Solution Shift Performance By Young Children In Concept Learning Tasks, Elizabeth Ann Myers Jan 1973

Solution Shift Performance By Young Children In Concept Learning Tasks, Elizabeth Ann Myers

All Master's Theses

This study required six groups of Ss (four preschool groups, first graders and adults) to solve one of two types of solution shifts: a reversal (R) and a half reversal (HR). It was hypothesized that greater linguistic skill would yield higher performance on the R shift relative to the HR shift. The results of the present study indicated that the gifted Ss, first graders, and adults all performed better on the R shift relative to the HR shift even though problem solving ability in general improved with older Ss. The difference in performance between shifts for the other three groups …

Ecological Assessment Of Influences In The Development Of Gifted Young Children, Laura M. Piper

All Master's Theses

The home environment of eight gifted and eight nongifted children, matched for age and sex, was studied. The mothers of the children were given a structured interview and their responses were rated on six environmental variables hypothesized to be related to the development of intelligence and social ability. The study was designed to evaluate the assessment instrument and to obtain correlational data between the home environment and certain child development aspects. Correlations were significant on five of the six variables.

All Master's Theses

This study compared the self-disclosures of eighty freshmen and sophomore students at a Residence and Community College. Subsamples of twenty females and twenty males from each college were drawn for the study of differences in self-disclosures associated with sex, aspects of self, college preference and selected "target" persons.

N-Achievement Motivation Of Male Navaho Indian Students As Measured By An Acculturated N-Achievement Scale, Rex C. Ivory May 1971

N-Achievement Motivation Of Male Navaho Indian Students As Measured By An Acculturated N-Achievement Scale, Rex C. Ivory

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The problem which formed the basis of this research was to answer the question: "Can an acculturated version of McClelland's original n-Achievement scale be significantly more effective in measuring n-Achievement motivation of male Navaho Indian subjects than McClelland's original n-Achievement scale?" An answer to this question would hopefully be reason enough for using an acculturated n-Achievement scale to provide new information relative to the Navaho Indian's need to achieve.

The major underlying objective of this study was to develop a more effective projective scale than McClelland in measuring a Navaho Indian's n-Achievement motivation. This objective was not reached; however, the …

A study of the personality characteristic as measured by the Minnesota Multiphasic personality Inventory (MMPI) was made of an experimental group of students brought before the Standards Committee at Utah State University for infractions against the school's code of conduct. It was then compared with personality characteristics of a control group representing the remaining student body.

The result was no significant difference between the two groups on any of the MMPI scales.

Role Of Goal Assessment In Evaluating The Counseling Relationship, Dennis R. Whitney Jan 1970

Role Of Goal Assessment In Evaluating The Counseling Relationship, Dennis R. Whitney

All Master's Theses

The primary function of diagnosis in counseling is to enable the counselor to make predictions about behavior from which he in turn constructs his plans for handling the case (Callis, 1965). The writer assumed that all counselors engage in the process of diagnosis whether they do it purposefully and systematically, or implicitly, perhaps with very little awareness. If all counselors engage in diagnosis, then the accuracy of the counselor's predictions, based upon his evaluation of the client's goals is an important determinant in the way he handles the case and presumably affects the outcome of the counseling process. It seems, …
