On The Product Of Dilation Of Truncated Toeplitz Operators, ZOHRA BENDAOUD, NAFISSA SAOULI 2020 TÜBİTAK

On The Product Of Dilation Of Truncated Toeplitz Operators, Zohra Bendaoud, Nafissa Saouli

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper we study when the product of two dilations of truncated Toeplitz operators gives a dilation of a truncated Toeplitz operator. We will use an approach established in a recent paper written by Ko and Lee. This approach allows us to represent the dilation of the truncated Toeplitz operator via a 2 $\times$ 2 block operator.

Sensitivity Analysis In Parametric Vector Optimization In Banach Spaces Via ${\Tau}^W$-Contingent Derivatives, THANH TUNG LE, THANH HUNG PHAM 2020 TÜBİTAK

Sensitivity Analysis In Parametric Vector Optimization In Banach Spaces Via ${\Tau}^W$-Contingent Derivatives, Thanh Tung Le, Thanh Hung Pham

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

This paper is concerned with sensitivity analysis in parametric vector optimization problems via ${\tau}^w$-contingent derivatives. Firstly, relationships between the ${\tau}^w$-contingent derivative of the Borwein proper perturbation map and the ${\tau}^w$-contingent derivative of feasible map in objective space are considered. Then, the formulas for estimating the ${\tau}^w$-contingent derivative of the Borwein proper perturbation map via the ${\tau}^w$-contingent of the constraint map and the Hadamard derivative of the objective map are obtained.

On ${\Bf H}$-Curvature Of $(\Alpha,\Beta)$-Metrics, AKBAR TAYEBI, MASOOME RAZGORDANI 2020 TÜBİTAK

On ${\Bf H}$-Curvature Of $(\Alpha,\Beta)$-Metrics, Akbar Tayebi, Masoome Razgordani

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The non-Riemannian quantity ${\bf H}$ was introduced by Akbar-Zadeh to characterization of Finsler metrics of constant flag curvature. In this paper, we study two important subclasses of Finsler metrics in the class of so-called $(\alpha,\beta)$-metrics, which are defined by $F=\alpha\phi(s)$, $s=\beta/\alpha$, where $\alpha$ is a Riemannian metric and $\beta$ is a closed 1-form on a manifold. We prove that every polynomial metric of degree $k\geq 3$ and exponential metric has almost vanishing ${\bf H}$-curvature if and only if ${\bf H}=0$. In this case, $F$ reduces to a Berwald metric. Then we prove that every Einstein polynomial metric of degree $k\geq …

Ruled Surfaces Obtained By Bending Of Curves, Uğur Gözütok, Hüsnü Anil Çoban, Yasemi̇n Sağiroğlu

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We consider a first-order infinitesimal bending of a curve in $\mathbb{R}^3$ to obtain a ruled surface. This paper investigates this kind of ruled surfaces and their properties. Also, we obtain conditions for ruled surfaces obtained by bending to be developable.

On Orthomorphism Elements In Ordered Algebra, BAHRİ TURAN, HÜMA GÜRKÖK 2020 TÜBİTAK

On Orthomorphism Elements In Ordered Algebra, Bahri̇ Turan, Hüma Gürkök

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let C be an ordered algebra with a unit e. The class of orthomorphism elements Orthe(C) of C was introduced and studied by Alekhno in "The order continuity in ordered algebras". If C = L(G), where G is a Dedekind complete Riesz space, this class coincides with the band Orth(G) of all orthomorphism operators on G. In this study, the properties of orthomorphism elements similar to properties of orthomorphism operators are obtained. Firstly, it is shown that if C is an ordered algebra such that $C_r$, the set of all regular elements of C, is a Riesz space with the …

Higher-Order Sturm-Liouville Problems With The Same Eigenvalues, HANIF MIRZAEI 2020 TÜBİTAK

Higher-Order Sturm-Liouville Problems With The Same Eigenvalues, Hanif Mirzaei

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we consider self-adjoint Sturm?Liouville problem (SLP) of higher-order. We define an equivalence relation between second- and higher-order SLP. Using the Darboux lemma and equivalence relation we obtain the closed form of a family of SLP which have the same eigenvalues. Also, some spectral properties of this family of Sturm?Liouville problems are investigated.

Wirtinger Type Inequalities For Higher Order Differentiable Functions, SAMET ERDEN 2020 TÜBİTAK

Wirtinger Type Inequalities For Higher Order Differentiable Functions, Samet Erden

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Inthiswork,we establish a Wirtinger type inequality which gives the relation between the integral of square of its any order derivative via Taylor's formula. Then,we provide a similar inequality for mappings that are elements of Lr space with r > 1. Also, we indicate that special cases of these inequalities give some results presented in the earlier works.

