The research investigates the effect of leverage on the pricing of Credit Default Swaps (CDS) and focuses on key sectors of the economy: Technology, Financials, Consumer Staples and Industrials. CDS are financial instruments that were developed a few decades ago and have become more widely used in financial markets for hedging credit exposures. Given their prevalence in financial markets, it is important to understand how CDS spreads change when reference entities modify their capital structure.

Social behavior is exhibited based on a response to other individuals and involves the integration of external cues from surrounding organisms. A complete lack of interaction with others can profoundly affect social behavior in a variety of species. An example of the effect of social isolation can be seen in the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) when observing the social behavior of social space, which is the preferred distance between neighbours. Isolated flies have increased social space and settle further apart from one another compared to flies that are group-housed.

A comprehensive analysis of ground stone celts on the Late Woodland Middle Ontario Iroquoian Dorchester Village Site (AfHg-24). Metric and non-metric traits of the celts were analyzed to gain a better understanding of ground stone tools and their uses. A greater understanding of site formation processes and the development of Late Woodland Iroquoian villages may be attained through the creation of typologies, and an analysis of tool metrics, manufacturing and use wear traits, non-chert detritus produced through manufacture, and intra-site spatial data.

This project is primarily inspired by three papers: Colin Camerer and Xiaomin Li’s (2019 working paper)—Using Visual Salience in Empirical Game Theory, Ryan Oprea’s (2020)—What Makes a Rule Complex?, and Caplin et. al.’s (2011)—Search and Satisficing. Over the summer, I worked towards constructing a model of choice for the visual coordination game that can model player behavior more accurately than traditional game theoretic predictions. A distillation of tips from the state/provincial fire preparedness agencies will be presented. Recommendations for programming for public libraries to build bridges with fire educators are offered, along with ideas on how to display materials that might describe what important papers should be in go-bags, how to drive out of a wildfire, and how to have a game plan for home, work, daycare, kids, and critters. Provincial and state specific resources will be included in a pathfinder, along with a selection of titles of books, articles, and websites about fire awareness.

To help decrease library anxiety, students received by email a weekly newsletter of events and workshops happening in the library. Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales” is a collection of stories told from the perspective of various people on pilgrimage to Canterbury, England, in the late 14^th century. The tales vary in both content and style, in a way that reflects personality traits and background of the teller of the tale. This study explores whether syntactic structure, specifically word order, varies systematically for different characters. At the time, both English and French word order had recently shifted from verb-final to subject-verb-object. Verb-final order, though still grammatical, was much less common. There is a growing body of research that argues that gender not only bifurcates male and female leadership styles, but also discriminates against bodies of women and men. This paper presents accounts of body strategies by women leaders described as the self-surveillance mechanism offered by the paradigmic model of the Panopticon (Foucault, 1979). The study contributes to the literature of Foucault’s bio-power technology as a compelling explanation for women’s compliance and collusion to the patriarchal standards of femininity as leaders. Drawing on symbolic interaction theory, present study tests LMX and employee happiness at work with mediation of self-esteem and moderation of organizational embeddedness. Authors collected data from FMCG companies from Pakistan that comprised 124 employees. Findings suggest significant relationship between LMX and happiness at work. Follower self-esteem significantly mediated LMX and happiness at work, and organizational embeddedness moderated between LMX and happiness at work. Findings are instrumental for organizational practitioners. Organizational leaders should consider quality LMX interactions with their employees in prevailing global crises. It will improve relationship with team members and boost their self-esteem resulting in happiness at work. …

Small-scale, residential solar systems have been increasingly recognized as a key sector of future solar capacity growth and carbon emission reduction in cities. This study investigated customer preferences of solar thermal and photovoltaic (PV) systems to facilitate their broader residential penetration. A discrete choice experiment was designed and administered through Amazon Mechanical Turk targeting two testbeds: Boston, Massachusetts and Atlanta, Georgia. Six system features were investigated, including system type, ownership, upfront cost, annual savings, environmental benefits, and neighbor’s choices. Successful Women Majoring In Stem Have Higher Optimism And Lower Stigma Consciousness, Bridget Muise, Bettina Casad

Undergraduate Research Symposium

Women are underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education. We had 607 women majoring in STEM complete an online questionnaire reporting levels of coping, rejection sensitivity, stigma consciousness, and optimism and grade point average (GPA) was collected from school records. Results showed that higher rejection sensitivity predicts lower GPA even with higher coping skills. This indicates that even with good coping skills, higher fear of rejection for one's gender had a stronger effect on the academic performance of women in STEM. Additionally, higher optimism predicts higher GPA, but only for women with lower gender stigma consciousness. Optimism seems …

Using the lenses of structural, systems, cultural, and political theory-based metaphors, a team of academic library leaders made informed and strategic decisions targeted at improving specific aspects of their organization. This resulted in improvements to the culture and structure of the organization as well as a better understanding of the political and systems influences at play. The lenses will be presented visually through illustrative metaphors such as through eyeglasses with a jungle in focus and described as applicable for most library organizations.

The Sanders Site (45KT315) was excavated in the 1970s by Central Washington University. The site is located on the Yakima Army Training Center some 12 kilometers up Johnson Canyon from the Columbia River. The site was occupied from as early as 9,000 years ago; however, the heaviest occupations with features and activity areas date closer to 3000 years ago which are associated with Frenchman Springs Phase. We are interested in how food processing and animal use at this seasonal upland site compares to sites on the river that may have been occupied year-round during the Frenchman Springs Phase.

This presentation takes a look at the suicide rates among South Korean youth ages 15 to 19, comparing the numbers to those of the same age range in the United States. We will look at the raw numbers, go over similarities and differences, and end with contributing factors for both groups.
