Public Land Revisited: Municipalization And Privatization In Newark And New York City, Samuel Stein, Oksana Mironova
Publications and Research
Public land plays a central role in contemporary urban planning struggles. Using a comparative case study approach focused on the north-eastern US cities of Newark and New York City, we uncover patterns of land acquisition and dispossession that fit five broad and often overlapping periods in planning history: City Beautiful, metropolitan reorganization, deindustrialization, and devaluation, followed by hyper-commodification in New York City and redevelopment amidst disinvestment in Newark. Through this periodization, we find that accumulation and alienation of urban public land has largely taken place through two modes of municipalization (targeted and reactive) and two modes of privatization (community-led and …

Due to a unique colonial history, Hong Kong today operates under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework. In the years immediately following the handover, it was generally thought that this was working quite well. This article analyzes military policy making made by Australian Government to tackle the issue of illegal immigrants in Australia after the Australian Federal Election in 2013. This study discusses the process of material procurement of goods, the process of filing documents by staff purchasing, and obstacles experienced by staff purchasing during the procurement process. The method used in the writing of this final work is a field observation method where the authors participate directly to the field to see, research, and perform. The author also used interview methods to get a direct answer from industry players.

يهدف البحث الحالي الى قياس واختبار دور ممارسات الموارد البشرية الدولية التي تمتلكها العينة المبحوثة لمعالجة مشاكل الاغتراب الوظيفي الذي يعانيه العاملين المتمثل بـ (ضعف القدرة على التأثير, وضياع المعنى, ونقص المعايير, وضعف العلاقات مع الاخرين, وغربة الذات), واعتمد البحث على الاستبانة كأداة رئيسة لجمع البيانات الضرورية واللازمة لتحقيق هدفها. اذ تم توزيع (60) استمارة لتحديد مستوى توافر ادارة الموارد البشرية الدولية والاغتراب الوظيفي, وتم استرجاع (53) استمارة، فضلا عن استعمال مجموعة من الاساليب الاحصائية متمثل بالوسط الحسابي الموزون، والانحراف المعياري، ومعامل الارتباط البسيط سبيرمان، ومعامل الانحدار البسيط والمتعدد. وأظهرت نتائج البحث وجود علاقة ارتباط موجبة ذات دلالة إحصائية بين …

Sustainability and Social Justice
Mineral and hydrocarbon extraction and infrastructure are increasingly significant drivers of forest loss, greenhouse gas emissions, and threats to the rights of forest communities in forested areas of Amazonia, Indonesia, and Mesoamerica. Projected investments in these sectors suggest that future threats to forests and rights are substantial, particularly because resource extraction and infrastructure reinforce each other and enable population movements and agricultural expansion further into the forest. In each region, governments have made framework policy commitments to national and cross-border infrastructure integration, increased energy production, and growth strategies based on further exploitation of natural resources. This reflects political settlements among …
