Papillon–Lefèvre syndrome (PLS) is a rare genetic disorder caused by mutations in the cathepsin C gene and inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern. The risk of its occurrence is heightened by consanguineous marriages. PLS affects both genders and presents with hyperkeratotic patches on the hands and feet and precocious aggressive periodontitis. Osteolytic lesions of the mandibular condyle can represent a diverse range of differential diagnoses, including malignancies such as metastatic disease, Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, and multiple myeloma. This case report details a 40-year-old male with a 3-year history of right temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain, initially misdiagnosed as temporomandibular disorder. Comprehensive imaging studies, including cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), maxillofacial computed tomography (CT), and brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), revealed extensive osteolytic lesions in the mandible, frontal bone, and cervical spine. Objectives: This study investigated the synthesis and partial characterization of phosphorylated chitosan extracted from the cuttlebone of Sepia aculeata (Orbingy, 1848) and evaluated its antimicrobial potential against oral pathogens. Methods: The synthesis of phosphorylated chitosan from Sepia aculeata cuttlebone involved several steps: cleaning, deproteinization, demineralization to extract chitin, deacetylation to produce chitosan, and phosphorylation to introduce phosphate groups. Phosphorylation enhances the properties of chitosan, making it a promising candidate for oral health applications. Objectives: This study aimed to characterize the microstructural and elemental properties of carbonated hydroxyapatite as a dental pulp-capping material. Methods: Carbonated hydroxyapatite was synthesized using the precipitation method. MTA and Apacal ART were obtained from commercial sources. The materials were prepared into disk-shaped specimens, hydrated in deionized water at 37°C for 14 days, and analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were considered. The studies will be examined to determine the relationship between non-surgical periodontal treatment and preterm birth rates among pregnant women. Material and Methods: A double-anonymized clinical trial study involving 60 patients with impacted third molars. The samples were randomly divided into two groups by block randomization method: DG: Dexamethasone (8 mg) and KG: Ketorolac (30 mg). The replacement of multiple teeth with dental implants in the posterior maxilla is challenging due to factors including low density bone and sinus morphology. When considering restoration of this region, prosthetic design will dictate implant placement. Additionally, planning must consider spacing between adjacent implants, spacing between implants and adjacent teeth, and irregular alveolar ridge morphology. These key measurements translate to the final prosthesis design and will affect cleanability and future oral hygiene maintenance. These characteristics subsequently affect overall longevity of the implants and prosthesis.

Background: Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities may require dental care to be delivered while under general anesthesia, albeit there is often greater need for these services than hospital capacity allows.

Case Description: This case report presents a 19-year-old male with intellectual and developmental disabilities and numerous comorbidities who was able to be treated under general anesthesia in an academic dental surgery center by an interdisciplinary team. The accompanying discussion identifies strategies that dental teams and academic centers can consider to effectively provide care to patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities who require general anesthesia.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic central nervous system disease of inflammation and demyelination. Presentation can vary tremendously but, typically, involves neurologic deficits, including weakness, pain, numbness and motor dysfunction. MS can also affect the dentoalveolar region. We describe a patient with MS who clinically presented with “electric” and “shooting, pulling” pain in the left maxillary region. The pain subsided following a course of gabapentin, leading to the diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia secondary to MS. This report aims to review various common dentoalveolar manifestations of MS.
