This report describes the results and recommendations from a spring 2023 Libraries website usability study of student participants. The report was shared with the Libraries Leadership Group and later with the Libraries organization. Changes based on the study were made January, 2024.

Engaging, Reflecting, Listening: The Undergraduate Research Process, Maura A. Smale, Mariana Regalado

Publications and Research

This study investigated the kinds of information literacy and library support that undergraduates found useful when completing a research assignment. Through weekly questionnaires with students on their experiences doing research for their English composition class, we explored the ways in which college students study, research, and complete their assignments, including the tools and processes that they find most helpful as well as the ways in which they need more support. Our research provides insights into the student experience for both library program development and English composition faculty and program directors.

McGovern, includes medical ledgers, bills, apothecary receipts, legal documents, colonization contracts, a book about the effects of climate and weather changes on disease and death, correspondence, legislative and government records, official government seals, Republic-era currency, and more! All historical documents in this collection have been digitized and can be viewed and accessed alongside the finding aid.

The definition of scholarly content has expanded to include the data and source code that contribute to a publication. While major archiving efforts to preserve conventional scholarly content, typically in PDFs (e.g., LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, Portico), are underway, no analogous effort has yet emerged to preserve the data and code referenced in those PDFs, particularly the scholarly code hosted online on Git Hosting Platforms (GHPs). Similarly, Software Heritage is working to archive public source code, but there is value in archiving the surrounding ephemera that provide important context to the code while maintaining their original URIs. This case study details the author’s experiences selecting books for a subject he knew nothing about. Most librarians are asked at some point in their career to take on responsibilities that they do not feel prepared for, so the author hopes this article will help readers adapt to those unfamiliar duties. The author discusses the challenges he faced within Kennesaw State University’s team-based liaison model, his attempts to do evidence-based selecting, and the lessons he learned along the way. Consequently, no one community and/or library-centered EDI journey is the same. However, interestingly, progressive Illinois (IL) state libraries have walked the same roads. On Being Seen, On Being Legible, On Being: A Black, Agender Perspective On A Career In Libraries, Adrian Williams

This ethnographic essay explores the author’s journey in understanding, contending with, and building a career in academic libraries that is affirming to their Black and agender identity. The essay discusses the hypervisibility of the author’s race in libraries, in contrast to the invisibility of their transness, and how that contrast has affected how they navigate their work as a pre-tenure librarian.
