As the development of digital libraries increases, the growth has been accompanied by a refinement of evaluation criteria and methods. Evaluators are increasingly aware that the context of digital library usage (the social, cultural, academic, and institutional environments of the users) is an essential consideration of effective assessment. This article evaluates the Perseus Digital Library through the needs and objectives of a specific learning community – those engaged in theological research. Language Documentation In The Aftermath Of The 2015 Nepal Earthquakes: A Guide To Two Archives And A Web Exhibit, Kristine A. Hildebrandt, Tanner Burge-Beckley, Jacob Sebok

SIUE Faculty Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity

We describe two institutionally related archives and an online exhibit representing a set of Tibeto-Burman languages of Nepal. These archives and exhibit were built to house materials resulting from documentation of twelve Tibeto-Burman languages in the aftermath of the 2015 Nepal earthquakes. This account includes a detailed discussion of the different materials recorded, and how they were prepared for the collections. This account also provides a comparison of the two different types of archives, the different but complementary functions they serve, and a discussion of the role that online exhibits can play in the context of language documentation archives.

This issue of Library Technology Reports (vol. 55, no. 8), “Blockchain in Libraries,” examines the application of blockchain in libraries. Blockchain technology has the ability to transform how libraries provide services and organize information. To date, most of these applications are still in the conceptual stage. However, sooner or later, development and implementation will follow. This report is intended to provide a primer on the technology and some thought starters. Over eleven hundred libraries across the United States and its territories participate in the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) by providing public access to free government resources. In the last decade, there has been a significant shift as many government publications are being published only electronically. At the same time, several older physical collections are being digitized and made available online. This shift has caused many FDLP libraries to weed their older physical government document collections and increase their electronic holdings.

Hashtag Marbled Monday: A Webometric Analysis Of Academic Special Collections Outreach On Instagram, Carla Fulgham

This study used webometric analysis to assess the most successful strategies for engaging Instagram users in academic special collections. Data were collected from five academic special collections Instagram accounts to analyze their activity during the month of April 2018. Data considered in the study include average number of likes per post, average number of hashtags per post, and most common hashtags and content. The results of this analysis may serve as a recommendation for best practices for academic special collections interested in, or already using Instagram as a platform, to engage students and other Instagram users in their collections.
