Coefficient Estimates For General Subclasses Of $M$-Foldsymmetric Analytic Bi-Univalent Functions, SERAP BULUT 2016 TÜBİTAK

Coefficient Estimates For General Subclasses Of $M$-Foldsymmetric Analytic Bi-Univalent Functions, Serap Bulut

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this work, we introduce and investigate two new subclasses of the bi-univalent functions in which both $f$ and $f^{-1}$ are $ m$-fold symmetric analytic functions. For functions in each of the subclasses introduced in this paper, we obtain the coefficient bounds for $ \left\vert a_{m+1}\right\vert $ and $\left\vert a_{2m+1}\right\vert .$

Guided by the conceptual framework of constructivism, the purpose of this case study was to examine 8, Grade 8 math teachers' perceptions of factors contributing to mathematical performance gap in their African American students and what instructional strategies can be used to help reduce the achievement gap in southwest Georgia. Data were obtained through interviews and classroom observations and were coded and analyzed using typological analysis, followed by inductive analysis. The results of the data revealed teachers perceived recruiting and retaining African American teachers and …

Understanding The Relationships Among Students' Goal Orientations, Self-Efficacy, Anxiety, And Accelerated Academic Success In The Redesign Of Developmental Mathematics, Kelly Ann Hogan 2016 Walden University

Understanding The Relationships Among Students' Goal Orientations, Self-Efficacy, Anxiety, And Accelerated Academic Success In The Redesign Of Developmental Mathematics, Kelly Ann Hogan

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The low success rates of increasing numbers of underprepared students taking developmental mathematics classes 'often minority and economically disadvantaged' are challenging community colleges across the United States. These students, who must start in the lowest levels of precollege mathematics courses, are unlikely to pass the first course and earn a credential. Using a mastery goal orientation theoretical framework, a quantitative, survey research design was used to ascertain any correlations between students' goal orientations, self-efficacy, test anxiety, and success in a new model of learning. Survey data were used to answer 3 research questions: (a) the relationship between success and students' …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The local problem that drove this study is that a high school in an upper middle class suburban city in Pennsylvania wants to improve its student scores on its end-of-course Algebra 1 Keystone Exam. The purpose of this study was to conduct a quantitative, quasi-experimental assessment of an online high school mathematics remediation program to determine if the remediation program was successful in its endeavor to remediate students. This research study, informed by the self-efficacy and the behaviorist learning theories, attempted to determine whether students who (a) scored below proficient on the May algebra exam and were placed in the …

Combining Interval And Probabilistic Uncertainty In Engineering Applications, Andrew Martin Pownuk 2016 University of Texas at El Paso

Combining Interval And Probabilistic Uncertainty In Engineering Applications, Andrew Martin Pownuk

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

In many practical application, we process measurement results and expert estimates. Measurements and expert estimates are never absolutely accurate, their result are slightly different from the actual (unknown) values of the corresponding quantities. It is therefore desirable to analyze how this measurement and estimation inaccuracy affects the results of data processing. There exist numerous methods for estimating the accuracy of the results of data processing under different models of measurement and estimation inaccuracies: probabilistic, interval, and fuzzy. To be useful in engineering applications, these methods should provide accurate estimate for the resulting uncertainty, should not take too much computation time, …

Special Type Of Fixed Points Of Mod Matrix Operators, Florentin Smarandache, W.B. Vasantha Kandasamy, K. Ilanthenral

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

In this book authors for the first time introduce a special type of fixed points using MOD square matrix operators. These special type of fixed points are different from the usual classical fixed points. A study of this is carried out in this book. Several interesting properties are developed in this regard. The notion of these fixed points find many applications in the mathematical models which are dealt systematically by the authors in the forth coming books. These special type of fixed points or special realized limit cycles are always guaranteed as we use only MOD matrices as operators with …

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

In this book authors for the first time give several types of problems on MOD structures happens to be an interesting field of study as it makes the whole 4 quadrant plane into a single quadrant plane and the infinite line into a half closed open interval. So study in this direction will certainly yield several interesting results. The law of distributivity is not true. Further the MOD function in general do not obey all the laws of integration or differentiation. Likewise MOD polynomials in general do not satisfy the basic properties of polynomials like its roots etc. Thus over …

Zadeh introduced the degree of membership/truth (t) in 1965 and defined the fuzzy set. Atanassov introduced the degree of nonmembership/ falsehood (f) in 1986 and defined the intuitionistic fuzzy set. Smarandache introduced the degree of indeterminacy/ neutrality (i) as independent component in 1995 (published in 1998) and defined the neutrosophic set on three components (t, i, f) = (truth, indeterminacy, falsehood): http://fs.gallup.unm.edu/FlorentinSmarandache.htm Etymology. The words “neutrosophy” and “neutrosophic” were coined/ invented by F. Smarandache in his 1998 book. Neutrosophy: A branch of philosophy, introduced by F. Welcome into my scientific lab! My lab[oratory] is a virtual facility with noncontrolled conditions in which I mostly perform scientific meditation and chats: a nest of ideas (nidus idearum, in Latin). I called the jottings herein scilogs (truncations of the words scientific, and gr. Λόγος – appealing rather to its original meanings "ground", "opinion", "expectation"), combining the welly of both science and informal (via internet) talks (in English, French, and Romanian). In this first books of scilogs collected from my nest of ideas, one may find new and old questions and solutions, some of them already put at work, others …

The science’s function is realizing the natural world, developing our society in coordination with natural laws and the mathematics provides the quantitative tool and method for solving problems helping with that understanding. Generally, understanding a natural thing by mathematical ways or means to other sciences are respectively establishing mathematical model on typical characters of it with analysis first, and then forecasting its behaviors, and finally, directing human beings for hold on its essence by that model.

