This article focuses on the clustering problem based on Dirichlet process (DP) mixtures. To model both time invariant and temporal patterns, different from other existing clustering methods, the proposed semi-parametric model is flexible in that both the common and unique patterns are taken into account simultaneously. Furthermore, by jointly clustering subjects and the associated variables, the intrinsic complex shared patterns among subjects and among variables are expected to be captured. The number of clusters and cluster assignments are directly inferred with the use of DP. Simulation studies illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. An application to wheal size data …

In this paper we provide an explicit general construction of higher homotopy operations in model categories, which include classical examples such as (long) Toda brackets and (iterated) Massey products, but also cover unpointed operations not usually considered in this context. We show how such operations, thought of as obstructions to rectifying a homotopy-commutative diagram, can be defined in terms of a double induction, yielding intermediate obstructions as well.

Some Results On Partial Difference Sets And Partial Geometries, Eric J. Neubert Jr
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
This thesis shows results on 3 different problems involving partial difference sets (PDS) in abelian groups, and uses PDS to study partial geometries with an abelian Singer group. First, the last two undetermined cases of PDS on abelian groups with k ≤ 100, both of order 216, were shown not to exist. Second, new parameter bounds for k and ∆ were found for PDS on abelian groups of order p^n , p an odd prime, n odd. A parameter search on p^5 in particular was conducted, and only 5 possible such cases remain for p < 250. Lastly, the existence of rigid type partial geometries with an abelian Singer group are examined; existence is left undetermined for 11 cases with α ≤ 200. This final study led to the determination of nonexistence for an infinite class of cases which impose a negative Latin type PDS.

Parameter-Free Outlier Scoring Using Acute Angle Ordered Difference Distance, Pollaton Pumruckthum
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
An anomaly scoring algorithm assigns a score to an instance that provides a large value for an outlier in order to help detecting anomalies within a dataset. In 2013, one of the parameter-free techniques called the order difference distance outlier factor was proposed (OOF). OOF was computed using the ordered difference distance derived from the distance matrix sorted in each row, before calculating the difference. The minimum distance was included to avoid false detection but it also decreased the score of anomalies forming a small cluster. To avoid the use of the minimum distance, the new technique is proposed base …

Numerical Methods For Jump-Extended Cox-Ingersoll-Ross And Constant Elasticity Of Variance Models, Purin Klunklar
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The jump-extended Cox-Ingersoll-Ross and jump-extended constant elasticity of variance models are stochastic differential equations (SDEs) used to forecast interest rates or stock prices. We simulate these SDEs directly by eight numerical methods: Euler Maruyama method, simplified Euler method, jump-adapted Euler method, jumpadapted simplified Euler method, jump-adapted order two weak method, jump-adapted simplified order two weak method, jump-adapted order two derivative free method and jump-adapted simplified order two derivative free method. The transformed approach is also applied with these eight numerical methods. We compare their performance by testing the positivity preserving of numerical solutions and finding their weak orders of convergence …

Stationary Test For First Order Autoregressive Model Subject To Sampling Errors, Weerapat Rattanachadjan
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In 1979, Dickey and Fuller introduced a stationary test on the first order autoregressive model, AR(1), and limitting distribution of the estimator of autoregressive coefficient and the test statistics. The method has been applied to test the stationarity of the first order autoregressive time series model. However, the method has been applied regardless of sampling errors which usually occurs in data collection. autoregressive model subject to sampling errors.

The aim of this paper is to make a proposal for an easy–to–use approach to the evaluation of customer satisfaction in restaurants. In order to provide a reliable way to collect respondents’ real attitudes, an approach based on the use of smaller number of evaluation criteria and interactive questionnaire created in a spreadsheet file is proposed in this paper, whereby an easy-to-understand and simple-touse procedure is proposed for determining weights of criteria. In addition to the said, the proposed approach applies the simplified SERVQUAL-based approach, for which reason a simplified version of the Weighted Sum Method based on the decision …

