Additive Vs. Subtractive Manufacturing In Dental Laboratory Technology, Aneeza Hussain
Publications and Research
Have you seen technicians using milling and 3d printing machines yet? The development of computer-aided manufacturing and the medical application of this industrial technology have provided an alternative way of fabricating oral and facial prostheses. This narrative review aims to evaluate the different streams of computer-aided manufacturing in dental technology. To date, there are two streams: the subtractive and the additive approaches. The differences reside in the processing protocols, materials used, and their respective accuracy. In general, there is a tendency for the subtractive method to provide more homogeneous objects with acceptable accuracy that may be more suitable for the …

Anti-cardiolipin (anti-CL) antibodies are autoantibodies which are directed against cell membrane phospholipids. A significant number of periodontitis patients showed positive for anti-CL antibody. Objective: This study aimed to determine the periodontal parameters and anti-CL antibodies levels before and after non-surgical periodontal therapy in chronic periodontitis. Methods: This cross-sectional study had been carried out at Periodontal Clinic, Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, Malaysia. Thirty five chronic periodontitis (CP) and 39 non-periodontitis (NP) patients underwent clinical periodontal examination at baseline. Plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), periodontal pocket depth (PPD), and clinical attachment loss (CAL) were measured. Scaling …

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Drug-induced gingival overgrowth (DIGO) is defined as an abnormal growth of the gingiva due to adverse effect of some drugs such as immunosuppressant, calcium channel blocker, and anticonvulsant. Immunosuppressive drugs play an important role in controlling organ transplant rejection and were widely used to treat different diseases. Objective: Immunosuppressive drugs are used for prevention of transplant rejection and management of autoimmune disease. Drug-induced gingival overgrowth (GO) is abnormal growth of gingiva due to adverse effect of these drugs. This study aimed to assess the gingival status, the prevalence of gingival overgrowth and its associated factors among immunosuppressed patients. Methods …

Objectives
This study used micro-computed tomography (µCT) to compare voids and interfaces in single-cone obturation among AH Plus, EndoSequence BC, and prototype surface pre-reacted glass ionomer (S-PRG) sealers and to determine the percentage of sealer contact at the dentin and gutta-percha (GP) interfaces. Materials and Methods
Fifteen single-rooted human teeth were shaped using ProTaper NEXT size X5 rotary files using 2.5% NaOCl irrigation. Roots were obturated with a single-cone ProTaper NEXT GP point X5 with AH Plus, EndoSequence BC, or prototype S-PRG sealer (n = 5/group). Results
The volumes of GP, sealer, and voids were measured in the region …

Dental Medicine Faculty Research
Introduction: Many studies in stem cell biology have demonstrated that dental pulp stem cells (DPSC) may be highly proliferative and capable of pluripotent differentiation into many different tissue types. Recent advances in stem cell research have outlined methods for directing in vitro or in vivo growth, viability, and proliferation, as well as differentiation of DPSC-although much remains to be discovered. Based upon this information, the primary objective of this study was to understand the functional biomaterials needed to more effectively direct DPSC viability, growth, and proliferation. Methods: Using an approved protocol, previously collected and isolated samples of DPSC from an …

The Relative Occlusal Force Of Natural Tooth Adjacent To Distal Extension Implant Support Fixed Prosthesis Using T-Scan Analysis : A Cross Sectional Study, Chin Purintarapiban
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Objective: This cross-sectional study aimed to compare the relative occlusal force between implant in the distal end and tooth adjacent to implant in maximum intercuspation. Methodology: Patients with implant restoration replacing teeth in free end space adjacent to natural tooth were recalled. The occlusion is examined as shim stock passes through the occluded tooth in heavy or light bites. The heavy bite or a light bite with shim stock that cannot pull through is HB1 or LB1. If the shim stock can pull through it is considered HB0 or LB0. The implant is classified into 3 groups, HB1LB0, HB1LB1, and …

Materials and Methods: Forty selected human mandibular premolars were divided into 4 groups (n=10) according to restoration after endodontic treatment: restored with prefabricated D.T. Light-Post (Group PDT), restored with D.T. Light-Post, relined with resin composite (Group ADT), restored with prefabricated Hi-Rem post (Group PHR), and restored with Hi-Rem post, relined with resin composite (Group AHR). Following cementation and core construction, specimens were loaded at a 45-degree angle in a universal testing machine until fracture. The fracture modes of …

Prevalence And Course Of Mandibular Incisive Canal In Thai Population Using Cone-Beam Computed Tomography, Wadee Sukontasing
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Purpose: To assess the prevalence and course of mandibular incisive canal in Thai population using cone-beam computed tomography. 149 CBCT images of the mandibles were obtained from 78 males (52.3%) and 71 females (47.7%) age ranged between 21 and 73 years. For the CBCT scan, the standard i-CAT settings were used. A digital ruler was incorporated into the viewing software for the purpose of taking measurements. Double measurements and observations were conducted by a single observer. Result: The mandibular incisive canal was identified in 90.60% of all the subject, 67 (85.89%) in males and 68 (95.77%) in females. The mean …

Influence Of Training Schedule On Learning Outcome Of Motor Skills For Dynamic Navigation System In Esthetic Zone, Wirawat Kunakornsawat
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Backgroud: Currently, a novel dynamic navigation system has been demonstrated to improve the accuracy of 3D implant placement, but proficiency in this system is quite difficult to achieve. Thus, the training course for using this system is required. The distributed training has been shown to be superior to massed training, it is still uncertain whether differences in distributed training rest periods will result in the best motor skill acquisition for dynamic navigation system. Purpose: The objective of this study was to determine the most effective schedule for training motor skill needed to perform implant placement using dynamic navigation system: distributed …

A Comparison Of Implant Stability Between Two Implant Systems Using Guided Surgery In Inexperienced Surgeons, Pinmuk Supachaiyakit
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Aim: To investigate the implant stability in relation to two different implant designs, a cylindrical shaped single threaded design (CS/ST) and a tapered shaped double threaded design (TS/DT) using RFA over the first 8 weeks. Materials and Methods: 28 implants were randomly allocated into two groups and were placed as single tooth implant in the posterior arch. CBCT scan was used to determine the bone density and the implants were placed with guided surgical template by inexperienced surgeons which were prepared with the same implant planning software. The implant stability was measured using the RFA over the first 8 weeks …