Inverse Problem For Sturm-Liouville Differential Operators With Finite Number Of Constant Delays, MOHAMMAD SHAHRIARI 2020 TÜBİTAK

Inverse Problem For Sturm-Liouville Differential Operators With Finite Number Of Constant Delays, Mohammad Shahriari

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this manuscript,we study nonself-adjoint second-order differential operators with finite number of constant delays. We investigate the properties of the spectral characteristics and the inverse problem of recovering operators from their spectra. An inverse spectral problem is studied for recovering differential operator from the potential from spectra of two boundary value problems with one common boundary condition. The uniqueness theorem is proved for this inverse problem.

Oscillatory And Asymptotic Behavior Of Third-Order Nonlinear Differential Equations With A Superlinear Neutral Term, Said R. Grace, Iren Jadlovska, Ercan Tunç

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Sufficient conditions are derived for all solutions of a class of third-order nonlinear differential equations with a superlinear neutral term to be either oscillatory or convergent to zero asymptotically. Examples illustrating the results are included and some suggestions for further research are indicated.

A Unique Solution To A Fourth-Order Three-Point Boundary Value Problem, VEDAT SUAT ERTÜRK 2020 TÜBİTAK

A Unique Solution To A Fourth-Order Three-Point Boundary Value Problem, Vedat Suat Ertürk

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this study, it is aimed to examine the solutions of the following nonlocal boundary value problem \begin{equation*} y^{(4)}+g(x,y)=0,x\in [{c,d}], y(c)=y'(c)=y''(c)=0,y(d)=\lambda y(\xi). \end{equation*} Here, $\xi\in ({c,d}),\lambda \in \mathbb{R},g\in C([{c,d}]\times \mathbb{R},\mathbb{R})$ and $g(x,0)\neq 0.$ It is concentrated on applications of Green's function that corresponds to the above problem to derive existence and uniqueness results for the solutions. One example is also given to demonstrate the results.

Positivity-Preserving Segregate-Flux Method For Infiltration Dynamics In Tumor Growth Models, Gilbert Danso Acheampong 2020 University of Texas at El Paso

Positivity-Preserving Segregate-Flux Method For Infiltration Dynamics In Tumor Growth Models, Gilbert Danso Acheampong

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

We study the positivity preserving property and an incompressibility condition in a recently proposed tumor growth model as well as its numerical simulations. In this model, the biological process is described by a free-boundary problem of hyperbolic equations that govern the in-tumor motion of cancer cells and the infiltration of immune cells. Particularly, due to an assumption that cells take constant volume (the incompressibility condition), the tumor growth/shrinkage is closely correlated to the magnitude of infiltration of immune cells into the tumor.

Despite the fact that previous simulation results largely reproduced experimental data, there remain unanswered questions that are crucial …

Classification Of The Subalgebras Of The Algebra Of All 2 By 2 Matrices, Justin Luis Bernal 2020 University of Texas at El Paso

Classification Of The Subalgebras Of The Algebra Of All 2 By 2 Matrices, Justin Luis Bernal

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Classification of the subalgebras of the familiar algebra of all $n\times n$ real matrices over the real numbers can get quite unwieldy as all subalgebras are of dimension ranging from $1$ to $n^2$. Classification of the subalgebras of the algebra of all $2\times 2$ real matrices over the real numbers is an interesting first start.

Since $\2$ is of dimension $4$ then its possible subalgebras are of dimension $1, 2, 3,$ or $4$. The one-dimensional subalgebra and four-dimensional subalgebra need little to no attention. The two-dimensional and three-dimensional subalgebras however turn out to be of significance.

It turns out there …

Self-Similar Models: How Close The Diffusion Entropy Analysis And The Detrended Fluctuation Analysis Are From Other Models, William Kubin 2020 University of Texas at El Paso

Self-Similar Models: How Close The Diffusion Entropy Analysis And The Detrended Fluctuation Analysis Are From Other Models, William Kubin

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Financial and seismic data, like many other high frequency data are known to exhibit memory effects. In this research, we apply the concepts of L ́evy processes, Diffusion Entropy Analysis (DEA) and the Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA) to examine long-range persistence (long memory) behavior in time series data. L ́evy processes describe long memory effects. In other words, L ́evy process (where the increments are independent and follow the L ́evy distribution) is self-similar. We examine the relationship between the L ́evy parameter (α) characterizing the data and the scaling exponent of DEA (δ) and that of DFA (H) characterizing …

