There has been a rise in the use of visual analytic techniques to create interactive predictive environments in a range of different applications. These tools help the user sift through massive amounts of data, presenting most useful results in a visual context and enabling the person to rapidly form proactive strategies. In this paper, we present one such visual analytic environment that uses historical crime data to predict future occurrences of crimes, both geographically and temporally. Due to the complexity of this analysis, it is necessary to find an appropriate statistical method for correlative analysis of spatiotemporal data, as well …
Statistical Mechanics And Schramm-Loewner Evolution With Applications To Crack Propagation Processes, 2014 University of Tennessee - Knoxville
Statistical Mechanics And Schramm-Loewner Evolution With Applications To Crack Propagation Processes, Christopher Borut Mesic
Masters Theses
Schramm-Loewner Evolution (SLE) has both mathematical and physical roots that extend as far back as the early 20th century. We present the progression of these humble roots from the Ideal Gas Law, all the way to the renormalization group and conformal field theory, to better understand the impact SLE has had on modern statistical mechanics. We then explore the potential application of the percolation exploration process to crack propagation processes, illustrating the interplay between mathematics and physics.

This paper studies test of hypotheses for the slope parameter in a linear time trend panel data model with serially correlated error component disturbances. We propose a test statistic that uses a bias corrected estimator of the serial correlation parameter. The proposed test statistic which is based on the corresponding fixed effects feasible generalized least squares (FE-FGLS) estimator of the slope parameter has the standard normal limiting distribution which is valid whether the remainder error is I(0) or I(1). This performs well in Monte Carlo experiments and is recommended.
