Unpacking Architectural Drawing Literacy: A Critical Pedagogy Approach To Architecture Collections, Shima Hosseininasab, Virginia Ferris, Burak Erdim
Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies
This paper explores using architectural drawings as primary sources in instruction sessions at the North Carolina State University Libraries’ Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) with a critical pedagogy approach. Architectural collections are among the SCRC’s most frequently used materials, yet effective engagement with these unique resources requires specialized knowledge that is often lacking among teaching librarians and faculty, who excel in artifactual literacy and archival practices. The research addresses this gap by arguing that additional guidance in architectural history and technical details is necessary to improve teaching methods and enhance student interpretation of architectural drawings. Using a 200-level architecture class …

Something has felt different these past few weeks.
Maybe you’ve felt it too.
People seem happier.
My social media feed isn’t dominated by politics, wars, or bad news. Instead, it’s filled with strangers hugging after goals, families gathering around giant screens, children wearing jerseys from countries they’ve never visited, and fans dancing together in the streets. "

Policy for Graduate Thesis-Adjacent Series in Digital Commons
Graduate programs at Wayne State are increasingly requiring terminal projects that are not traditional theses or dissertations. These outputs require series in Digital Commons @ Wayne State that operate outside the established thesis/dissertation protocol in the repository. For the purpose of this policy, these will be referred to as Capstone series.
Content Guidelines for Digital Commons @ Wayne State require that student work is accepted on a case-by-case basis, determined by repository administrators. Because Capstone series are negotiated between the program and the repository administrator, they meet this requirement. and deposits to …

Assessment Of Information Literacy Instruction In Reference: Applying Vanscoy’S Conceptual And Procedural Framework In Practice, Vanessa Arce
Publications and Research
The instructional aspect of reference work has long been acknowledged, especially in academic libraries. The current RUSA guidelines include helping users develop information literacy as a goal of reference. In this context, investigating the presence and nature of information literacy instruction can be used to assess the quality of reference services. This study applied Amy VanScoy’s conceptual/procedural framework for point-of-need instruction to a sample of chat reference transcripts at Lehman College, City University of New York. One of the assessment’s goals was to determine the prevalence of instruction and type of knowledge addressed in reference interactions. Another goal was to …

From Theory To Practice Implementing A Mission, Vision, And Values Statement To Support Change In An Academic Library Liaison Program, Patricia Fiorillo, Kristy Padron
Faculty Scholarship
Academic library liaison programs historically varied in their functions and adapted to their organizational needs and priorities. This case study examines the integration of a mission, vision, and values statement into the liaison program at Florida Atlantic University Libraries. Originating from business and organizational theories, these statements have been adopted by nonprofit organizations, including academic libraries, to guide administrative processes and services. The study highlights a re-visioning of an established liaison program during a period of transition. This fostered a shared understanding of the library’s priorities and documented its goals and objectives. This alignment was particularly crucial as Florida Atlantic …