Medicinal plants are important elements of indigenous medical system that have persisted in developing countries. Many of the botanical chemo-preventions currently used as potent anticancer agents. However, some important anticancer agents are still extracted from plants because they cannot be synthesized chemically on a commercial scale due to their complex structures that often contain several chiral centers. The aim of this study was to test different extracts from the Moringa oleifera leaves. Previous studies have shown potentially antioxidant, antitumor promoter, anticlastogen and anticarcinogen activities both in vitro and in vivo. Emerging evidence indicates that efficacy of Moringa oleifera in cancer …

In this paper, we present the lattice structures of neutrosophic theories. We prove that Zhang-Zhang’s YinYang bipolar fuzzy set is a subclass of the Single-Valued bipolar neutrosophic set. Then we show that the pair structure is a particular case of refined neutrosophy, and the number of types of neutralities (sub-indeterminacies) may be any finite or infinite number.

Neutrosophic set has been derived from a new branch of philosophy, namely Neutrosophy. Neutrosophic set is capable of dealing with uncertainty, indeterminacy and inconsistent information. Neutrosophic set approaches are suitable to modeling problems with uncertainty, indeterminacy and inconsistent information in which human knowledge is necessary, and human evaluation is needed. Neutrosophic set theory was firstly proposed in 1998 by Florentin Smarandache, who also developed the concept of single valued neutrosophic set, oriented towards real world scientific and engineering applications. Since then, the single valued neutrosophic set theory has been extensively studied in books and monographs, the properties of neutrosophic sets …

Procuring Pediatric Vaccines In A Two-Economy Duopoly, Seongeun Lee, Susan E. Martonosi
Scripps Senior Theses
In this work, we aim to present an optimization model for vaccine pricing in a two-economy duopoly. This model observes the price dynamics between a high income country and a low income country that procure vaccinations through PAHO. This model is formulated to provide insights on optimal pricing strategy for PAHO to ultimately increase vaccine accessibility to low income countries. The objective is to satisfy the public demand at the lowest price possible, while providing enough profit for the vaccine manufacturers to stay in business. Using non-linear integer programming, the model results show that cross-subsidization occurs in PAHO vaccine procurement.

Predictive Factors Of Student Mathematics Achievement Decline Between Third And Fifth Grade, Jean E. Salters

Low math achievement among elementary school students is a concern because students who lack a strong early foundation in mathematics may experience difficulty learning in future mathematics classes. Students in 2 rural southeastern school districts demonstrated low math achievement in 5th grade and their scores declined from 3rd to 5th grade. In this quantitative study, teacher-related factors that research has shown to predict student achievement were examined using Bandura's theory of self-efficacy and Ball and McDiarmid's emerging theory of subject matter content knowledge. The research question asked whether the teacher factors, years of teaching experience, hours of professional development in …

We describe the process of adjusting the balance between computerbased learning and peer interaction in a college algebra course. In our first experimental class, students used the adaptive-learning program ALEKS within an emporium-style format. Comparing student performance in the emporium format class with that in a traditional lecture format class, we found an improvement in procedural skills, but a weakness in the students’ conceptual understanding of mathematical ideas. Consequently, we shifted to a blended format, cutting back on the number of ALEKS (procedural) topics and integrating activities that fostered student discourse about mathematics concepts. In our third iteration using ALEKS, …

This paper continues our effort initiated in [19] to study Multicast Communication Networks, modeled as bilevel hierarchical clustering problems, by using mathematical optimization techniques. Given a finite number of nodes, we consider two different models of multicast networks by identifying a certain number of nodes as cluster centers, and at the same time, locating a particular node that serves as a total center so as to minimize the total transportation cost through the network. The fact that the cluster centers and the total center have to be among the given nodes makes this problem a discrete optimization problem. Our approach …

Dynamic models that simulate processes across large geographic locations, such as hydrologic models, are often informed by empirical parameters that are distributed across a geographical area and segmented by geological features such as watersheds. These parameters may be referred to as spatially distributed parameters. Spatially distributed parameters are frequently spatially correlated and any techniques utilized in their calibration ideally incorporate existing spatial hierarchical relationships into their structure. In this paper, a parameter estimation method based on the Dual State Ensemble Kalman Filter called the Dual State Hierarchical Ensemble Kalman Filter (DSHEnKF) is presented. This modified filter is innovative in that …
