A growing number of grantmaking institutions (GMIs) recognize that listening to communities in which they invest—especially those to, and most affected by, the challenges being addressed—is crucial to achieve their equity goals. Despite investments and intent to listen, there is a gap in implementation.

Genuine listening for equity requires that foundation leaders view the shift as adaptive and not merely technical. A technical change entails adoption of specified methods whereas adaptive changes require a fundamental shift in values and beliefs. Solely implementing new “listening” techniques without shifting values and beliefs could leave gaps between intention and action. But current resources …

Reflecting a growing consensus that meaningful change doesn’t come without the involvement of those most impacted, funders have signed on to efforts to “listen,” “get proximate,” and “empower.”

In this article, the authors draw on their lived expertise and research to describe how even well-intentioned community engagement efforts can become extractive, tokenizing, and undermine existing community assets. As a meaningful alternative, the authors suggest “centering community” as an orientation to all philanthropic work and the Community Bill of Rights (CBR) as a tool to guide the required change (Black et al., 2022).

The research employed a Delphi method, gathering expert consensus from marketing, communication, and visual communication fields to assess the group's use of marketing strategies in attracting sympathizers and disseminating their ideology. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) represents a growing global health challenge with significant clinical and economic implications, notably in Indonesia. The burden is intensified by renal and cardiovascular complications, especially among National Health Insurance beneficiaries. This retrospective study evaluated the direct medical costs of hospitalized T2DM patients with such complications at a type B hospital from 2019 to 2022. Costs were analyzed from both healthcare provider and payer perspectives, covering medical services, medical support services, pharmaceuticals, and other support services. This study aimed to determine the ATP of subsidized members based on tobacco expenditure and factors associated with their willingness to pay (WTP). This cross-sectional study used secondary data from the National Institute of Health Research and Development. One of the most popular species in Midwest reservoirs are walleye (Sander vitreus), and most of these fisheries have established restrictions on the number and sizes of fish harvested. This qualitative study explored how these trainers define and deliver meaningful learning experiences despite systemic barriers, limited resources, and monolingual policies. Grounded in critical constructivism, the research centered the lived experiences and voices of linguistically diverse trainers across multiple contexts. Although Japanese seniors are very healthy, research shows that they are not very happy. Compared to seniors in other developed countries, Japanese elders have lower ratings of subjective well-being and are increasingly alone. This paper argues that changes to Japanese family life help explain why Japanese elders are struggling with low subjective well-being. Specifically, declining marriage rates and declining rates of elders living with their children (co-residency) have made it harder for elders to get the support they need.
