This study examines the development of a comprehensive talent information system for the Shenandoah Valley Partnership (SVP), addressing the region’s prioritized need for talent attraction and retention. Through a mixed-methods approach combining literature review, demographic analysis, and qualitative interviews with comparable regional economic development organizations, the research identifies effective strategies for collecting, managing, and analyzing workforce data. The Shenandoah Valley region, comprising twelve localities in Virginia, faces challenges in educational attainment and healthcare provision despite possessing significant natural and cultural assets. The intent of this thesis is to explore how spirituality in place shapes college students’ cognition. While spiritual development is recognized as an important aspect of student affairs, its influence on cognitive factors such as locus of control and place attachment remains underexplored. This study investigates the relationship between spirituality, place attachment, and locus of control, as well as students’ perceptions of spiritual design elements on UCF’s campus. In 2020, Oregon voters approved Measure 110, a groundbreaking policy that decriminalized possession of small quantities of controlled substances and redirected cannabis tax revenues to treatment and recovery centers. This article examines the passage, implementation, and rollback of Measure 110 with HB 4002, enacted in 2024. Drawing on state audits, legislative records, and public health data to contextualize Measure 110 within broader debates on public health, criminal justice reform, and policy-making, Albertson analyzes the progressive policy’s aspirational, reform-minded goals and the practical shortcomings in its enactment. This article interrogates how inflexible designs and policies of airline seating, as well as critical socio-political rhetoric, discipline and marginalize bodies that do not conform to normative standards. Situating airline seating within fat and disability studies models, Mortimer argues that these punitive measures are not neutral, but rather reflective of cultural narratives of productivity, morality, and bodily discipline. As of 2024, Virginia’s Central Region continues to produce one of the highest rates of foster care emancipations in the state, despite having minimal infrastructure to support young adults transitioning out of care. Each year, dozens of foster youth in the region age out of the system without reunification, adoption, or other forms of permanency, disproportionately entering adulthood without the stability of housing, employment, or accessible services. Although permanent supportive housing (PSH) has emerged as a nationally validated model for housing and service integration, few PSH developments in Virginia are designed specifically for aged-out foster youth or their families.

This project examines how the Crater Planning District Commission (CPDC) can develop a cohesive community identity through regional branding. Spanning eleven localities in Virginia, the CPDC faces challenges related to fragmented identity, under-leveraged assets, and limited community engagement across its jurisdictions. Through a review of thirty-two planning documents and two rounds of stakeholder focus groups, this research identifies common strengths, recurring issues, and shared aspirations across the region.

Given the extent of the eviction crisis in Oregon, it is crucial to investigate what happens to tenants after they are displaced from their homes. This report investigates three main questions concerning tenants’ post-eviction housing outcomes: Where do tenants live after they have been evicted? How do post-eviction housing outcomes affect tenants’ health, finances, and safety? How do rental assistance and legal assistance affect post-eviction housing outcomes?

Nearly two thirds of evicted tenants moved directly into some form of homelessness, including sheltered, unsheltered, or doubled-up homelessness. These findings indicate that Oregon’s eviction crisis and homelessness crisis are closely linked.

Human–coyote (Canis latrans) conflict in urban environments is prevalent in cities throughout the United States. Urban areas commonly use nonlethal techniques to mitigate coyote-caused conflicts but will also incorporate selective removal of individual coyotes when conflicts persist. However, little research has evaluated these management strategies. This study analyzed coyote removal efforts conducted in the Chicago Metropolitan Area from 2010 to 2020. To evaluate the management actions, we used “time without incidence”—the time elapsing from an initial conflict until either a subsequent conflict occurred in the same area, or when the data collection period ended—as an index of effectiveness. …

Wildfire models drive billions of dollars in risk mitigation efforts. However, the modeling community currently lacks a representative fuelscape on which to base simulations of fire spread in the built environment and the wildland-urban interface (WUI) where vegetation and structures act together as fuel for wildfire. This thesis advances wildfire risk modeling by addressing the underdeveloped representation of the built environment in existing frameworks. Eviction is a major contributor to cycles of urban poverty, and a growing body of research has documented eviction’s harmful effects. This study finds that landlord size and the number of code violations associated with the landlord’s portfolio both predict higher numbers of eviction filings. Using eviction filing data and newly available code violation data from Albany, NY in 2023 and 2024, this study examines landlord characteristics and their association with eviction filing. This study also examines public housing, finding that the Albany Housing Authority is the largest eviction filer in Albany in the study period. These findings are concerning …
