Winthrop University has an extensive archives and special collections that has never been cataloged. Digital Commons @ Winthrop officially launched in January 2016 and our archives staff worked diligently to add items to our repository. The question then became how can we integrate this work in to our ILS system. Seeing a need for action but without the time or manpower to individually catalog these collections we turned to the Digital Collection Gateway. Altova MapForce is an intuitive graphical mapping tool for manipulating and converting any structured data, including OAI-PMH XML, into any scheme without specialized knowledge of XML or XSLT. With Altova MapForce, repository managers who lack dedicated XML programming or development support can streamline creation of XML stylesheets and simplify XML conversions. During this session, we will look specifically at crosswalking bepress journal metadata to Crossref Deposit and DOAJ Native XML.

Recommendation #5 in the CFLA-FCAB Truth & Reconciliation Report advises that libraries address the “structural biases in existing schemes of knowledge organization and information retrieval arising from colonialism.” It suggests that one way to do this is by “integrating Indigenous epistemologies into cataloguing praxis and knowledge management.” This requires conversations and collaborations, learning and unlearning. In this panel, F. Tim Knight and Sharon Farnel will discuss their paths toward understanding the inherent differences that exist between Western and indigenous approaches to knowledge, and explore what decolonization means in the context of library resource description.

This study was designed to investigate the effect of just-in time on the academic achievement and interest of students offering cataloguing and classification course in Anambra State. In other to effectively carry out the study, it adopted the quasi experimental design particularly the pretest and posttest non-equivalent control group. The Discovery and User Experience Team conducted an open-ended survey designed to gather information about how Primo works within the context of the daily work of patron-centered staff and librarians. We felt that this information and feedback was important because it provided the only avenue in which reference and instruction librarians could give direct input to the Alliance about how to improve our current discovery interface. The survey asked reference and instruction librarians about their specific experiences with Primo with the goal of identifying ways that the Discovery and User Experience Team could better support these users.

A team of Bryant University Librarians are participating in the EXCITE Transformation for Libraries program through the Connecticut State Library. We conducted a series of structured group and one-on-one conversations with students, faculty, and staff in order to learn about how they think and feel about teamwork, the library, and collaboration at the library. We found that students in particular were far more responsive to community sessions than in taking surveys.

Designing the new Primo for ease of use for discovery and delivery for 30,000 students was the tantamount motivation for our new Primo launch, fall term 2016. Background: While more common in university settings, institutional repositories (IR) have a place within hospitals and healthcare systems too, though the challenges in creating them may be different. This paper looks at the development of a Digital Commons institutional repository at Providence St. Joseph Health. The authors present the necessary steps for a successful initiative beginning with the planning process and building from there. Highlighted are some of the different challenges faced in non-academic settings; considerations when selecting a platform and designing and structure; and recommendations for doing outreach and promotion to unique user groups.

Background: In the development of a new institutional repository, library staff at a large health system were faced with building an organizational structure that would be meaningful to both internal and external users. The health system context meant unique challenges designing a taxonomy that supported end users as well as institutional goals and branding. Health systems have unique user needs for specialized collections and organizational schemes.