Free Semigroups And Identites For A Class Of Monoids, Enrique Salcido 2020 University of Texas at El Paso

Free Semigroups And Identites For A Class Of Monoids, Enrique Salcido

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

The study of words as a mathematical object is a deep and rich field of study. Algebra, Combinatorics, Theoretical Computer Science etc., are major disciplines, which are fully using this study. Combinatorial properties (via Codes, Free Hulls, Infinite Words), and algebraic properties of words are presented in this Thesis. The free semigroup on a set (alphabet) X and finite presentation of semigroups have a central place in the algebraic study of words. The last part of the Thesis is devoted to the study of identities in the alphabet X = {x,y} for a class of monoids. The characterization of such …

Laplacian Spectra Of Kneser-Like Bipartite Graphs, Cesar Iram Vazquez 2020 University of Texas at El Paso

Laplacian Spectra Of Kneser-Like Bipartite Graphs, Cesar Iram Vazquez

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Given a,b ∈N such that a > b we define a Kneser-like bipartite graph G(a,b), whose two bipartite sets of vertices represent the a-subsets and b-subsets of S = {1,...,a + b + 1}, and whose edges are pairs of vertices X and Y such that X ∩Y = ∅. We prove that the eigenvalues of the Laplacian matrix of graphs G(a,1) are all nonnegative integers. In fact, we describe these eigenvalues, and their respective multiplicities.

Mathematical Modeling Of Microemulsification Processes, Numerical Simulations And Applications To Drug Delivery, Ogochukwu Nneka Ifeacho 2020 University of Texas at El Paso

Mathematical Modeling Of Microemulsification Processes, Numerical Simulations And Applications To Drug Delivery, Ogochukwu Nneka Ifeacho

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Microemulsion systems are a great pharmaceutical tool for the delivery of formulations containing multiple hydrophilic and hydrophobic ingredients of varying physicochemical properties. These systems are gaining popularity because of its long shelf life, improved drug solubilisation capacity, easy preparation and improvement of bioavailability. Despite the advantages associated with the use of microemulsion systems in pharmaceutical industries, the major challenge impeding their use has been and continues to be the lack of understanding of these systems.

Microemulsions can be mathematically modeled by an initial boundary value problem involving a sixth order nonlinear time dependent equation. In this Thesis, we present a …

Planar Motion Control Of A Cube Satellite Using Cold Gas Thrusters, Christian Lozoya 2020 University of Texas at El Paso

Planar Motion Control Of A Cube Satellite Using Cold Gas Thrusters, Christian Lozoya

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

This Thesis presents a mathematical model developed for the computational simulation ofCubeSat movement using four thrusters that permit uniaxial translation and rotation. Arbitrary functions are fit to boundary conditions to simulate the force, acceleration, velocity, and displacement of the CubeSat along a plane. The model is used to derive a motion control algorithm assuming constant pressure and mass. A single model describes both translation and rotation. This Thesis also explores the relationship between propellant consumption and the time required to complete a displacement implied by the model.

Extrinsic Ricci Flow On Surfaces Of Revolution, Vincent E. Coll, Jeff Dodd, David L. Johnson 2020 Lehigh University

Extrinsic Ricci Flow On Surfaces Of Revolution, Vincent E. Coll, Jeff Dodd, David L. Johnson

Research, Publications & Creative Work

An extrinsic representation of a Ricci flow on a differentiable n-manifold M is a family of submanifolds S(t), each smoothly embedded in Rn+k, evolving as a function of time t such that the metrics induced on the submanifolds S(t) by the ambient Euclidean metric yield the Ricci flow on M. When does such a representation exist? We formulate this question precisely and describe a new, comprehensive way of addressing it for surfaces of revolution in R3. Our approach is to build the desired embedded surfaces of revolution S(t) in R3 into the flow at the outset by rewriting the Ricci …

A Mathematical Analysis Of The Game Of Santorini, Carson Clyde Geissler 2020 The College of Wooster

A Mathematical Analysis Of The Game Of Santorini, Carson Clyde Geissler

Senior Independent Study Theses

Santorini is a two player combinatorial board game. Santorini bears resemblance to the graph theory game of Geography, a game of moving and deleting vertices on a graph. We explore Santorini with game theory, complexity theory, and artificial intelligence. We present David Lichtenstein’s proof that Geography is PSPACE-hard and adapt the proof for generalized forms of Santorini. Last, we discuss the development of an AI built for a software implementation of Santorini and present a number of improvements to that AI.