Constructs such as fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration have been accepted as integral components of creativity. In this chapter, the authors discuss affect (Leder GC, Pehkonen E, Törner G (eds), Beliefs: a hidden variable in mathematics education? Kluwer Academic Publishers, Dordrecht, 2002; McLeod DB, J Res Math Educ 25:637–647, 1994; McLeod DB, Adams VM, Affect and mathematical problem solving: a new perspective. Springer, New York, 1989) as it relates to the production of creative outcomes in mathematical problem solving episodes. The saliency of affect in creativity cannot be underestimated, as problem solvers require an appropriate state of mind in order …

Unequal Edge Inclusion Probabilities In Link-Tracing Network Sampling With Implications For Respondent-Driven Sampling, Miles Q. Ott, Krista J. Gile 2016 Augsburg College

Unequal Edge Inclusion Probabilities In Link-Tracing Network Sampling With Implications For Respondent-Driven Sampling, Miles Q. Ott, Krista J. Gile

Statistical and Data Sciences: Faculty Publications

Respondent-Driven Sampling (RDS) is a widely adopted linktracing sampling design used to draw valid statistical inference from samples of populations for which there is no available sampling frame. RDS estimators rely upon the assumption that each edge (representing a relationship between two individuals) in the underlying network has an equal probability of being sampled. We show that this assumption is violated in even the simplest cases, and that RDS estimators are sensitive to the violation of this assumption.

Number Knowledge And Error Types Of Elementary Portuguese Students: Implications For Instruction, Silvana Watson, Sharon Judge, João Lopes, Célia Oliveira, Ana Catarina Jesus

Communication Disorders & Special Education Faculty Publications

In the present study, we examined number knowledge skills of 697 Portuguese elementary students from first to fourth grade. Students completed three number knowledge tasks: 1) translating numbers into words, 2) symbolic magnitude (i.e., number comparison), and 3) decomposing numbers. We evaluated students’ answers by means of error analysis using a three-category coding system adopted from specific error types were computed by grade level. Results showed that there were significant differences among grades and that the prerequisite linguistic error type (i.e., pre linguistic rules or principles of the cardinal number system), particularly in the magnitude tasks, significantly contributed to students’ …

Polytopes Of Large Rank For Psl(4,Q), Peter A. Brooksbank, Dimitri Leemans 2016 Bucknell University

Polytopes Of Large Rank For Psl(4,Q), Peter A. Brooksbank, Dimitri Leemans

Faculty Journal Articles

This paper examines abstract regular polytopes whose automorphism group is the projective special linear group PSL(4,q). For q odd we show that polytopes of rank 4 exist by explicitly constructing PSL(4,q) as a string C-group of that rank. On the other hand, we show that no abstract regular polytope exists whose group of automorphisms is PSL(4,2k).

Monte Carlo Approx. Methods For Stochastic Optimization, John Fowler 2016 Claremont Colleges

Monte Carlo Approx. Methods For Stochastic Optimization, John Fowler

Pomona Senior Theses

This thesis provides an overview of stochastic optimization (SP) problems and looks at how the Sample Average Approximation (SAA) method is used to solve them. We review several applications of this problem-solving technique that have been published in papers over the last few years. The number and variety of the examples should give an indication of the usefulness of this technique. The examples also provide opportunities to discuss important aspects of SPs and the SAA method including model assumptions, optimality gaps, the use of deterministic methods for finite sample sizes, and the accelerated Benders decomposition algorithm. We also give a …

Neutrosophic Overset, Neutrosophic Underset, And Neutrosophic Offset. Similarly For Neutrosophic Over-/Under-/Off- Logic, Probability, And Statistics, Florentin Smarandache

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

Neutrosophic Over-/Under-/Off-Set and -Logic were defined for the first time by Smarandache in 1995 and published in 2007. They are totally different from other sets/logics/probabilities.

He extended the neutrosophic set respectively to Neutrosophic Overset {when some neutrosophic component is > 1}, Neutrosophic Underset {when some neutrosophic component is < 0}, and to Neutrosophic Offset {when some neutrosophic components are off the interval [0, 1], i.e. some neutrosophic component > 1 and other neutrosophic component < 0}.

This is no surprise with respect to the classical fuzzy set/logic, intuitionistic fuzzy set/logic, or classical/imprecise probability, where the values are not allowed outside the interval [0, 1], since our real-world has …
