Transboundary conservation, as a pivotal strategy in addressing the global biodiversity crisis, plays a critical role in maintaining ecological connectivity and promoting regional ecological security and sustainable development. Under the initiative of the Xishuangbanna World Biosphere Reserve and with bilateral governmental support from China and Laos, a contiguous transboundary protected area spanning approximately 220 km and encompassing 200 000 hectares was established along their shared border in 2012. This study elucidates the importance of transboundary conservation. Humans with monogenic inborn errors responsible for extreme disease phenotypes can reveal essential physiological pathways. We investigated germline mutations in GNAI2, which encodes Gαi2, a key component in heterotrimeric G-protein signal transduction usually thought to regulate adenylyl cyclase-mediated cAMP production. Patients with activating Gαi2 mutations had clinical presentations that included impaired immunity. Mutant Gαi2 impaired cell migration and augmented responses to T cell receptor (TCR) stimulation. We found that mutant Gαi2 influenced TCR signaling by sequestering the GTPase-activating protein RASA2, thereby promoting RAS activation and increasing downstream ERK/MAPK and PI3K-AKT S6 signaling to drive cellular growth and proliferation.

The Veterans Education Task Force, funded by the Veteran Reconnect Grant and led by Syracuse University's IVMF with guidance from the Tennessee Board of Regents, evaluated veteran education strategies from 2020-2023. Their assessment, involving surveys and data from 39 TBR institutions, found strong institutional commitment but highlighted issues with identifying and supporting student veterans. Many institutions are developing veteran-focused programs but still lack comprehensive plans and resources. Key needs include better faculty/staff training and improved systems for identifying and supporting veterans.

Drawing on the essence of global science and technology innovation (STI) centers, this study evaluates the level of science and technology innovation of 140 cities worldwide by constructing a five forces assessment model of global STI centers, which includes 33 indicators in 5 dimensions. The analysis reveals a significant tripartite pattern of development in global STI centers across Europe, North America, and the Asia-Pacific region. However, divergent patterns emerge in the development of these centers across different regions. Notably, global STI centers in various regions follow distinct development trajectories. The integrated protected area community (IPAC) model is a Chinese innovation in protected area governance, emerging from the convergence of national policy support, local government implementation, and community participation. Rather than relying solely on administrative jurisdiction or geographic proximity, IPAC uses protected areas as institutional hubs to align ecological conservation with community development and regional collaboration. UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) emphasizes that biosphere reserves should serve as “learning sites for sustainable development”. Ecological conservation should not be separated from human life, but instead be integrated with community development, cultural continuity, and educational advancement. Guided by this principle, the Maolan Biosphere Reserve in Guizhou has grounded its efforts in the traditional ecological culture of its multi-ethnic local communities. It transforms ecological ethics and aesthetic experiences into shared ecological values and innovative governance mechanisms, thereby forging a path of ecological civilization that integrates nature conservation, cultural identity, and livelihood improvement.
