by lecturers in universities in Rivers State. The population comprised of lecturers in Three (3) public universities in Rivers State namely; University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State University and Ignatius Ajuru University of education. A structured online questionnaire was used to gather the data. 152 online responses were received, but 144 were useful for the analysis. Information was sought on the level of collaboration between academic libraries and known key players championing the prevention and control of COVID-19, the activities carried out in compliance with set protocols, information services offered, and the challenges faced. Results showed moderate level of collaboration and very limited direct synergistic interaction with public health groups, while they provided patrons with an avenue to source updates from library websites. There was high compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines; however, there was no specialized COVID-19 information service desk for patrons' inquiries. Bangladesh is trying to achieve Smart Bangladesh Vision 2041 to put the country on a new, sustainable path of growth while also serving as a role model for other developing nations. With that goal in mind, the government is trying to introduce e-governance services in every government sector. This study looks into user perspectives, obstacles, and suggestions for offering e-governance services through libraries and information centers. A proposed e-governance service delivery model for public libraries is also presented in this paper.

This study examined the application of social media (SM) in marketing library resources and services at Kyambogo University Library (KYUL). The study adopted a mixed method utilizing both quantitative and qualitative research approaches. The study revealed that: KYUL uses WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to market its resources and services. Other channels were Websites, emails, displays of new information resources, flyers, newsletters, user orientations, posters, and exhibitions. SM is considered a vital library marketing platform. However, the respondents raised various impediments to successful SM at KYUL. Based on the findings the study made conclusions and recommendations.

This study analyzes the citations of Masters Theses in Library and Information Science of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria submitted from 2011 to 2018 with a view to determining the format and age of materials used and most frequently cited journals. The document checklists were used for data collections and the citations were extracted from the title pages and reference lists of each of the theses. Data obtained from 48 Masters Theses were examined. The paper examined the ICT needs and skills requirement for reference services in the post COVID era.
