Purpose: Dental hygiene students face an exorbitant amount of stress during their educational pursuits. This has only been compounded by the added stress of the COVID-19 pandemic. Students may benefit from the practice of meditation in managing their stress levels during these trying times. This study analyzes the effectiveness of meditation as a stress reliever for dental hygiene students as they navigate their education during the pandemic and the effects it may have on perception of stress, academic achievement, and physical health.

Methods: Students participated in a four-week meditation study, consisting of a 30-minute guided meditation completed once weekly. Prior …

Introduction: The management of endodontic emergencies has changed over the last few decades and varies from practice to practice. This is due to the development of new materials, new irrigation techniques, and new evidence-based research which supports clinical success. An updated questionnaire is necessary to further advance the clinical knowledge in endodontic emergencies based on current practices. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to determine the difference practice modalities between members who are board certified, who are not board certified, and endodontic graduate residents.

Materials and Methods: In 2021, every member of the American Association of Endodontics …

An In Vitro Comparison Of Shear Bond Strength Between Two Orthodontic Light-Curable Adhesive Pastes, Stephanie Becker 2021 West Virginia University

An In Vitro Comparison Of Shear Bond Strength Between Two Orthodontic Light-Curable Adhesive Pastes, Stephanie Becker

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Background and Objectives: A relatively new light-cure orthodontic adhesive BracePaste® can fluoresce under UV light to assist in cleaning up excess flash after bonding. Complete removal of excess resins around the bonded brackets may minimize excessive loss of enamel upon debonding. The objective of this study was to determine the shear bond strength of BracePaste compared to that of the conventional “Transbond XT” adhesive. Additionally, enamel and bracket interfaces were examined to determine the location of bond failure and the tooth surfaces were visually examined to assess severity of enamel marks and the presence of remaining adhesives on the …

Comparative Evaluation Of Apical Extrusion Debris And Irrigant During Calcium Hydroxide Removal And Endodontic Instrumentation Using Three Types Of Instrumentation Systems, Selen İnce Yusufoğlu, Esma Saricam

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

Many root canal preparation techniques and instruments produce apically extruded materials to a certain extent depending on the preparation system adopted. The extrusion of debris from the apical foramen during chemomechanical preparation may cause postoperative pain and failure of endodontic treatment. Objective: This study evaluates the differences in the apical extrusion of debris and calcium hydroxide (CH) during endodontic instrumentation by using Reciproc Blue (RB), WaveOne Gold (WOG), and F6 Skytaper (F6). Methods: Six experimental study groups (n = 13) were established. The root canal procedures for all groups were prepared with different methods: Group I: One Shape (OS) instrumentation, …

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

Eliminating microorganisms in the root canal system is important for the success of regenerative endodontics. Objective: This study evaluated the effects of different antibiotic pastes used for regenerative endodontic procedures on dentin microhardness and the push-out bond strength of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) to root canal dentin. Methods: Sixty-four maxillary central incisors were instrumented and randomly divided into the following four groups (n = 16) for medicament treatment: triple antibiotic paste, amoxicillin+clavulanic acid, cefaclor, and control (no dressing). After 21 days, two root segments were obtained by sectioning the roots horizontally for push-out and microhardness evaluations. MTA was placed into …

Conservative Management Of A Maxillary Lateral Incisor With An Apical Third Root Perforation: A Case Report, Nurul Astrina Damayanti, Dian Natalina Fuddjiantari, Tri Endra Untara, Yulita Kristanti 2020 Conservative Dentistry Residency Program, Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Perforation is one of iatrogenic factors responsible for endodontic failure. Root canal perforation can occur at the cervical, mid-root, or apical levels. Non-surgical (conservative) perforation repair offers less tissue destruction and easy isolation during treatment. Objective: To explain the management of apical third root perforation using the conservative technique. Case Report: This case report describes a 29-year-old patient who came for management of right maxillary lateral incisor with apical third root perforation on the labial aspect. The location of apical third root perforation was evaluated using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Root perforation was sealed using mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). …

A Developmental Stage-Specific Network Approach For Studying Dynamic Co-Regulation Of Transcription Factors And Micrornas During Craniofacial Development, Fangfang Yan, Peilin Jia, Hiroki Yoshioka, Akiko Suzuki, Junichi Iwata, Zhongming Zhao

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Craniofacial development is regulated through dynamic and complex mechanisms that involve various signaling cascades and gene regulations. Disruption of such regulations can result in craniofacial birth defects. Here, we propose the first developmental stage-specific network approach by integrating two crucial regulators, transcription factors (TFs) and microRNAs (miRNAs), to study their co-regulation during craniofacial development. Specifically, we used TFs, miRNAs and non-TF genes to form feed-forward loops (FFLs) using genomic data covering mouse embryonic days E10.5 to E14.5. We identified key novel regulators (TFs Foxm1, Hif1a, Zbtb16, Myog, Myod1 and Tcf7, and miRNAs miR-340-5p and miR-129-5p) and target genes (
