An Investigation Of Gold Open Access Publications Of Stem Faculty At A Public University In The United States (Poster), Daniel G. Kipnis, Denise Brush

In examining Gold Open Access Publishing at our university we discovered that after a library-sponsored Open Access Publishing Fund was created in 2017 that rates of science and engineering publication went up 176% In Engineering the percentage rate of increase from 2017 was 200%. Of the 46 Gold Open Access publications awarded since fund was created in 2017 33 were in science and engineering. Disciplinary differences in the rates of Gold Open Access publishing are also shared to help librarians focus on which disciplines are more inclined to publish in Gold Open Access journals. Equal access to library resources and services is vital to the successful learning of all students at higher education institutions. All academic libraries provide access to databases in support of the discovery and scholarship needs of the university or college. However, not all databases are equally accessible. Librarians at Pittsburg State University recognized the difficulties disabled students attending college have accessing resources and wanted to assist students and faculty by learning more and reducing barriers. In 2019, the Georgia Southern Libraries hired a new Dean of the Libraries. The Access Services department was responsible for implementing several new projects and was required to assemble a project team using the new Dean’s foundational approach of shared governance. This presentation will outline how the Access Services department built a project team on the fly. We will outline the criteria used to select members from across two campuses to complete several different projects.

According to Oracle's white paper, Successful Data Migration, October 2011, up to 75% of new systems fail to meet expectations. That is quite a high number, and our small consortium felt this was true after we migrated to Ex Libris Alma/Primo VE in 2020! We often see librarians on Alma listservs asking for best practices, tips and tricks to manage data, or what metadata challenges to be aware of before migration. The study focused on use of social media platforms by library staff to market library services at Uganda Christian University, Mukono. The study objectives included; to identify the types of library services offered by the library, social media used in marketing library services and challenges faced by library staff. The study adopted a case study research design. The study population consisted of 12 library staff who were selected purposively. Data was collected using in-depth interviews and observation methods and was analyzed qualitatively using content and thematic analysis. The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Libraries’ Archives and Special Collections formed a partnership with Omaha's Great Plains Black History Museum (GPBHM) to digitize a selection of their archival materials and host the collection on our Islandora instance. The partnership was designed as a pilot test for how UNO could partner with local institutions to help facilitate access to their unique holdings. We selected materials to temporarily transfer onsite for digitization last spring. We hired a student employee to arrange and describe, then begin digitizing materials relating to UNO's Department of Black Studies before expanding the scope to include …

A Body Without A Soul: Why Print Still Matters In Legal Research, Mari Cheney, Heather Simmons

This article argues that print still has a place in legal research pedagogy and that some materials should still be collected in print in addition to online should the budget allow for it due to five primary reasons: (1) stability of legal information; (2) context; (3) information literacy; (4) algorithm bias; and (5) the discovery of information. Since many law library budgets are shrinking, there are creative ways for online legal publishers to make online material more print-like should libraries be unable to purchase both print and online material.

This study aims to review the open science (OS) policy documents, identify their subject areas, and distinguish the topics of OS support policies in seven European countries, providing a platform for practical cooperation between countries in science popularization. With a qualitative– inductive approach, all pertinent policy documents in OS were collected through documentary study, and thematic analysis was conducted to identify OS policies for each country. Finally, forty-six policy documents extracted up to December 2020 were thematically analyzed through a qualitative–inductive case study. The study investigated the inhibiting factors of selection and acquisition of grey literature in universities libraries. In carrying out this study four research questions were posed. The study employed a descriptive research design with a questionnaire as the research instrument. The study was carried out using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) application software. OBJECTIVES: Pediatric oropharyngeal trauma is common. Although most cases resolve uneventfully, there have been reports of internal carotid artery injury leading to devastating neurovascular sequelae. There is significant controversy regarding the utility of CT angiography (CTA) in children with seemingly minor oropharyngeal trauma. The goal of this study was to appraise changes in diagnosis and treatment based on CTA results.

METHODS: A comprehensive search of PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Scopus, the Cochrane Ear, Nose and Throat Disorders Group Trials Register, and the ClinicalTrials.gov database was performed following PRISMA guidelines.

The term openwashing originated in 2009, when Michelle Thorne coined and defined it as the process of “spin[ning] a product or company as open, although it is not.” The term has since become more commonplace around scholars and practitioners, who sometimes call out acts of openwashing to signal that despite claims suggesting otherwise, a product, service, or company does not fulfill requirements to be Open.

The Spanish-American War of 1898 ushered in an era of American rule over the Philippines that formally ended in 1946. An expansive colonial government developed with Americans filling most professional positions early on. There was a slow transition to Filipinos holding those positions, and this process can be seen in the field of librarianship. By the middle of 1924, library leadership and the teaching of library science was firmly in the hands of Filipinos.
