The Anchor, Volume 132.14: January 23, 2019, Hope College

The Anchor: 2019

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Informing Website Navigation Design With Team-Based Card Sorting, Alex Sundt, Teagan Eastman

In 2016, Utah State University (USU) Libraries redesigned the library website’s main menu and underlying information architecture (IA) in response to a number of known usability problems and limitations. Card sorting studies were conducted with a group of USU undergraduate students and a mixed group of faculty and graduate students to help develop a better understanding of users’ mental models of library-related research and service tasks. Participants worked in teams to sort, rank and label cards pertaining to the content and feature of the library’s website. This paper describes the usability of OPAC searching facility in the university libraries of Haryana. The study revealed that 86.0% of the users were aware of OPAC services in MDU, while 89.7% of the users were aware of OPAC service in CUH. In MDU, the maximum of 52.4% users used the OPAC system daily, while in CUH, the maximum of 32.0% users used the OPAC system biweekly. This cross-sectional study was conducted among librarians from Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa to establish the prevalence of occupational burnout in the library set up. A previously validated self-administered questionnaire [Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI)] was used to collect information on the prevalence and pattern of job burnout among the respondents. The occurrence of extreme burnout among the respondents, especially those working in the Electronic and Reference Services area of their libraries was found. Objective: This study aims to identify library collaboration in dealing with changes in the academic environment in university libraries in Indonesia which is required to improve competitiveness with the limited resources available.
