Clinical And Mechanical Evaluation Of A New All-Ceramic Restorative Material Turkon-Cera™., Bandar Mohammed Abdullah Al-Makramani
Student Works (2010-2019)
The mechanical properties and clinical performance of Turkom-Cera system were evaluated in this study. The mechanical properties evaluated were; flexural strength, microhardness, shear bond strength, fracture resistance and marginal integrity. The biaxial flexural strength and hardness of Turkom-Cera compared to two other allceramic systems (In-Ceram and Vitadur-N) were investigated. The Turkom-Cera exhibited significantly higher flexural strength (506.8 MPa) than In-Ceram (347.4 MPa) and Vitadur-N (128.7 MPa) ceramic materials. However, In-Ceram core has significantly higher hardness (1116.2 VHN) than Turkom-Cera (1002.1 VHN) and Vitadur-N (812.8 VHN) all-ceramic materials. In order to find the optimal choice of luting cement and surface treatment …

Air polishing has been available for four decades, however, the concept is based on a technology invented by Dr. Robert Black in 1945. Dr. Black invented the Air Dent, a device that used compressed air, water, and a highly abrasive powder to eliminate pain from cavity preparation, making anesthesia unnecessary. The Air Dent had numerous problems that could not be overcome, but Dr. Black never gave up on his idea. The technology he invented became the basis of air polishing and was first marketed in 1976. By the late 1970s, air polishing was readily available.
Air polishing represents the most …

Synthesis Of Urethane Acrylate Macromer From Palm Oil-Based Polyol And Its Application As A Resin For Dental Composite., Fadhel A. A. Alsanabani
Student Works (2010-2019)
A slightly branched urethane acrylate macromer (UAM) was synthesized by reacting palm oil-based polyol with excess amounts of polymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) to form urethane prepolymer, then reacted with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and FT-IR spectroscopy confirmed the urethane and grafted acrylate groups. 0.2% by weight of camphoroquinone (CQ) and 0.8% by weight of ethyl-4-N,N-dimethylamino-benzoate (4EDMAB) by weight were added to render the experimental resins light-curable. Their viscosity, percentage of degree of conversion (%DC) and cross-linking density (CLD), percentage of volumetric polymerization shrinkage (%VPS), water sorption and solubility, flexural strength, modulus of elasticity and toughness were determined and compared to …

Polishing Esthetic Restorative Materiai, Caren M. Barnes
College of Dentistry: Faculty Publications
When esthetic dental restorations are encountered during charting, they should be included in the treatment plan for the specific polishing procedures that are required. If the brand and type of esthetic restoration are known through the patient chart, the polishing procedures and products used should be those recommended by the manufacturer. If not possible, alternative polishing procedures should be used. A cleaning agent containing feldspar and rubber polishing cup can be used on all esthetic restorative materials with no chance of damage to the surface characterization.
The principles for polishing esthetic restorations are the same as for natural teeth. If …
