Batch Cataloging At Jmu: A Framework And Four Projects, Rebecca B. French 2023 James Madison University

Batch Cataloging At Jmu: A Framework And Four Projects, Rebecca B. French

Libraries

Many libraries have uncataloged collections or backlogs which could benefit from batch processing, but little guidance exists on how to conceptualize and plan such a project. I will share a framework I developed which categorizes types of batch cataloging projects and outlines the steps involved. I will also describe four projects we've done at JMU to illustrate how the framework can be applied to design a variety of metadata workflows.

Beyond Documentation: Using Dynamic Online Tools For Staff Training & Support, Diana Simpson, Kelsey Geller

University Libraries Workshops and Presentations

Onboarding and training new staff can be time consuming to plan, organize, and execute. When USM’s Technical Services department recently experienced a period of reorganization and staff turnover, it meant that there were fewer resources at hand to devote to training newly hired staff and bringing them up to speed on work processes. To help alleviate the workload of planning and executing training, we began implementing the use of various dynamic and interactive online tools, including a Kanban task manager, virtual meetings, instant messaging software, and shared documents. Incorporating this toolbox of web-based resources provided flexibility in delivering initial training …

Creating An Inclusive Metadata Policy, Nicole Lewis, Jeremy Myntti

Faculty Publications

The BYU Library is creating an Inclusive Metadata Policy for metadata creators to use when creating and remediating descriptions to be more inclusive. Accompanying the policy is a companion document with recommendations and examples, including links to many external resources. In addition to working with stakeholders in the library to develop the policy, we consulted with the University’s Office of Belonging. This presentation describes the process we used to undertake the creation of the library policy and recommendations document.

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Digital libraries are established to meet the demands of students who are ever in need of information which are current, updated and available at a go, to satisfy their academic needs. However, in spite of the benefits accrued to the use of digital library, postgraduate students, hardly make meaningful use of digital libraries probably because of lack required information which could be made available if digital libraries collaborate with other digital libraries. The study therefore investigates library cooperation and use of digital library by postgraduate students in selected universities in South-west, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. …

The Scholarship Of Rock Music: Knowledge Mapping Through Bibliography, Monica Berger 2023 CUNY New York City College of Technology

The Scholarship Of Rock Music: Knowledge Mapping Through Bibliography, Monica Berger

Publications and Research

Scholarship on rock and popular music has grown dramatically in volume and methodological variety and complexity including extensive use of interdisciplinary approaches. There currently is no comprehensive resource for scholars and educators to explore monographic scholarly literature on rock. I will showcase a new annotated bibliography, with a focus on disciplinarity and methodology, which provides a lens into how this scholarly discourse has evolved. This bibliography also makes visible broader trends regarding research topics in rock and popular music. This project will be a resource to academics and other authors, faculty designing and updating curricula, and librarians interested in building …

Library Services Publications

How many linked data conference sessions have you attended where the benefits of linked data to libraries were discussed, with the ultimate goal of leading to better visibility for libraries? These sessions likely mentioned research initiatives at large, well-resourced institutions such as the Library of Congress and OCLC Research. But then the post-conference reality sets in and linked data applications in the real world seem almost unattainable. Join us to learn about some of the more approachable and practical implementations of linked data in libraries. We have discovered that one of the best ways to learn about the impact of …
