Theoretical Analysis Of Nonlinear Differential Equations, Emily Jean Weymier 2018 Stephen F Austin State University

Theoretical Analysis Of Nonlinear Differential Equations, Emily Jean Weymier

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Nonlinear differential equations arise as mathematical models of various phenomena. Here, various methods of solving and approximating linear and nonlinear differential equations are examined. Since analytical solutions to nonlinear differential equations are rare and difficult to determine, approximation methods have been developed. Initial and boundary value problems will be discussed. Several linear and nonlinear techniques to approximate or solve the linear or nonlinear problems are demonstrated. Regular and singular perturbation theory and Magnus expansions are our particular focus. Each section offers several examples to show how each technique is implemented along with the use of visuals to demonstrate the accuracy, …

There were a variety of neutrosophic topics studied and used by the …

Neutrosophic Soft Rough Graphs With Application, Florentin Smarandache, Muhammad Akram, Hafsa M. Malik, Sundas Shahzadi 2018 University of New Mexico

Neutrosophic Soft Rough Graphs With Application, Florentin Smarandache, Muhammad Akram, Hafsa M. Malik, Sundas Shahzadi

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

Neutrosophic sets (NSs) handle uncertain information while fuzzy sets (FSs) and intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFs) fail to handle indeterminate information. Soft set theory, neutrosophic set theory, and rough set theory are different mathematical models for handling uncertainties and they are mutually related. The neutrosophic soft rough set (NSRS) model is a hybrid model by combining neutrosophic soft sets with rough sets. We apply neutrosophic soft rough sets to graphs. In this research paper, we introduce the idea of neutrosophic soft rough graphs (NSRGs) and describe different methods of their construction. We consider the application of NSRG in decision-making problems. In …

Math Course For Liberal Arts Majors: A Pilot With Embedded Remediation, Eileen B. Perez, Hansun To, Mary Fowler, Linda Larrivee

Numeracy

This study was designed to determine if embedded remediation is significant in accelerating the pathway to completion of a college-level math course for students needing remediation. The project studied the impact on student success in a quantitative literacy course at a Massachusetts four-year state university with remedial material embedded. The course satisfies the university’s general education math requirement for students with liberal arts majors who are not required to complete college algebra or calculus-based courses. The paper begins with a presentation of the issues with remedial mathematics and its impact on students’ graduation and persistence. Next, the paper covers the …

On The Landscape Of Random Tropical Polynomials, Christopher Hoyt 2018 Claremont Colleges

On The Landscape Of Random Tropical Polynomials, Christopher Hoyt

HMC Senior Theses

Tropical polynomials are similar to classical polynomials, however addition and multiplication are replaced with tropical addition (minimums) and tropical multiplication (addition). Within this new construction, polynomials become piecewise linear curves with interesting behavior. All tropical polynomials are piecewise linear curves, and each linear component uniquely corresponds to a particular monomial. In addition, certain monomial in the tropical polynomial can be trivial due to the fact that tropical addition is the minimum operator. Therefore, it makes sense to consider a graph of connectivity of the monomials for any given tropical polynomial. We investigate tropical polynomials where all coefficients are chosen from …

Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications

Simulated and swine industry data sets were utilized to assess the impact of removing older data on the predictive ability of selection candidate estimated breeding values (EBV) when using single-step genomic best linear unbiased prediction (ssGBLUP). Simulated data included thirty replicates designed to mimic the structure of swine data sets. For the simulated data, varying amounts of data were truncated based on the number of ancestral generations back from the selection candidates. The swine data sets consisted of phenotypic and genotypic records for three traits across two breeds on animals born from 2003 to 2017. Phenotypes and genotypes were iteratively …

Optimal Supply Delivery Under Military Specific Constraints, TaLena Fletcher 2018 Georgia Southern University

Optimal Supply Delivery Under Military Specific Constraints, Talena Fletcher

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations

Through-out military history, the need to safely and effectively allocate resources to various military operations was a task of extreme importance. Satisfying the needs of multiple consumers by optimally pairing with appropriate suppliers falls into the category of vehicle routing problems (VRP), which has been intensively studied over the years. In general, finding the optimal solution to VRP is known to be NP-hard. The proposed solutions rely on mathematical programming and the size of the problems that can be optimally solved is typically limited. In military settings, balancing the needs of multiple consumers with the current operational environment has always …

Distributive Lattice Models Of The Type B Elementary Weyl Group Symmetric Functions, Katheryn Beck 2018 Murray State University

Distributive Lattice Models Of The Type B Elementary Weyl Group Symmetric Functions, Katheryn Beck

Murray State Theses and Dissertations

One of the great themes of algebraic combinatorics is the exploration of connections between ordered structures and group actions/representations. This thesis furthers this theme by presenting diamond-colored distributive lattice models of certain poly nomials that are invariant under the action of the type Bn Weyl group. Initially we realize these lattices as diamond-colored lattices of order ideals from certain vertex colored posets. We explore various coordinatizations of these lattices via partition-like elements, tableaux, and binary-type representations called tally diagrams. We also examine algebraic properties of these lattices. In particular, we prove that our type Bn lattices are effective models for …

On Spectral Theorem, Muyuan Zhang 2018 Colby College

On Spectral Theorem, Muyuan Zhang

Honors Theses

There are many instances where the theory of eigenvalues and eigenvectors has its applications. However, Matrix theory, which usually deals with vector spaces with finite dimensions, also has its constraints. Spectral theory, on the other hand, generalizes the ideas of eigenvalues and eigenvectors and applies them to vector spaces with arbitrary dimensions. In the following chapters, we will learn the basics of spectral theory and in particular, we will focus on one of the most important theorems in spectral theory, namely the spectral theorem. There are many different formulations of the spectral theorem and they convey the "same" idea. In …

Distributive Lattice Models Of The Type C One-Rowed Weyl Group Symmetric Functions, William Atkins 2018 Murray State University

Distributive Lattice Models Of The Type C One-Rowed Weyl Group Symmetric Functions, William Atkins

Murray State Theses and Dissertations

We present two families of diamond-colored distributive lattices – one known and one new – that we can show are models of the type C one-rowed Weyl symmetric functions. These lattices are constructed using certain sequences of positive integers that are visualized as filling the boxes of one-rowed partition diagrams. We show how natural orderings of these one-rowed tableaux produce our distributive lattices as sublattices of a more general object, and how a natural coloring of the edges of the associated order diagrams yields a certain diamond-coloring property. We show that each edge-colored lattice possesses a certain structure that is …

Smarandache presented neutrosophic theory as a tool for handling undetermined information. Wang et al. introduced a single valued neutrosophic set that is a special neutrosophic sets and can be used expediently to deal with real-world problems, especially in decision support. In this paper, we propose linear programming problems based on neutrosophic environment. Neutrosophic sets are characterized by three independent parameters, namely truth-membership degree (T), indeterminacy-membership degree (I) and falsity-membership degree (F), which are more capable to handle imprecise parameters. We also transform the neutrosophic linear programming problem into a crisp programming model by using neutrosophic set parameters. To measure the …
