Chemo mechanical preparation is one of the important stages for successful endodontic treatment, and Boric acid has been proposed as an alternative irrigation solution for root canal treatment. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of irrigation with boric acid (BA) and EDTA on the mineral content and microhardness of dentin and penetration of the AH Plus root canal sealer. Methods: 63 single-rooted teeth were instrumented. Microhardness analysis, 45 teeth were cut longitudinally and then transversely to obtain dentin. Pre- and post-treatment microhardness values were measured. The samples were randomly assigned into 3 groups …

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
The diagnosis and prognosis of teeth with endo-perio lesions present a major challenge for dentists. Proper diagnosis is critical in determining treatment and the long-term prognosis. However, treating complex endodontic and periodontal lesions is one of the most common challenges in current clinical practice. The coexistence of pulpal and periodontal tissue damage may complicate diagnosis and further influence dental prognosis. This article consists of a case report evaluating the efficacy of xenografts and resorbable membrane pericardium in treating bifurcation lesions associated with periodontal lesions of the left mandibular first molar. A 22-year-old female patient was referred by conservative dentistry with …

Shore A Hardness And Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer Analysis Of Thymol-Modified Maxillofacial Silicone Material, Manar Hussein Ramadhan, Faiza M. Abdul-Ameer
Maaen Journal for Medical Sciences
The longevity of any prosthesis depends on the materials from which it was fabricated, which is why defects in the material properties may reduce the service life of the prosthesis and necessitate its replacement. This study aims to test the influence of incorporating different weight percentages of thymol micro-powder into the maxillofacial silicone matrix on Shore A hardness of the silicone. Room-temperature vulcanised VST-50 maxillofacial silicone was used to prepare the study specimens. Thymol micro-powder was incorporated into the silicone matrix in two percentages (0.75 wt.% and 1 wt.%). 30 specimens were prepared and then subdivided equally into three groups, …

Photocurable Ionized Vinylimidazole Liquid Salt For Antibacterial Application, Gina Park, Lisa Ahlberg, Robert Zdor
Celebration of Research and Creative Scholarship
There has been an increasing demand for antibacterial dental composite as it can prevent the biofilm formation and the adhesion of bacteria after the treatment causing the consequential cavities. Previous study explored the antibacterial activity of the heterogenous mixture of heterocyclic polymer and resin. It showed limitations as the mixture did not show antibacterial activity since the mixture could only contain a small amount of heterocyclic polymer within the resin due to its inconvenience of shaping and low miscibility. To overcome this limitation, this research focused on synthesizing heterocyclic antibacterial monomer liquid salt and curing it with UV light to …

Fabrication And Characterization Of Nylon 6 Fiber Via Wet Spinning Method For Application As A Reinforcing Material For A Direct Dental Bridge, Dissa Kirana Wijaya, Nina Djustiana, Yanwar Faza, Arief Cahyanto, Andri Hardiansyah
Makara Journal of Science
Nylon is a biocompatible thermoplastic polymer that is well known for its excellent fracture resistance, making it suitable for fabricating fiber-reinforced composite (FRC)-based dental bridges. FRC is widely used in dentistry. This study aimed to investigate the structural and morphological characteristics of the nylon 6 fiber prepared using five different weights of nylon 6 dissolved in formic acid. The nylon 6 fiber was successfully fabricated via a simple wet spinning method using water as a coagulant. The fiber was then characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, optical microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. FTIR spectroscopy confirmed the presence of nylon …

Oral Leukoplakia: Diagnosis And Management Revisited, Isaäc Van Der Waal
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
The definition of oral leukoplakia has not much changed during the past five decades and is still a definition by exclusion of ‘known’ lesions. Therefore, a diagnosis of leukoplakia is not always a straightforward one for the clinicians and, to some extent, also for the pathologists. The traditional clinical classification in homogeneous and nonhomogeneous leukoplakia may just be simplified into leukoplakia (thin and thick/verrucous) and erythroleukoplakia. In spite of numerous reported predictive molecular and genetic parameters of malignant transformation, the presence and grade of epithelial dysplasia as assessed by histopathological examination is still the most important one. Of the various …

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the centering ability and canal transportation of the ProTaper Next, One Curve, and TruNatomy instruments in curved root canals. Methods: Forty-five curved mesiobuccal canals of human mandibular molar teeth were selected, randomly divided into 3 groups, and prepared using the ProTaper Next, One Curve, and TruNatomy files. Cone Beam Computed Tomography images of the cross-sectional planes at 1 mm, 3 mm, 5 mm, and 7 mm from the apical foramen were determined before and after the preparation. For each specified millimeter canal transportation and centering ability were measured. Statistical analysis was performed …

Objective: The study aimed to compare cavity volume data obtained with two different intraoral scanners. Methods: One hundred extracted molar teeth were divided into groups according to ICDAS-II classification, and scanned with Cerec Omnicam (Dentsply Sirona) and iTero Element Flex (Align Technology). The caries-infected tissues were removed regarding either minimally invasive or conventional cavity principles. Samples were scanned again and volumetric data were assessed by Meshmixer 3.5 (Autodesk) 3D modeling software. Statistical evaluations were performed with Mann Whitney U test and Spearman’s Correlation test. The significance level was α=0.05. Results: Although there was a significant difference between obtained …

How To Manage Fan’S C Shape Canals Along With S Shape Morphology In Indian Population: A Case Series And Narrative Review, A Lavanya, Rajendra Kumar Tewari
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
The C-shaped root canals offer greater negotiation, debridement, and obturation difficulty as they present with intercommunications, lateral canals, and reduced dentin thickness.
Objective: This case series elaborates on the recognition that these varying configurations is important to enhance adequate cleaning, shaping, and sealing of the root canal.
Case Reports: On clinical examination, all the teeth showed caries were nonresponsive to sensibility tests and toother diagnostic tests, suggestive of pulp necrosis with apical periodontitis. Conventional root canal treatment with different techniques and obturation systems have been used. This case series presents the successful management of various C-shaped configurations classified by Fan …

Local Chlorhexidine Delivery For Periodontal Infection Therapy: A Short Review, Muhammad Guruh Najmudin, Azizah Intan Pangesty, Rini Riastuti, Sunarso Sunarso, Abdul Halim Abdullah
Journal of Materials Exploration and Findings
Oral diseases affected more than half of the world’s population. Periodontitis is the second biggest threat to oral health after dental caries. Periodontitis is an inflammation inside periodontal pockets caused by pathogenic microbial colonies which lead to destruction of bone tissue and soft tissue. Chlorhexidine gluconate is an antimicrobial agent that effective to destroy pathogenic microbial and cure periodontitis. Chlorhexidine gluconate is given locally using a carrier material to the infected area. There are several materials that can be used to deliver Chlorhexidine gluconate to the infected periodontal tissue such as gel, liquid (mouthwash), and chip. This short review aims …
