Hosting Inspec On Engineering Village Or Web Science: A Case Study In Comparing Database Platforms, Jay Thomas Mcallister Iii, Nancy Stephanie Diaz

Purpose – As library budgets continue to constrict, librarians will need to become more familiar with comparing database host platforms. This paper aims to compare Inspec on Elsevier’s Engineering Village (EV) and Clarivate’s Web of Science (WOS) from a novice user experience. The main objectives are to identify some R1 institutions that subscribe to Inspec and highlight some of the key differences between the two platforms. Collaborative Librarianship

Systemwide or multi-campus licenses provide many benefits such as favorable pricing, access to an expanded array of resources for all participants, and streamlined licensing. They also usually involve cost sharing among participating campuses. The licensing process can be labor-intensive and time-consuming. Successful collaboration among participants is essential in reaching consensus. In the past, the University of California (UC) libraries employed many cost models, and the California Digital Library (CDL) applied them for CDL-licensed subscriptions, both new licenses and renewals. Scraping Bepress: Downloading Dissertations For Preservation, Stephen Zweibel

This article will describe our process developing a script to automate downloading of documents and secondary materials from our library’s BePress repository. Our objective was to collect the full archive of dissertations and associated files from our repository into a local disk for potential future applications and to build out a preservation system.

Unlike at some institutions, our students submit directly into BePress, so we did not have a separate repository of the files; and the backup of BePress content that we had access to was not in an ideal format (for example, it included “withdrawn” items and did not …

Citation Analysis Of Mathematics And Statistics Dissertations And Theses From The University At Albany, Kathleen H. Flynn

University Libraries Faculty Scholarship

This study analyzed dissertations and theses completed from 2009-2019 in the Mathematics and Statistics department at the University at Albany to investigate resource type, citation age, publishers, and journal title dispersion. Students cited journal articles 57.0% of the time, while books and book chapters combined accounted for 30.5% of the citations. Publisher usage fit the Pareto Distribution; however, there was a high journal title dispersion. Preprints represented 4.6% of the citations, an increase from previous studies. The amount of graduate student citation quality issues and preprint citations shows a need for instruction and discussions in these areas.
